No I mean that I don't trust American races to actually go through till it's that day and see them riding. Hope it goes through of couse, it's a good race (even tho it never deserved .Pro but I understand why they gave it).
In 2023 it ranked 25 /33 of the 1.Pro races in start list quality according PCS. I don't know what your bar is for "deserving" .Pro status.

This is a long perpetuated problem propagated by federation goons that post races as Pro, 1,2,3 with 99.9% of them have no professional licensed racer participants. Holding an amateur license as cat 1,2 doesn't make you a pro. And American racers, their family, friends, spectators and sponsors are sold a bill of goods that what they are seeing is a pro race event.
And soon Redlands and Gila will be held and federation will allow race to be advertised as whatever you want!!

A new race shouldn't just get .Pro status immediately. That's not "deserving". Also sure in 2023 it wasn't absolutely horrible, but in 2022 it was (startllst wise). It's get some bigger names cause it's teams doing it before the Canadian classics. It makes it look better than it is, cause in the end there just only a handful of WT teams at the start and not a lot of Pro Teams either.

Again, I get why they gave it .Pro status. Promoting cycling there and without easy points only teams with an American link would go there. But that doesn't make it deserving.

A pro race should get pro status. Full stop. If you are talking about UCI recognition different things.

Notice subtle differences in registration requirements.

And for years the Canadian Tire races also had designated pro race, those races faded because there were not enough available pro racers that wanted to contest races in Canada for sub prime prize list and promoters were not able to lure racers with substantial start money. **I don't know what provisions that Maryland Cycling Classic has available.. Airline cooperation ( doubtful) hotel, food, rental car affiliation ( always) but start money, don't know if or the amounts. Tour of California had cash to get riders like Sagan, Alaphilippe, and early Pogacar to travel and race ( stage race)in US.
Down a little, you see him rolling around on rim brakes!!!

Interested in the history here. What races were these? I know there was a circuit race (video) in my hometown in the late 80s/early 90s that had Canadian Tire as the title sponsor.

Should be 2.Pro.

In what world? No idea why you're saying it has a good field. It's not cause Pidcock is at the start that out of nowhere it has a good field. Only reason why it would get .Pro status is cause of money.

It's fine for sprinters cause Merlier and Groenewegen are there but GC wise it's pretty bad. Imagine UNO X getting like 250 points out of this. Don't get me wrong, for a .1 its a decent field (a bit above average, cause of the sprinters, but they don't get the points), but for a .Pro it would be really bad.

The question is how long it can remain a 2.1 race ? And they should move it back a weel like in the last two years. Anyway its up to the UCI to determine the rating of the race.

Lidl-Trek, EF Education-EasyPost and Jayco-AlUla were among the early entries of men's teams confirmed for the 2025 Maryland Cycling Classic, scheduled for a third edition on September 9 in Baltimore, Maryland.

A total of seven squads from an expected field of 16 have been locked in for the ProSeries race, with Team Medellin-EPM of Colombia, Canada’s Hustle Pro Cycling, US-based Project Echelon Racing and a composite group for Team USA joining the three WorldTour teams.

This is really great.. Is sort of sticky because there are lots of races in September.. I am hoping that UAE can allow Mexican and American riders to come to Maryland and race..they all can get a race and home visit and return in @7-10 days.. If calendar calls in Europe or Asia.. I hope that Maryland organizers know that it's expensive, but pro teams.. Don't like lender vehicles and host housing.. Have to do it right to attract WT squads.. Canadian and American teams are used to staying in peoples homes and using vans and F-150s..using garage and kitchen for massage!!!
