I think robbie still could do well in some of the bigger races. If he can win a stage or two, I wouldn't put good odds on it. Though it will be a sad day when he leaves the pro peleton, I have enjoyed watching him over the years and his win in Cantebury was one of my all time favourite moments of cycling. RM badly injured himself, the team had a hard chase back and then to sprint from a fair way back and make all the others sprinters look like amateurs by winning easily. Brilliant!

I hope RM hooks up with a team, cuz like you, it will be a sad day when he retires... and he is close to that point, but I agree he could still get some results. At least get some results good enough for some nice post-race sound bites.

I still think that McEwen could do pretty well as a long breakaway rider. He doesn't have the strength to do that on a hill stage. With a long flat stage, just get out in a front with a bunch of other guys, work together till the end then the only people Robbies is sprinting against are the other breakaway riders.

I'd rather see him join RS than retire under these sad circumstances. At least we'd get to see him in some good races and I think he can still figure in the action. RS might even bring a sprinter to the Tour since they won't have a contender to actually win the GC.

I love the title of this thread. We all feel like Radioshack iwll probably be over at the end of 2011. How is signing a guy who'll be 39 when the end of the season rolls around, who is the complete opposite type of rider from most of the rest of the roster and from the team's ethic, and who doesn't have the pace to compete with the absolute elite 90% of the time anymore, even notwithstanding that they have trains and he won't, going to secure their existence into 2012-13?

I am pretty sure after his vacation Alberto C. will be back with Bruyneel, they can't live without one another.

to see Robbie in an RS kit would be tragic

Totally agree. While I would love to see Robbie win a couple more races in his most exciting style, Radio Shack makes me wanna puke.

the more that I think about this, the more I think that RS isn't going after McEwen. There are 3 or 4 riders that went from RS to Pegasus. I'm thinking that RS wants them back, especially Impey, to fill the gap left by Steegmans.

There does seem to be to much history between McEwen and Armstrong.

To be honest, I think The Shack had little interest in keeping any of these riders.
Their "classics" squad of 2010 were there to do one job. Support Armstrong in the Ronde and after that, to pick up any scraps that came their way.
With no Armstrong in Belgium next season, the "classics" squad was surplus to requirements.
They will simply enter whoever is available to ride the required PT commitment.

I'm sure RS would consider Robbie on this basis, but knowing Bruyneel, he wouldn't be offering much in the way of a lucrative contract. Same goes for Impey.
The words blood and stone spring to mind.

As a big Robbie fan I'm glad he'll have the chance to race the races he wants

I sort of see RadioShack as just a means for Robbie to be able to get to races then work for himself which he is more than capable of doing.

Guess he wont' be riding for UniSA at the Tour Down Under then.

Also Hunter said in an interview when he signed for Pegasus that he 'wanted to be on the same team for the next 4 years' or something didn't he?

I'm glad Robbie will be part of the 2011 peloton, but I kind of wish he was riding for a real team. Oh well.

So late in the season, and being so old, I guess it was his only chance at being protour level. Can't really imagine radioshack being McEwen's biggest wish.

Well, next year they'll have a natural new sponsor in the AARP. Maybe Depends can come on board too? They will start making the most absorbent chamois in the world.

They should just call it Radio Seniors Team and be done with it. They can all communicate with RS Walkie Talkies...amplified.
