No need to go on and on about someone being suspended from a cycling message board, so I'll just say this and be done with it:
The rules to which you refer are obviously subjective.
blackcat doesn't "troll," "bait," or insult other members. He doesn't target anyone just for the sake of getting someone's goat; he's obviously a smart guy who isn't interested in stuff like that..
Yet he gets suspended for using terms others have to look up and subsequently find offensive--e.g. Onanism.
That just silly, and only serves to dumb down the message board.
well said, that;s my take, too.

Otoh, from what i understood, he was warned to not use a specific term (or abbreviation?) yet continued using it.
So that sounds like a straightforward ban. That's stubborn from BC.
As much as I hate to see BC get banned, one thing that has transpired in the past few months is that one shouldn't provoke the mods. It's the mods' way or the high way. It may not always be fair, but the choice is quite clear.

That said, six months is way too long. It may be justified (i don't know what happened behind the scenes), but in this case maybe the mods could take BC's fanbase (me included) into consideration as an alleviating circumstance :)

Not at all. Banning is the last thing we want to do, but if you can't post within the rules despite multiple warnings, then you'll very likely get banned.
I made that sound worse than it is. As much as I may find some decisions too harsh, you guys have been pretty consistent and transparent and straightforward in the past couple of months.
I do hope you'll consider reducing BC s ban. He's been a loyal regular here with a broad fan base, and Well, see Delgado post. BC never went around baiting people.

Let me get this straight - you think Blackcat should have a shorter ban because (s)he is a long term member with many fans? I'm not aware that the forum rules allow for that, and nor should they. I didn't see the offending posts but if (s)he broke the rules and continued to do so after warnings then the ban is valid and justified in my view.

Yes the ban is valid. The fairness of the length is up for debate I think, or at least up for differing opinions. Six months is just long. I don't know what should or shouldn't be a criterion in determining the length of a ban. If nobody feels offended by black cats posts, I guess that'd be an argument in favour of a shorter ban. But I've not much more to say on this. I don't really know the background of the ban.

So typical of Spud.. You didn't see the posts, so why get involved.

6 months is a long ban, imo, for what Blackcat done.

let he who has not sinned........how many bans you on Spud?????

You'd be surprised to know that for many, calling somoene else ''senile'', a ''w***ker'' and asking them if they're ''incontinent'' doesn't qualify as [acceptable] back and forth, regardless of the topic. Moreover, it's really only back and forth if the other person is in it too, tit-for-tat, right? Same terminology, same page, know't I mean? Apparently everything goes there, so I can't really blame you. Seems like a cultural thing.

Also, you talking about the admin who calls himself the ''rogue mod''? That one? K.

Xenophobia much?

And yeah, Alpe has been modding since the start. You made it, what, five minutes?

That would be the 'rogue mod' that exclaimed that he would no longer spend his free time perusing the fine pages of the CN Forums, yes...

Not that it matters to Alpe but you might consider dissing other mods behind closed doors.

How is telling the truth "dissing"?

Never mind, I don't need your approval.

Alpe wrote the words that I repeated, they're still posted in his comment.

As for Alpe moderating the politics threads, we all know that doesn't actually happen anymore. Those threads will be moderated by the current moderators with the caveat that we give lot's of leeway to political arguments. Of course if Alpe decides to help out that's his perogative. Nothing is expected to change, you guys in the politics threads should just carry on about your lives as normal.

Cheers

Hey man, at the current pace it'll wind up being you guys modding each other.

Good that you can take constructive criticism tho.

That's simply not true, although if that's the picture you want to paint then have at it.

If you have issues with moderation please take it up in the moderators thread.
