There's probably a thread about him somewhere else- but why has no mud ever stuck with old Denny? Rasmussen explicitly names him as a blood doper in interviews. Is there a secret to getting away with doping- head down, don't **** anyone off, ride conservatively? If so, Menchov's nailed it.

Your best bet is: don't speak English. Noone interviews you, the answers come from an interpreter, noone really cares about Johnny Foreigner.

Well it's been speculated that his mysterious retirement a few months after winning on Bola, was behind the scenes.

He's got a 10 on the uci 2010 passport thing, and barredo got perused for it so maybe Menchov got told he could leave quietly as well.

Also speculated that he was the former gt winner who tested positive that the secret pro mentioned. Didn't fit the criteria about a nee champion and it being a team one can be disappointed in though.

What do you mean. The reason Menchov never got taken down by a doping agency is because he didn't get asked questions in English language interviews and was quiet?

I think the question is about why hasnt he been taken down. I don't know, some riders like rogers just ride their luck I guess.

Denis Menchov was tested 42 times in 2009 according to Rabobank's official testing figures, so it probably had something to do with having something undetectable or doing a very good job on timing and planning, plus probably a slice of luck here and there. I mean, he defended the Maglia Rosa against di Luca for over a week (jersey holder gets tested every day in the GTs), and in that Giro you could have tested positive just from inhaling near to Killer.

Not necessarily blood tests though. Your Hct could be off the scale and you'd fly right through.

Well beating the drugs test kind of goes without saying though doesn't it? Afterall even though di Luca failed a drugs test, the 3rd placed rider in that race did not, yet we know he was doping, and same can be said for the 12th placed rider and to a slightly lesser extent lot of people from that year (e.g. the 2009 winner of yesterdays race)

No they are all cleans. Like Lance, 500 tests to prove it.

Haha, that's kind of true.

Between Makarov's role very high up in the UCI and Russia's NADO being as clear as mud he's safe.

His English Wikipedia page is pretty rich. He rode with Lienders as the doctor ALMOST delivering a TdF win to The Chicken. Never tested positive though! Maybe Hein had a soft spot for the Dutch?

Menchov came up through the ranks of Banesto's u23 squad and to the pro team. Never underestimate how slimy Unzue is.

Maybe his values didn't seem suspicious until Summer 09? Seems unlikely, but hard to think of a reason otherwise.
