With Kruijswijk being in the break, I thought to myself "It must be a while since he won": I didn't expect his most recent win to have been as long ago as August 2014 (nor that he only has 2 wins). And his last WT win was June 2011.

Seems extraordinary to still be racing at the same team level, having been a winner, for so long after a win. But is it a record?

Sort of outdoes Kelderman: on WT for longer, and has proved capable of a win.

Luis Ángel Maté went 12 years without a win while riding for second tier teams (Cofidis were WT in his last season with them) before he started winning in Guarda in the Volta a Portugal, but he never won anything above .1.

Random fact:

Soudal is the only organisation with a team in all four races* Sunday.

*Specifically those four races that are taking place in Northern France.

Boring sad fact, Soudal are the only Roubaix team sponsor who's product I have knowingly used today. (Infact all frigging day until now).
Not used my car or ridden my bike

Since Milano-Sanremo, Wout Van Aert now has 10 podiums in big one day-races (Monument, WCRR, OGRR) in a row without winning one. I probably already posted about this because he didn't get another podium since 2023, but he's now even more firmly in the lead.
- 27/09/2020: 2nd at WC
- 18/10/2020: 2nd at RVV
- 20/03/2021: 3rd at MSR
- 24/07/2021: 2nd at Olympics
- 17/04/2022: 2nd at Paris-Roubaix
- 24/04/2022: 3rd at LBL
- 18/03/2023: 3rd at MSR
- 09/04/2023: 3rd at PR
- 06/08/2023: 2nd at WC
- 21/03/2026: 3rd at MSR

In 2nd place we find Alejandro Valverde, Raymond Poulidor, Frans Verbeeck and Felice Gimondi who managed to get 8 podiums without winning one again.

If we look at top-10s instead of podiums then Van Aert is also getting up there.
1. Frans Verbeeck: 31
2. Raymond Poulidor: 26
3. Herman Van Springel: 21
4. Michael Boogerd: 19
5. Felice Gimondi: 18
5. George Hincapie: 18
5. Wout Van Aert: 18

Imanol Erviti 12 years in the WT after his last win. And 13 years after last WT win (which is not as long as Kruijswijk).

Valerio Agnoli raced for 14 years after his one and only win (at .Pro level), but 'only' the last 12 of those were in the WT.

I found those two by only looking at two teams, so it's probably not that uncommon for a rider with early win(s) to go on for a long time without ever doing it again.

5x2nd and 5x3rd, perfectly balanced, as all things should be

Marcel Sieberg took his second career win while at Wiesenhof in 2006 and then spent 15 years at the top level with a 4th place on a Vuelta stage as his highest placement in a major race (finishing 7th in the 2016 Paris-Roubaix was obviously his best individual result).

Koen de Kort won a l'Avenir stage when it was a U25 race in 2005, his maiden pro season, and then retired 16 years later (well almost 16 due to his freak accident).

Kittel having four stage wins in the Giro but none of them in Italy still bothers me

The best part was that when he won the fourth stage, he hadn't even ridden a Giro stage in Italy because he DNF'ed after stage 3 in 2014.

And he had never won in Italy at all but would sadly do that in Tirreno a few years later.

Someone will tell us when there was last a South American 1-2 in a Grand Tour, or whether we have ever had one before without either being Colombian.

Is that an order?
Or a prediction?

The only one I can think of is Quintana, Uran in the 2014 Giro, but they're both Colombian.

two non colombian latin americans did so in the giro last year

Yates is Latin American?
