Mikel Landa Discussion Thread

He is praying for Froome to collapse so that he can do his thing.

You could see it in his face today. He was wondering the whole time what would the consequences be of ditching the team and attacking himself instead of setting that boring pace.

Does he conserve Vinokourovs tlfn number? Might be a good time to go bountyhunting for Astaná, as this is his last race with Sky.

It would be legendary, although it may require extra caution to avoid a medical sabotage by team doctors.

Might get more freedom now to do his own thing, send him up the road as a wildcard and put pressure on Astana. In reality though I can't see either Brailsford or Froome allowing that to happen but I'm just after backing him at 100/1 just in case.

Does anyone know what Portal was saying to him ??
Does anyone have a video link of what happened?
It looked like he was being given an earful for not waiting for Froome. When Nieve was interviewed, he said the team did their job but Froome couldn't do his or words to that effect. He was speaking to Landa when they were warming down, after Portal had a go. Didn't look like a happy team ...

There's something almost tragic about the way in which many posters have been reduced to projecting hopes for excitement onto a Sky domestique who is 3 minutes down.

If there's going to be actual fun, it will be from Aru, Bardet, Martin, Uran. Not from someone who is paid a lot of money to clean Froome's shoes.

Landa always was a cool cat, i was sad when he left Astana, but have always remained a fan of him. Hope he blows the race up just for the sake of it, he really does not fit in with Sky and their style of riding.

I agree with you. When I talked to Landa when it was still not official he will be at SKY, he told me ha wanted to improve in ITT, and of course he has got it becouse he is righ now runner-up ITT of Spain. He got a good contract in SKY and the leadership for the Giro.

But When Landa is inspired, and he is in good shape now, he is not a rider to be in a train. He will do, but he need his moment of personal motivation. I know that objetive is top ten hoping he has not to work a lot, but when a stage is so close...

Froome did something similar to this in Verbier, so I thnk Froome is not going to say anything to Landa, but Portal did.

In such king of step climbs, I think the help of Landa could have been a second less for Froome, no more.

Landa was 100% correct strategy-wise; you gain no drafting advantage in the last 200m on a 15-20% ramp and Landa has a chance to reduce bonus seconds from Froome's main rivals.

Yes, you are righ, but the problem is that in KSy is always with the leader...I dont like that way to race.

Well Froome had the maillot jaune and a comfortable lead on Landa. It's pretty logical the latter works for the former.

He did until the final 500 meters. Probably thought his job was done.

Say what you want but no one can deny that Landa is not only a charismatic, talentful and stylish climber but more importantly, AN AGENT OF CHAOS in each GT where he is in form.

Another Sky superdomestique? Bah, he is a different kind of animal.

And, he wasn't 100% correct strategy-wise today.

If he wasn't going to wait for slow Froome once he cracked in the last km, he should've won the stage without those crucial moments of doubt.
Less bonif for Aru, Bardet.

Within reasonable expectation. You don't "just" take the bonus from these guys under those circumstances.
If Sky give him any trouble for what he did today they are ungrateful and unprofessional, because having him up there on GC still could be worth gold from now on.
Not only if Froome cracks, but they can also use him offensively to pressure if CF is within distance and behind in the Alps.

He tried but was not successful. Oh well.

After losing a good chunk of meters evaluating what was happening with Froome. Not saying he would've won but yes :D
