Very unfortunate for Landa. Hope he recovers fast. Is there still a chance that he can heals at time for the Vuelta? ( I dont have knowledge about vertabrae fracture)

No.

He needs 2 to 3 weeks of total rest. The Vuelta starts in exactly 3 weeks so that's out of the question. The Worlds are probably gone too.

From the sounds of it, Movistar has already ruled him out of la Vuelta. Also the Spanish national coach basically won't take anyone to the Worlds who doesn't race la Vuelta so it's highly unlikely he gets on the Worlds team.

As a result of my accident. Lmao, haha. Completely agree, Toby.

When looking at the replies to the tweet, it looks like a friend of the forum who has abandoned us at 19,999 posts agrees with us too.
And everybody just flames him. I dont understand it, the apology is so whack.

Well, it's balancing on the edge of rudeness to confront King like that. On the other hand, King's blatantly lying, or omitting important details at least, so perhaps it's fitting to ask him to own up to his mistake.

I certainly had the exact same thought when I first read King's tweet.

I had a similar thought as well when first reading that tweet. I just decided it was best to not respond.

He also crashed at the Giro last year, which was ofcourse Kelderman that caused it. I'm just saying, he seems to have the uncanny ability to steer right into danger.
Fixed for you. :D

King is making the AVOIDABLE mistake of tweeting to the general public - Any message should be to the riders using whats app or similar - Making any public comment only exposes you to the morons in society - After all riders make mistakes in each and every race.

Yeah, rarely does such a stupkd mistake cost so much injury on so good riders.

There's a reason we're not singling out people after each and every race.

According to Movistar's statement today, Landa has not been ruled out of the Vuelta and they still seem to believe he will be ready to start. They said he was released today and that he's allowed to be on the trainer.

He'll go for further examination tomorrow to see if there is any additional dammage that has been covered by the inflammation. He's still wearing a lumbar brace to keep the area fixed.

Yes and hopefully no additional damage. However, I do think it's a good sign he was released today even with needing to go back for more testing tomorrow.

Apparently tests run on Landa today did discover that he also has a broken rib. However, the broken rib does not effect or change anything with his rehab.

Guess he probably attempts the Vuelta a Espana after all. Rides himself into decent shape and wins the Pyrenees stage on the penultimate day. Maybe with the polka dot jersey along the way! Lagos de Covadonga might come too early in the race.

I'm sure if he can get to the start line of the Vuelta he'll be there regardless of what kind of shape he's in. He wants the invite to the Spanish national team for the Worlds and basically if you don't race la Vuelta you don't go to the Worlds. I think you're right that he could race himself into good shape by the 3rd week and go stage hunting at that point and get a stage win somewhere in week 3.

Update on Landa's injuries. Movistar just announced that they've pulled him from the Tour of Britain. They said that his injuries are healing, but that they aren't healed enough yet for them to be comfortable putting him in a race.

Javier Mínguez, the coach, says that to go to the World Cup you have to participate in the Vuelta a España.
- Yeah, but he's made exceptions.
- Have you talked to Mínguez?
- Yes, we talked when I saw that I could not go to the Vuelta. He was worried about my condition because of the distance from the World Cup, which is a long distance race. But he did not close the doors for me.

Meaning ? Is he supposed to go to the WC as a domestique to Bala ?

If he goes it's as a domestique to Bala, which Landa has known from the beginning anyway. Anyone going this year knows that.

He is so unlucky. I was really hoping to see him ride in Vuelta a Andalucía. Hopefully he could get in shape for Tirreno Adriatico.

I think T-A is likely his target for his return race. Yeah, he's definitely unlucky.

Bummed out about this.

Hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later. At least he will have plenty of time to get ready for Giro and Tour.

too many crashes within a year. How does only he get into these situation whereas none of the team does? Why is the team not protecting their main asset by putting bodies around him? Can they not train his technical skills to avoid crashes?

Mallorca Valverde would be their lead rider.

An operation was planned within 48 hours after his return to Álava today, but the Movistar team has just announced that there will be no surgery. After a new examination at the Vitoria-Gasteiz hospital this time, and a shoulder scan, Dr. Mikel Sánchez favored a cellular treatment to reduce the fracture rather than an operation. It would seem that the fracture is less serious than previously thought.

Thanks for the update. That is at least a little good news.
