Hang in there champ, this Giro edition already lost a bit of a soul.
Yes, most likely spinous process, a not an uncommon break of back. I broke T10 years ago. A little painful but healed no problemIf it is only a vertebra (and not needing a surgery), he can comeback this year. Better than what I expected after what I saw in the stage. Go go Landa!
Absolutely devastating injury for pro bike racer..will need weeks of wait and see with complete withdrawal from core or cycling exercises. Specialists will okay some gradual expansion, no doctor will say no problem, no way. Because of extraordinary pro athlete fitness, better off than 99.99% of the population, but will get weeks of cautious observation if break is visible, no doctor will push cord damage. Dude get stem cells!!!Yes, most likely spinous process, a not an uncommon break of back. I broke T10 years ago. A little painful but healed no problem
Here you goAccording to Lefevre's latest column in Het Nieuwsblad it's 4 weeks no cycling. For the TDF that looks difficult (but maybe not impossible). Great article btw. He is a fan of Landa and says he has a positive influence on the whole team. Unfortunately the article is behind the pay wall: https://m.nieuwsblad.be/cnt/dmf20250509_97646237
He's gonna go crazy staying stable. It sounds like there was no displacement in the limited story so no nerve damage. How long before you were able to recreate after your injury?Yes, most likely spinous process, a not an uncommon break of back. I broke T10 years ago. A little painful but healed no problem
It was reported that in the hours after the crash he said he was done with cycling for good and would retire. It's good that he's feeling much better now. I don't wish for much if he does do the vuelta.
Looking at this Giro, if he was in TDF’24 shape he might have won it
And as you say, as the Giro has turned out, him crashing out is even more of a bummer now. What a horrible start to the race. Possibly final slight chance of mythical Landa GT win ruined. Hope his injuries aren't really bad.
I think all the riders in top10 have crashed, some were just a bit more lucky that they didn't sustain serious injuries. And for the time trials, he's around Simon Yates and Carapaz's levels, so who knows. He's certainly more regular than them.I think he would have lost too much time in the time trials, and it's also difficult for me too see him having avoided all of the other crashes that have happened n the race, but it's obviously still a shame we'll never know.
He won’t ride TDFHe said he will be at the Vuelta. Is the TDF out of question for now?
