Dozens of them
Damn, and all of them have this ridiculous rule. What is the personal opinion of the moderators here? I would think the sheriffs in town can decide if they want to communicate their reasoning. I don’t think bans, warnings, etc. Should be open to discussion, but I feel it should be out in the open on why.

Aaah, it's purely business to them. Guess that explains why they don't care about our community.
First; thank you to everyone who makes this forum be what it is. Both admins and owners and users. I cherish this place so damn much! <3

To me the biggest problem is that someone can disappear in the middle of a private conversation and I won't even have a clue if the disappearing person disappeared on free will or not. If not maybe I would try to look them up on other sites, but if they themselves wanted to ghost the forum I'd rather not stalk them.

'm a bit shocked at the sheer size of Future honestly. Thank you for linking them @Armchair Cyclist as it sure gives perspective.

I hope nothing I sayid is provoking as it's not my intention.

The road ahead is long.

I know this post is probably gonna be deleted, but I'll try anyway.

Do the Admins sometimes go in an perform moderating tasks when AC gets too busy? Because, if they do that's part of the problem.
Then we have people who are not part of the forum trying to moderate the forum.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier.

Some people have sought recourse to the admins, and in a very small number of cases the admins had asked me to refer issues involving posters here upwards, otherwise, not as far as I have ever been aware.

We are now three mods, so such intervention from above should be even rarer than it was.

Wow, quite a few prominent users banned recently.
Teddy must start losing or Red must become his fan, there's no other way to achieve peace.
Can't speak for anyone else, but the ban I served this weekend was justified. So as much as I've been critical of moderation policy in the past, I would consider the possibility that the little cluster of higher-profile bans this past week or so has occurred due to random chance.

MODERATORS' STATEMENT

Joint message from both Moderators:

The Tour is coming up, and that seems a good time to lay down some reminders of what is expected here so that everyone can enjoy the forum as part of their way of following it. The large majority of users cause no problem, and even those whose enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of them only rarely cause issues: that is why this is a good forum and why we come here. Informed, animated and responsible chat about cycling is not easy to find on the internet: this place should deliver that.

But that can be spoiled, and we do not want that to happen during the biggest event of the year. A repeat of the state of a couple of threads on the last weekend of the Dauphiné will not be tolerated.

In essence, just remember that no-one reads this forum to know the opinions of members about each other: there is simply no need to say anything judgemental, demeaning or insulting to or about anyone else here. We can and will have different opinions, long may it remain so, but points can be debated, evidenced, challenged or queried without breaking the key rule here: Civility is compulsory.

Equally, trolling will not be allowed
. Our working definition is "Deliberately attempting to agitate other users." It is not about whether the person it is directed at is being thin skinned: it is our interpretation as moderators of the intent of the poster. In that light, crass insults about a rider, which must be assumed to be done in the knowledge that it may agitate his supporters, will be considered trolling. If you believe another member is trolling, please do not engage: report the behaviour.

We are sure that nobody wants to find themselves on a ban from the forum during the Tour (or at any other time): we do not want to have to issue warnings that may or may not (depending on your warnings history and the level of the offence) trigger a ban. But if maintaining civil conversation here requires that, it will happen. Those who have had previous warnings can expect longer suspensions for repeated breaking of these rules: this has been in the instructions for moderators for a long time, but not always applied. If you haven't looked at them recently, it might be an idea to remind yourselves of the forum rules.

Some of us will be delighted at results in the Tour, others will be disappointed. Share your feelings, but without gloating or victimising others: assume we are all fans of the sport, with something valuable that unites us, above and beyond any partisanship.

And whether or not the race goes the way you might wish, we hope that following it here will be enjoyable.

Best time of the year. Understandably the stakes are at their highest and the best of the best are meeting for an event they are all aiming to peak for (and that’s just us keyboard warriors 😁).

Passions can run over with frustrations about events being responded to in real time and occasionally banter can start to cross the line.

May I please make a plea that the moderation be of a light touch acting only on reports and allow conversations to flow as much as possible.

I think I speak for both moderators when I say that sensible conversation and meaningful debate happen better when people pause and think. Emotions will guide what we say: they shouldn't dictate it. The alternative is what was seen on the Saturday of the Dauphiné, and that did not reflect well on many people.
