Can I please get a reasoned decision on why my thread "Toilet paper orientation and race preference" was closed?

Susan already gave a vague explanation: "Sorry, but we really don't need this thread".

I think we can all calmly agree that we do not necessarily need the "cat thread", "dog thread", "Bike advertisements and women thread", "The Mullet Thread", "Coffee Bean Recommendations thread", "Break out the fat bikes thread", "Who? LOves Their Dog as Much as Their Bike/Cycling thread" and last but not least the "Amazing staircases thread".

I could go on for ages, but one gets the point. I did not put 10 minutes in compiling the toilet paper poll just to have someone decide that my thread is less needed than a thread about stairs. Many people actually care about toilet paper orientation and I think it is up to the forum to decide whether or not we need this thread.

If the thread is not needed, it will silently slip away into oblivion like the vastly underrated "Urinating in the Shower thread", which we obviously needed more than this one.

I believe it's a little unfair to close a thread based on a random criterion like relative necessity.

I am a bit stunned the thread has been closed. I would expect the thread to have a brief spurt of activity before drifting off of the front page of the cafe never to be seen again.
None of the discussion in the thread seemed to be against the rules unless posts had to be deleted which I did not see.
I hope the decision will be explained in a bit more detail.

Perhaps we didn't really need the thread, although 10 people did vote in the less than 2 hours that it was open. So somebody(s) thought they needed it.
The real question is do we need a mom to tell us what we may or may not need?

Whether you think you need her or not, you have her.

Ah, so you read everything here but simply choose to ignore it until you see the opportunity to make a witty remark. Nice.

What about my thread?

The lid needed to be closed, and you should appreciate that someone flushed it for you. You may think that a toilet paper discussion is all the same on the hole.
But someone could have used that thread to dump on others or used it to take the p!ss.

That thread was considered inappropriate (and not just by me).

This is crazy talk. If you were to read this in 5 years time you'd probably slap yourself. I don't know you that well, so I write probably.

I recently went bowling and a friend of mine could not play because she had hurt her foot falling down the stairs. Please close the stairs thread, it's offensive, my friend agrees.

I own a cat, the dog thread is thus rendered inappropriate and scary, please close it (cat backs me up).

Peeing in the shower is normal but my mom and the lady at the pool think it's inappropriate --> please close.

Alberto Contador's surname starts with "Cont", which is pronounced exactly like the belgian word for a$$: "kont". Please close all ****ador related threads because they are very inappropriate.

Holy mother of god, about 500 woman have already stated that the babes on bikes thread is inappropriate? Sadly has to go.

A very weird spam thread was posted today: New cinema videos. Inappropriate? No. Please do not close or remove.

People are talking about metal in the what music are you listening to now thread, a style of music considered very inappropriate by some. Bye bye.

While we are at it, please close all threads involving horses cause they have been polluting my lasagna for years now. I find them very inappropriate and so do the news people.

And just to get back at you for closing my thread without a decent explanation: your cat is ugly.

For what it is worth, I rarely get as far as putting the roll on the holder, I'm more of a floor beside the toilet kind of guy/girl (when you have a separate lavatory, reaching for the back of the door is to be honest, a drag), and frankly, the fact "floor" or "on top of the cistern" wasn't an option is enough for me to justify the moderating teams decision. Either that, or they should re-open it with the extra options added.

Slow down there Boomcie, that thread has made CN what it is today, no sense in closing it now. But do agree or is it counter agree to close the cat thread, the other name people call cats is more offensive to women, I've heard :D

Wait, I thought it came in a package because they were meant to be kept there, you take them out and place them on the floor? Humm... options.

To the New mods:

I hope you are seeing/reading why it only takes one to ruin the whole lot. Without true application of the rules as listed means you end up with that mark on you as well, ruining the good work you are doing or have planed. We all read about the Cycling Black List of ex-doped riders, well apply that to the forum.

Mods; close down threads that are breaking the rules, not ones that might. We aren't children, and even if we were, that thread would still be okay. Over and classics.

In what way is a thread about whether you prefer toilet paper going over or under inappropriate?

We know we do. The real question is neither whether we think we need it or not nor whether we have her or not, but do we need her? The answer is of course no, we can discuss such things without being patronised like this.

It was inappropriate because I found out that I like to tend to my backside in the same manner as ACF94. I don't come to this cycling forum to learn of such atrocities. This is an over and classic case of moderation where none is needed. And it made an ass wipe out of the poor moderator who contributed to the harmless thread before it was closed.

Boomcie - nice to know you brother, but you crossed the line when you insulted the kitty. Your days are numbered!

Yet another tread that was bringing another way for forum members to find a common trait, killed. Then the mod that wanted to join in, poor mod, outed by his supposed close knit group who always discuss such actions as a group, must feel like they left out to hang. You (the mod) can always rejoin us in the regular members group if they really don't include you in their super communicative group.

And here we have a mod flouting a genuine rule (not circumventing language filters) while a thread is locked with no obvious rule violations. Which rule does the thread violate?

Don't worry. If you report my post I'll immediately edit out the naughty part/delete the post ;)
