I follow Susan's legacy.

She never understood why some take this forum so seriously and get so wound up.

Sometimes humour as the best defense against angry posters.

Lost in translation I'm sure sometimes but worthy all the same.

The thing is here ... its not the mods that are making this forum unreadable. Its you guys.

The mods - good, bad or indifferent - are actually TRYING. Which is more than anyone can say about many of you. Whether or not you agree with them, whatever standard of moderating they are at ... they are each putting in a good deal of time and effort into the forum. Most of the members here on the other hand, cannot even be bothered to refrain from hitting post ... or from bothering to review their own posting history to see if perhaps ... just maybe ... they are contributing to the crap-fest.

If you want to make the forum better - its up to each and every one of you. No one is going to be able to do it for you.

that means
- bite your tongue (well, at least dont hit post) at times
- make your point ONCE. you dont have to bash people over the head with your opinions
- other people are entitled to an opinion. even if its wrong.
- actually read what people are writing, and the intent behind it rather than nitpicking at semantics. especially whent he pitpicking lasts 10 pages :(

With each post stop to ask yourself
1 - does this contribute to the conversation?
2 - is it polite and friendly?
3 - (the gold standard) would Francois the Postman post or approve of this?

if the answer is no to any of those - then dont post it.

Filling the forum with trolling, baiting, inflammatory and argumentative rubbish, insults and ridicule is why we get the forum we have. You cant blame the mods for that.

You cannot blame the mods for what you post.

So if I wrote in response to your post: "get back in the kitchen!" That would totally violate all three of your standards + basic human decency, right?

Lighten up Frances, you are taking things way too super cereal.

Cool, so why do we need mods then?

Taking things overly seriously? In the face of many posters repeatedly making the same or similar complaints?

I'm sorry, I can't agree. I'm closing this thread for 48 hours as of now. Let's all take some time to think. It may be that I close this thread entirely, and all complaints about mods will be done in private - and only in private. I don't find it hard to locate other forums that use that technique. On those forums, complaining about a mod's actions in public is a banning offense.

A lot of y'all are wasting my time in this thread. If you don't see that I am working my **** off to make things better and be responsive, then you aren't looking very hard - even if a lot of the work has been behind the scenes. I'm getting VERY bored with wasting my time. I NEED actions and communications to be more productive.

Thank you Aussie Goddess, for the reasonable and rational view point. I, for one, applaud. Thank you, Hitch, for providing a little historical info and viewpoint. Thank you chewie, for refraining here, and offering support - I could go on. I could offer thanks to Bison for some good posts in the last two pages - but I'll do that in the mods "room" - where that is appropriate.

Now, the thread is closed for 48 hours. Thank you for your input.

New Forum rules you will have noticed.

Please, please some respect and understanding as we all try and get used to these and set the tone for what I'm sure will be a better community. We, the mods, will try our best to do our part as well.

In future, if you have any complaints or issues that you don't think are being addressed email me. What we dont want to see is constant round-circle arguments.

Send all constructive feedback on the rules this way too.

Thanks, Dan

thanks!

BIG thanks! to ALL moderators...........I greatly appreciate your efforts

I notice that a number of moderators have chosen to return to being regular

members............can we expect some new mods?

may I nominate laflo and zam

What took you mods so long to figure out that this thread needed to be re-opened?! Just joking here. I know how most of you felt about this. :)

Only two months, during which time the mods gained a deserved reputation for lack of transparency. Brilliant. I expect the need to coalesce sub forums will take about six months, by which time it won't matter anyway.

It does give me the chance to ask why my post today was deleted.

EDIT:
Although I am ordinarily disinclined to edit posts in this thread, especially as I also participate in it, I have edited this post slightly in the interests of maintaining some decorum and keeping this thread open for at least a day....after the effort expended in getting it reopened in the first place

cheers

I'm pretty sure our "deserved reputation" was being discussed here way before this thread was closed.

PS: no idea what post are you talking about. Wait for another mod.

Did you read the white part? ;)

There is one to blame, but not the mods...

yes, before the next season we'll definitely have a few new mods.

So besides ChrisE and Dr. Mas (duh, to state the obvious) who might we expect?

Or maybe Benson will bring Lance on board?
