What if I told you thehog is not banned? Don't have to bring him back.

Really? That is the only part of that post you choose to respond to?

And another brilliant bit of moderation. A week after a post of Froome with a horrific sunburn is posted, proving that Sky's attention to detail has once again proved to be a con job, Eshnar decides to delete it and everything else connected to it. Good job at trying to close down all discussion.

The forum is on its last legs and the mods are doing their best to knock the remaining ones out from under us.

Bring back thehog.
Banning thehog is one of the best things that could happen to this forum. What makes you think it's on its last legs though, for a cycling forum in January there is quite a lot of activity imo.

It was the only part that needed a response. Whatever I say about this whole "omg-the-forum-is-dying" stuff won't change a thing. Already tried and failed.

The rules are pretty clear on that, and for good reason. That stuff shouldnt be acceptable.

BroDeal has been reading this place it's last rites forever. If it comes true then he's vindicated. Reports of this places death to this point have been...well...

Have to agree with Bro on one point though. Seemed removing the wrestles and associated nonsense was a good move, but the sunburn stuff? Rather a bit much.

Not the end of the world, but probably not the right call IMO.

M'kay, there was a third part, about deleting stuff that didn't need deleting. Kinda what you guys live for.

Is it much worse than posting stuff that didn't need posting? You know kinda what you guys live for.

So, you decide that? Oh that's right you're not a mod anymore. So the mod's job is to decide whether or not something "needs" to be posted? Because we really don't "need" any of this crap, the world would keep on turning if CN forum didn't exist. Actually I'm pretty sure it would be OK if CN didn't exist.

Good god, the last page of this is crazy. So to recap, we have:

- a (former?) mod making an impassioned argument as to why we should blame people for thinking their 'private messages' should remain private;

- a current mod responding to accusations of making a homophobic joke with some other kind of vague innuendo insinuating his targets were gay, then disappearing when it is pointed out exactly why his joke was totally homophobic and therefore against forum rules;

- a current mod respond to an accusation of unnecessarily deleting material by responding to the two parts of the post that were obviously not relevant, in two separate posts, without addressing the part that was the point.

I don't envy the moderation role and never would want to do it myself, but I really have to expect moderators to have a higher level of self-analysis, or at least the communication skills to articulate their points/respond to criticisms, more than this. You don't have to capitulate to whatever demands people are making because that will just drive you crazy, but I think it is reasonable to expect that the multitude of forum users will have their opinions taken into consideration and not just summarily and defensively dismissed.

This has to be a joke. What was homophobic on that post? I bet homosexuals had a laugh over it, others simply didn't care! Quit the crying.

Nowdays we live in a society with people obsessed with the most petty of things, for instance, constantly accusing others of being homophobic, racists, etc... I mean, what the actual ####.

There are a lot of politically correct people who live in fear someone might misinterpret what they say as prejudiced so they need to denounce anything that remotely touches a sensitive subject to prove their bona fides of being a politically correct person. When someone mockingly says, "gay", " about a picture of two oiled up dudes wrestling in a child's inflatable swimming pool, most rational people would not think anything of it. But the aforementioned type sees it as an opportunity to show everyone how righteous he is, and if he can use it as an attack on people discussing a subject he does not want discussed then that is an added benefit.

I want to congratulate the mods on another fine piece of moderating. For once some spirited debate breaks out, with people who are normally aligned taking different sides, and the mods decide they would rather have no discussion. Fine fine work.

Ok? Nope, I didn't say it was ok. It is typically rude to do so. Intentionally distort? Nor did I say that - that could get a person into legal trouble, I suppose, in an extreme case - but we've got some lawyerly types hanging out around here - ask them.

But, correct, posting contents of a PM is not against the rules. Nor is it against the law in the regular world, au contraire - I've said it before - and it seems to need to be repeated - once you have sent the message, and the receiver has opened it - it is no longer your property. It belongs then to them. Best to know who you are trusting with stuff. Because there is nothing but their manners to prevent them from putting your message up in 14 foot tall letters on a billboard.

Hold on now, lets not rush to judgement - the rapid response unit is on scene and I think it only prudent to wait and see what has happened.

Obviously as the thread is closed for 24 hours it is catastrophic.
This is more than mentioning Sheryl Crow, this is serious - I fear someone may have written something bad about Betsy, or worse LeMond.

This is a crazy idea I know, but- if OT stuff gets in to a thread, maybe move it to the appropriate thread.
Maybe the software that could do that hasn't been invented yet.
