You gotta love this:

Hey - it's my day off but I keep getting emails about this thread so I'm shutting it down. I don't have time to read through it and deal with your foolishness.

Thread closed.

Translation: I don't have a freaking clue what is going on and I certainly don't want to spend the time to find a good soultion, so I will close this thread to stop getting e-mails.

Maybe if people don't have time to properly deal with crap then they should not be in the e-mail loop in the first place. Just sayin'.

And you would be utterly wrong.

The person that wrote that post is not an active moderator. The prompt to take that action came from a sudden barrage of reported posts that we all received regarding that thread. As BroDeal fails to note in his comments, I had been cleaning up the thread at the time and actually reopened it within roughly 2 minutes of the thread being locked.

It was a bit of a hasty reaction though.

yep - hence the equally hasty reversal. Note though that it was only a reversable lock that was applied. Nobody tried to physically kill the thread - so whilst it was a slight inconvenience, the thread remains unaffected now.

on with the regular scheduled programming!

Pro Cyclists and Smoking thread

OK...I give up. Why was the Pro Cyclists and Smoking thread closed?

"Enough with this stupidity"

...seemed to be the reasoning. Was there a line crossed somewhere? Because I'm pretty sure I haven't had such a statement directed at me (us, I suppose) in over 35 years. It was comedic, spontaneous and seemingly innocent. Did I miss something? I can't imagine that this punchy type of humor would've lasted much longer anyway. Rapid fire posts of this nature tend to burn themselves out. But so what if they didn't?

Of course the whole thing was ridiculous but that's what made it so entertaining. It was, perhaps,"stupid' humor but were we just called stupid? The abrupt ending felt more than a bit heavy-handed and overly parental. So why the closing?

Just curious.

I would have to go back through histories to find out exactly why but I believe a high level decision was taken that clubs about specific members (banned or otherwise) should not be allowed on the site.

Was it too hard to PM me and say, "Hey, dude, we have decided to delete your group"? Or, "How about you change the name and group description?"

I didn't do it, so I don't know why you weren't contacted.
You would have also needed to delete at least 70% of all messages inside the group too don't forget...

Eh, when I saw it was gone I though BroDeal must have randomly cancelled it.

That is what I thought too, when I saw it was gone. Now I say F*** the Man.

Actually I attempted to do so, yet did not know who was in the group, so I pm'ed RR with the question who he knew was part of the group, he did not know neither. However the group was deleted by Daniel so there was no way for me to see who was part of it. The problem was that we were talking about it in the moderating forum about how to do it and that we wanted to do it and Daniel just came in and did it, this meant that we could not send something to everyone in the group and RR was the only one I knew for sure that was part of the group.

However the reason it was deleted was because we want to delete any mention of BPC so that he has no reason what so ever to come back, just so we ignore him completely, immediately ban him when he does come back and immediately delete his new postings. This is part of the new approach to him, and we'll see whether this works. But of late we have not had any problems with BPC, so perhaps it is working, or perhaps he is just taking some time off. So if it is any inconveniece, I apologize in name of the entire moderating group, it could have been handled better, yet I do hope that our reasoning is understandable.

As much as we have fun pointing out what a weirdo BPC is ultimately the best thing to do is ignore him, pretend he does not exist. I can understand why this would include taking down the club

The group page lists everyone who is a member. Under the title it says who maintains the group. Several mods were members and joined when I announced the group's creation. Something doesn't smell right.

I know this, but before we knew that the group would be deleted Daniel already did so, which also meant that the group page list was also deleted, so I could not see who were members after he deleted it. Look you don't have to believe me, and I no longer have the pm I sent RR to get to know who he knew were members, so I got no proof. We as mods discussed the closing of the group due to the new approach to BPC, but before we could take the necessary measures that comes with closing such a thing, such as sending pm's, Daniel had already done so.

I remember you sending a PM, I just can't remember what it said. It is likely BPC was flooding my inbox at the same time.

Ultimately if our goal is to limit the guys participation in the site it may be best to pretend he does not exist.

There's no underlying agenda.

I was one of those mods that joined when you set it up as at the time I thought it was a hilarious idea. Later, I thought it was a bad idea as it was me that started to delete all of BPCs posts and created the policy of deleting him. I thought it a bad idea to have such a shrine to him. I stayed a member though so that I could act as moderator if necessary but hardly looked in there.

I was only partially involved in the decision to kill the group but I did agree with the idea that it should not exist. As Barrus has reminded me, I think we had intended to post something in there to say it was going but it had been deleted before I got in there to write it.

A comment to the mods about their replies to TShame in his lame 'I believe Lance' thread. I thought his critique of the mod(s) was off-base but was not really a harsh or personal attack. Didn't in my opinion deserve the attention it got from other mods. I don't like seeing our volunteers take a kicking, but on the other hand you have to have some thickness to your skin when you assume a public position. The guy was obviously trolling and submitting his agenda and I thought the forum members were handling it well without any need to discuss banning the guy. It would have been better to keep the thread open - not only because it made TShame look ridiculous but because how else would I have learned that Superman is real?
