I can't believe he was banned again.
The popcorn gifs a couple of pages back are funny though ;)
The question is this...has he ever let anyone have the last word?!

Why was Dr. M banned? No reason is provided in the ban log. I hope it wasn't for being accurate in pointing out Berzin is useless.

He should have started a "Berlin is useless thread". Then he would have been accurate and on topic

I think quite a lot of people would disagree with that statement up there! :p

And I prefer to keep it that way.
Which I do best by not taking too much part in any potentially problematic discussion.

As some of you in the 'Religion' thread might have noticed: Sometimes I just leave...

Hi Berzin,
I see you are online.

I noticed again that you are back deleting my posts for no good reason. I assume you are baiting so I will put a stop to it now.

You are not, under any circumstances (including this post), to mod any of my posts ever again. Do what you do best - sit on your hands.
You are not to edit, modify, snip or delete any of my posts in any way- if you have a problem with that - then you, not I, run along and take it up with Dan and bring him in here.

And if you attempt another stunt like you did last week with me, or anyone else - I will go straight to Dan, with all the screen grabs and other information about what you do, (and what you don't do) - and I will make sure you are Netserked.

(And if any other mod interferes with this post they will suffer the same fate)

Had a great time reading about this.
What a load of totally hubristic blabber.

A perma ban, for going off topic in the OPQS thread?
Funny, I could have sworn half a dozen posters already beat him to it.
Still, everybody will now be vortexing in the same direction.

Back to watching the racing.

That's about the height of it. Still, on a small ship, it's best to keep the rats peaceful.

I think it's more the threats to the mods. No one is above the game here.

Imagine if we all wrote posts like that to mods? And Dan's got much better things to do than sort out squabbles on the forum. He has a day job.

You just have to suck it up as the mods job is to keep harmony for the benefit of all, not one or two.

Sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not. Life.

Threats? "I'll raise the issue with your superior", while technically a threat, is also goddamned standard procedure when anybody anywhere has a problem with a staff member of any organization or company.

Unless there's something we don't know, this permaban is quite ridiculous.

Not so much the threats; more the assertion by our erstwhile Forumite that their postings were not to be modded. As Sir Humphrey would have said: "It's the thin end of the wedge!"

Sure. But then go do it and follow the appropriate procedure.

Why undermine the mods on the forum? They volunteer their time, have normal day jobs and can't be here 24 x 7.

If this was standard procedure in any company you wouldn't send out a group email on your manager. You'd follow the procedure to its end for the benefit of the company. Attempting to embarrass someone to get your way is not an action that should be rewarded.

Like I said, sometimes it's fair, sometimes it's not. But if we all behaved like that the forum would be a zoo.

If the poster in question apologised and asked to come back, I'd say let him back in the show.

Correct. It certainly wasn't cricket. That's for sure :)

Thanks Dad.

No revelations here but the mods blow. That permanent banns are handed out for pointing out what is so painfully obvious is just more confirmation.

Well I know better than anyone because I've been banned the most!

But the rule of thumb is never critise the mods. You just have to deal with that fact.

Sure point out if you feel something is unjustified but you have to do it in way which follows the rules.

There may have been legitimacy in the argument. But it was soon lost in the method. And that's what lead to the ban.

ie my husband beats me, therefore I will shoot him rather than go to the police and report the problem.

This.

The mods will eventually back up because that's what they do. Meanwhile one of the more intelligent posters may or may not be inclined to come back.

This reminds me of umpires in baseball believing the ticket buying public came to see them. Some people can't handle even a smidge of power and this mod squad is full of 'em.

Back to following Maserati on Twitter I guess because this forum (still) blows.

Fair point, Hog. Though given that the nature of the threat was spelt out - i.e. take the matter to Benson - which stikes me as the correct thing to do with a mod complaint, no? - it seems to be a permaban basically for his tone.

There's an argument any ban is unfair in those circumstances. But a permaban? That's out past excessive, and getting dangerous close to a pretext.

Harmony. Funny thing about Harmony, Hog, as you'll know yourself. You need more than just one note.

I think both the mods and Benson have better things to do than deal with Dr Mas obsession of always having the last word and being "right". If he wanted to take it up with the powers that be, he should do it without making a post like that.

Also, if a mod tells you to stop doing whatever it is that youre doing, or deletes your post then just suck it up and stop doing it. This really isnt very hard.

That being said though, I think the permaban is incredibly harsh. Just ban him for a week like las time.

Im sure his lawyers are talking to Benson right now.. doubt this is the end of Dr Mas.

It is indeed the correct thing to do.

But in the process of following the process lambasting Berzin and speaking on behalf of the entire user base, telling him not to edit anyone's posts. What was that? And all that anger.

I'm sorry but Berzin can and will edit posts if he feels appropriate. Whether we like it or not. Harmony.

As I said. Their may have been legitimacy in the arugment but it was lost in the method.

If the supermarket girl short charges at the register then you walk over to the manger and discuss the issue, rationally. You don't stand up on the counter and shout to everyone how useless she may or may not be.

That's not forum rules but life rules. You know that. To get your point heard you have to first of all start with the process and do so rationally.

And I don't disagree in realtion to your point per musical notes. And on that theme, Berzin is the conductor and if one person fails to play in tune then the entire piece is ruined. It only takes one.

More metaphors than you can poke a stick at! :)

Permaban? Wow, this is the most high-profile permaban I can remember in the history of the forum. Dr. Maserati was highly respected, a forum institution... I wonder what the consequences will be, it may cause an exodus by other posters. Bold move by the mods, but it might backfire....

Dr. Maserati maybe thought he wouldn't get banned... "sometimes, the bigger they are, the harder they kick your a$$"
