Are you a transparent hypocrite, or what? Can you NOT see the double standard you are postulating? Why don't you just do the decent thing and delete the vulgar word from your post? The rules ought to apply equally to everyone, shouldn't they?

I have no problem with bison using the word **** in his daily, routine posts. It is just that when someone, especially if they are a mod, is criticising or passing judgement on another person because of their use of profanity - it doesn't help their credibility when they use profanity themselves to prove a point or attempt to justify the enforcing of a rule that this sort of behaviour is not tolerated.

I understand your point Darwin553. The specific however is my use of "profanity" is not within three standard deviations of the "profanity" I received.... My descritors being vile etc. Completely different ball game.

I reiterate: I used that terminology specifically to demonstrate an issue. What happened to me is beyond the Pale and will be dealt with result in immediate termination.

Either, or - my argument is that you need to make it clear that this sort of behaviour shouldn't be tolerated and that isn't by using inappropriate language yourself to make your point.

And that's what I thought I'd done.... By saying this is what Ive done, why I've done it, it's not great in fact it's not acceptable but hey I'm not perfect.

It's why I've left it instead of deleting the entire convo. Because it's getting a point across. Look beyond the word...look at the whole picture .

I think the point is that we (everyone else) are also not perfect, yet when we do something that is not acceptable it will get edited, unlike your post.

I banned butterhead. And have posted the reason in the suspension thread. Sorry it took me an hour, I had to do some work at work.

I also deleted all his posts because of his attitude and comments towards me...he brought this and removal of his CN "persona" on his own (butter)head through his vile obnoxious comments and attitude in PM exchange.

I don't have to put up with shit like that, if any of you want to play that card there is only going to be one result.

EDIT: looking back at my inbox I have noticed (s)he did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I can remember at the time being really annoyed but said what the hey and I let it slide
This post is a joke on so many levels. How do CN allow clown moderation like this? I thought Berzin was bad but this is a new low.

The issue here isn't a mod banning for the use of profanity but also using profanity himself IMO. It's more how the profanity was used. Butterhead used it multiple times and with the specific purpose to insult. SB's use on the other hand, is not insulting in any way.

I can only speak for myself, but if another user used it in the way SB did, I wouldn't look twice at it (just like I didn't look twice at SB use).

The way that SB used profanity was so much more minor then how it was used in the PM he received. And IMHO saying what Butterhead did was s**t is a perfectly reasonable way to describe it.

Maybe we should just post the PM for you all to see how minor his use of the word really is compared to Butterheads.

The issue isn't really SB's expression. The issue is that SB, as a mod, is claiming a mode of expression that is not available to other posters. That is [the word that SB can say but others can't].

Then we see SB attempting to shut down my discussion of this legitimate topic by calling it "trolling." That's some Orwellian use of the word "trolling." I assume that the topic is again open because SB and Afrank have both since posted on it.

Just abide by the same rules you're purporting to enforce. Is that unreasonable?

Hope you do remember the episode. By "we overturned it" I meant we. You included.

We did? Sheesh, don't remember that! Oh well, it was fun anyway! I don't usually find a good reason to type and format all those big dramatic sentences!

Yes, please do. I am curious how it could be so bad that Bison decided the best course of action was to nuke the last 3 months of the guys existence, even though that of course had nothing to do with said PM.

I don't think it is an unreasonable thing to ask at all. Would it be right to ask other admins to voice their opinion on the subject? At the moment, I think I'd like to hear some of those.

Huh, look at that I can't say ****, but sittingbull, or whatever, can say shit, and has been most of the day.

I think there are some misconceptions floating around that mods have access to a different code that allows them to type certain words that us mere mortals can not, and that sittingbison has perhaps taking advantage of that privilege.

But that is not the case.

This is not Pakistan, and my name is not Dick Pound.

such a noble gesture I volunteer to serve FGL's month long ban on their behalf

I have said this to FGL but I don't see why he would take a voluntary one month ban. A few days or a week would be sufficent to cool off if he felt he needed a break.

He had been getting personal with me recently but I was most insulted when he said I was a SKY fan.

Think about the time of year though. For some more volatile posters, they might think they will struggle to keep their cool in the inevitable arguments that will arise with the onset of July posters if they feel they are already struggling not to get confrontational with the regular posters on the more contentious topics. They may also not trust themselves to stay away from the forum when such performances take place.

Thereby, forcing themselves to take a month out of the forum and not be able to contribute to these arguments may save themselves from getting permabanned if they lose their cool next month.

Almost certainly I am overthinking this, but it is bizarre to see a poster asking for themselves to be banned, and doing it publicly, not by PM.

Are you kidding me?

No need to get all upset about that :p
