Situations like revealing personal information, uninhibited flaming/trolling/racism/etc. But some of the bickering and minor squabbling that goes on, I'd prefer if it was actually left alone. Warn them in the thread/PMs, infract/ban repeat offenders if it gets out of hand, but dicing up the threads makes them very difficult to follow....

agreed x 1000000

BTW the recent closing and cleansing was an example of the bolded, not just a bit of bickering or minor sqabbles. I think about 50 posts were nuked which had completely derailed the thread, becoming train wreck as 42x16ss described it

Taxus4a, just stop please. This is beyond ridiculous even for the Clinic, and indeed has been covered at length approximately ten times already.

Engage in a genuine conversation....or not. The choice is yours

cheers
bison

He is engaging in genuine conversation. He makes reasonable points, he is polite, and while he may be repeating points they are only in response to other points which have been also made over and over again.

He's not a frequent poster either, so how is his presence offending you?

Is it because his opinions are not your opinions? Are you so insecure in your thoughts them that you have delete opposition to them?

Your mods position doesn't give you a monopoly on 'truth', so rather than trying to censor why don't you wind your neck back in and try to engage in conversation yourself. This isn't your forum. You are here merely to serve the posters, of all beliefs and creeds, and not impose your dogma upon them or to allow you to feel important.

Moderators should be actively seeing the rules are upheld and should not be sitting around doing nothing. It is a difficult job being a moderator and I cannot understand why anyone would do it. It is like volunteering to be repeatedly bashed around the head every day. Thankfully some do do it otherwise this forum, like any internet forum, would be completely unusable for anybody who wishes to be a reasonable poster.

I would rather a moderator does a little bit too much moderating than a little bit too little moderating.

Taxus is a relatively regular poster and in most fields, quite knowledgeable too. However Taxus is constantly reiterating points that have been made and shot down time and time again. The same arguments are being made ad nauseum in response because of this.

It is posts like these that are preventing any new discussion but hey, when it comes to Sky you're on the same side of the fence, so we may as well keep pounding our heads against it

You're all pure gold. Parker is right, if one can't think my exactly thoughts, he's a freakin skybot, brainwashed etc. I'm the only one who can spread the same unproven things over and over and over and over again. Because I have a keyboard and that's enough for me in order to know everything and also make the others think like me.

Hi @sitting_bison I see Hiero referred to me in the Mod thread, please pass on these thoughts & questions…
Hiero, indeed we had many civil discussions, mainly me asking what was the Vortex. So as not to interfere with the forum or incur a ban. No-one could give me an explanation on what this made up phrase was, yet I (&only me) could be banned for it.So, please now explain exactly what it is and why it was the subject of moderation, yet no-one could state why.

Thanks Sb. Also yu can point out to Hiero that if I was merely looking to troll I would have returned under a new name by now and trolled the place, as many have done.

PS Tell ChrisE thanks for the magnificent compliment.

Keep up the good work mods! Your "work" is appreciated, and complaints of your work is just some posters having trouble giving you praise.:D

(of course not every one of them;))

Yeah, that.

Doing a great job-- all of you.
I'm seldom around much, but when I am it's refreshing to see some judicious cleaning being administered when warranted.
I love reading the threads, mostly. It's quite a bizarre social experiment, and one that reeks of humanity.

Thanks.

Sincerely,
Mr A.

Yeah the gringlish is too inconsistent, with those little "perfect English" phrases slipping through every now and then.

It smells.

ETA: wrong place to write this, I realise. Oops. Hmm delete? PM?

How exactly would you describe the posting style of Benotti then, the exact same handful of phrases repeated over and over and over.

Or Sniper, Sceptic or any of those posters, it is the exact sme thing repeated a million times over. But then they are on the other side of the SKY debate so what is the difference between them and Taxus???

A few token bans for the same people..?

No wonder people get annoyed when they get warned, posts deleted, whatever for small infractions and yet you encourage other posters to keep posting nonsense.

All posters are equal but some are more equal than others.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the discussion of Dr. Mas' PMs since he's no longer with us to defend or explain himself. I can appreciate the desire to clarify the situation, especially since that Free Dr. Mas thread keeps getting periodically bumped. But it seems like maybe private stuff should remain private out of respect for him.

Anyway, just my .02 cents.

Also:
Free The Hug :D

Ok. Obviously, we don't quite agree. And, fortunately for me, he has proven this line of reasoning wrong. See below. As for respect, is silence respect? I think not necessarily, although there are times it is better to "keep one's powder dry", I don't think this is one.

Dr Mas! What a pleasant surprise! Well - you should also note that I stated I did not believe you were intentionally trolling. I might have done it with greater clarity, but it IS there.

Of the two primary points presented via SB and (presumably) twitter, neither is true. Since several people did attempt to explain and discuss the problems and issues, with yourself, and given that these attempts were from people I have found to be generally rational, and well able to express themselves, and since there consistently seemed to be slippage between said discussions and posting behavior afterwards, I think the communication difficulty lies at one point. Should you wish to understand, you have a large history of communication to go back to and study. What you need to discover is inside yourself - what is it that you consistently miss? What is it that you are blind to?

As I've just said, this is also covered, ad nauseum, historically. It has been explained. And you were never alone in being censured for similar behavior. Were it not that the passage of time seems to have erased some memory of the past, I would not engage with this today.

Nor are you alone today. There are others, even on this very page, who insist on being hard-headed and dogmatic in their approach, and insist on missing what, to others, seems to have been made apparent and clear.

Dr Mas; I wish you luck, and good days, wherever you go.

That is not the half of it. A certain poster making secret deals to have specific members banned if they respond to the poster's posts then trying to taunt those members into responding. It is surprising there is time for this type of intrigue with all the time taken up with threatening people for posting pics of cats that look like Hitler.

Technically, it started with posting a picture of Cancellara looking like Hitler.

Welcome to the No Godwin Zone.

as some more equal than others, is that not the way of the world, some more talented physically, mentally, musically etc etc...

So many get so riled by a forum and what anonymous posters post about a minority sport that is proven to be so unfair and full of cheating that maybe some should stop for a minute a think...........

Interesting... I have heard similar mutterings and had just mentioned this in a PM to another poster. Though I get the impression we are talking about two very different posters.

If people perceive that they are being treated unfairly they will eventually just leave.

True and true but I am not really musically gifted...

From a spectator point of view is it really a minority sport? Besides, are you saying that you have never been riled by what an anonymous person writes to the point where you complained?

Quoted as beautiful examples of post-writing.

"I'll have that with just a touch of snide . . . and hold the snark please." Entertaining. Nutritionless, but entertaining!

I think after he manages to suck people into the discussion, he starts reporting every post, eventually forcing the mods to do something about it.

Could be wrong though.. Maybe the mods could shed some light on who reports the most posts?
