Clearly there is potential entertainment in attempting to see who can be the most clever regarding creating joke names for people based upon allegations of doping, etc. Recent well known examples are, "Pharmstrong", "Albuterol", "Clentador", "Mr 60%", etc.

From the perspective of CyclingNews, these nicknames are clearly doping related. The rules of the site state that doping conversation is banned everywhere other than the Clinic. Therefore, members using or referring to these names outside the Clinic should expect to be contacted by the moderators. During the Tour de France, this contact will be in the form of a Strike as per the currently enforced Strikes system.

Seriously? I have seen a lot of over-the-top moderation on this site, but this clearly is the winner. By this standard Martin318is would not be allowed to post anywhere but the cafe since his nickname clearly refers to a car and not cycling.

Let people's posts speak for themselves. A nickname is not a conversation, nor a conversation starter anymore than 318is is a invitation to discuss BMWs after any of Martin's posts.

Lighten up, mods. You've got enough to do without going off on ridiculous snipe hunts.

If it wasn't sufficiently obvious - that post refers to the usage of such nicknames when posting ABOUT riders outside the Clinic. to put it in another context, if you want to talk about "Alberto Contador", do so in Professional Road cycling (or any other forum) but if you want to talk about "Albuterol Clentador" then do so in the Clinic as you are clearly referencing doping and this is not allowed outside the clinic.

This is a very clear line with no grey area.

my bad. i thought you meant people had chosen those names as their login names and they would be forbidden to post elsewhere.

What is next? No one can call Bruyneel The Hog. Although not being able to call Riis his well known nickname already veers into the ludicrous.

Moderation policy appears to set by the complaints of overly sensitive whingers who the mods feel the need to placate instead of telling them to hike up their panties.

Martin - what's up with editing my post out in the Kolobnev thread? Masking agent to cover steroids, which are pretty much ineffective according to the GL fanboys. That keeps up the myth and the general party line in the clinic, because we all know when LA is mean to somebody they turn pure as snow.

If a thread could go on where I could disect apart such BS then that would be great. But, the last time that happened I was banned for 6 months. We can go on ranting about Kolobnev but when I point out the hypocrisy it's ban/edit time.

Your moderating slants are obvious and pathetic.

Because you felt the need to add this piece of utter irrelevance in order to fire people up: "Sheesh, didn't they learn anything from Greg Lemond? These things are ineffective vs a clean rider."

If you want to discuss LA or GL, there are plenty of threads to do so but neither of them have any relevance to Kolobnev. If you really feel the need to discuss that aspect of this case then find a thread to put it in, or create a new one but do not attempt to derail an existing one by bringing baiting into it.

wow perfect. I am not so certain baiting was involved. You are the LAW so ,,,,,,so says you.

I left the original post as is. I should have put some smiles or something to show my sarcastic intentions. My apologies to Martin318is for the troubles. I appreciate you guys. Maybe I should have not posted at all. I was just having a go at my friend Chris in a round about way.

My apologies again.

cheers.

The Hitch was banned for receiving his second strike when he called for crashes to be arranged for certain riders.

Susan

Dear Mods.

I wasn’t calling for crashes to be arranged. What kind of a monster do you think I am.

I made a joke, a pretty light one by forum standards, that if the individual who ruined Samus Tour wants forgiveness he should take out Samus opponents. It is a PG rated joke. Cartoons for kids have jokes such as “ If I told you I would have to kill you”. No one ever believes that the speaker is making death threats against the listener. In the same manner, if one reads my post, I just don’t see how it can be interpreted as a call to attack riders.

The point was that I don’t think the individual deserves forvgiveness, rather than that I believe said individual should turn up to Paris with a baseball bat and knock out half the peloton.

Im not attacking the mods, and I can accept that my first strike was deserved. I can also accept the one day ban even though I think it was a great misunderstanding, but I would ask for the mods to take a second look at the post (if you still have it) read it, decide whether the wording really implies im trying to cause my crash, and hopefully, if the decision is made that it was a misunderstanding, bring me back to strike 1 as right now on strike 2 im risking a month ban for any slight misunderstanding.

To reiiterate, NO WAY IN HELL was it a call to arrange crashes for riders and Im shocked that anyone could interpret it that way.

Secondly I would like to point out that my post DID NOT break any of the rules outlined in either the rules thread - http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=2824 , nor in the TDF rules thread http://forum.cyclingnews.com/showthread.php?t=14295

Since my first strike Ive double checked over all my posts to make sure im not breaking any rules, precisely because I did not want a ban during the Tour. The post in the general news thread was no different. I read over it, made sure no rules were broken and waited for maybe a similar joke responce from another poster.

It would also be a stretch to argue that I was breaking the common sence standard.“ When in doubt, let common sense be your guide”.

Ive seen plenty of posts by posters making serious wishes for riders to crash. My post was a joke, and no serious reading of it could suggest otherwise, but there was absolutely nothing in CNF history to suggest it is against the rules to wish riders ill, joke or no joke. Not only in the clinic but I also remember this example.

ingsve said:
I hope he crashes and breaks a few bones so he'll be out for a year or two.

The same poster also made a joke about how Soler needs to start crashing to help his fantasy cycling team, the day before you know what. Everyone knew that was a joke. No one got banned. I had no reason to believe a joke about causing Schleck to lose time was going to get me any kind of warning yet alone ban.

Common sence told me that if wishing riders broken bones is ok, joking about a spectator taking them out, will easily pass.

So in other words there seems to now be a grey area where actually the rules don’t mean much because posts that don’t break any rules can now get people 1 month bans, or at least in my case since I have 2 strikes.

Thank you for your time.

gotta love july

Comparing me to Pisti and Ryo is a far worse crime than making a joke about forgiveness.

Worth at least a strike.

Don't worry I got a warning for a similar reason. BTW, I agree with you about this topic being a grey area. I have seen a lot worse in this forum (not that yours was bad) but I believe that it must be July and we get a lot of new or once in a year forumites. So probably they want to keep this forum as clean as possible for this month. They want this forum to be very presentable for the public or non-fans in case they stump by the forum because of a Google search.

This is just me guessing.

I am glad that you are back. And please open the next mountain stage thread.:)

Thanks.

Physician heal thyself. May we assume that you have removed your own off topic ramblings from the Armstrong thread, or do those pesky rules only apply to some of us?
