Can anyone tell me why I was banned for 'bickering'? I received no warning, no cease and desist-type thing, I have no idea what I was doing or saying that constituted bickering which is about as ambiguous a phrase as possible, also suggesting what I was doing was rather banal.

Plus this is the internet: if you ban people for bickering you may as well pull the plug and ask the last one out to turn off the lights and lock to the door.

So I was banned with no warning, have received no communication as to why I was banned, so I have no idea what line I crossed and how to avoid doing it again. You call that moderating? It is very poor indeed. I at least expected a PM explaining the offense but not even that. I would hope to get a proper answer here but I won't hold my breath.

Oh, is that bickering? I don't have a clue. Do I get banned again? I don't have a clue. Basically I have no idea if or when I'll get banned or for what.

Tight ship you run here.

We got banned for the same Jimmy. It was for what we wrote in the Sky thread the noon/night before the ban.

IIRC one of the offending posts of mine was:
Oh how ironic coming from you

Seems clear that's a three day ban without any warning, given that I'm a senior member and therefore don't need any warning.

Somehow though I've been able to post the exact same thing other times without resulting in a ban. Or an infraction. Or a warning. Most times even without it being deleted. Yet somehow I should've foreseen that it this time would result in a three day ban.

And it's not like it was heated and derailed the thread for pages, where it only got back on topic after the bans. Everything had returned back to normal before any action was taken.

On another note: Why was it Afrank and not the mod who banned samish01, who posted the notification in the Member Suspensions thread?

I know. And Afrank didn't ban the user in question AFAIK.
Sorry… didn't realise it was a rule that the mod who bans must be the mod who posts it in that thread.

It isn't, but it's the standard ;)

I just asked why.

Happens often it seems. For instance, Parrulo posting ban notifications when it should have been Berzin.

I guess he just forgot.

Berzin is a special case :p

But that doesn't mean it happens often. IIRC it didn't happen a single time in the period of my modship(is this a word?).

Good to see the cooling off period worked...

Cant expect more from an unrepentant banned poster like Martin V. He is like the Ricardo Ricco of posters. Just cant help himself.

Because I was the one who banned him. I deleted his posts and had to use the 'delete as spam' function in order to ban him.

why dont you mods use IP bans on posters that keep making new accounts, like ianstannard?

who was he btw? Joachim?

I don't believe he was any previous poster, but just another poster that arrived here and kept coming back after multiple bans. He also doesn't appear to have understood that coming back under a new account is against the rules, which partly explains why he kept coming back. I did PM him that this was against the rules, so hopefully he gets the message this time.

Gotcha. Well, I assumed his first ban was because he was someone permabanned before. His posts seemed pretty harmless to me.

<rest of the BS snipped for brevity>

carry on disingenuously like this Netserk - after I spent hours on twitter explaining in simple terms so even a child could understand - and you'll be skating on VERY thin ice

If you break these rules, you're risking being banned. Think before you post.
• Complaining or boasting about any ban, including comments in signature text and/or avatars.
• Harassing the moderators or administrators. Cooperation with moderators is expected. If you have a complaint about a moderator, write directly to a different moderator.

I'd like to propose a new rule:

If you behave like an jackass in a PM to someone, you should receive a lifetime ban.

Seems fair to me.

I always reserved PMs for genuine and sincere interactions with others. It can be a nice way to avoid the noise and clutter of the forum itself, and it allows for a more personal connection.

But hey, maybe that's just me.

I thought it was a "rule"...as in one maybe not explicit but implied...common knowledge ;)

As Heiro2 and various others, usually Americans, keep saying, there is no such thing as a "private" communication once its been sent. So no, members cannot be abused, insulted, hounded, harrassed, threatened etc in a PM.

However, I'm not sure where "jackass" fits in :D

luck

just unlucky............wrong place / wrong time

where minor rule breaking is generally ignored / raises a warning from mod / post deleted for some reason rules were strictly enforced and you were banned

recently another member stated to myself......'I can't believe I have not been banned after so many warnings to my baiting / insulting posts '

2 innoccuos posts from myself and a 3 day holiday

sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles
