OK, where were we?
Mac Roadie
That's it. Nothing more to add...

fun is fun, but rubbish is nonsense.
Elagabalus
I have a problem with this. You can't ban someone for three months because you don't like his posting style. YMMV
peloton
Thank you, finally someone did something about it.
You have to be kidding....
Caruut
I'm pretty sure they can. In what way is Polish not guilty of violating these rules, either?
pactricknd
'cause polish is the only one. yeah okay
Scott SoCal
Yes. Thanks are in order.
RaceRadio
Thanks....but this is going to make Polish and I's Sunday rides a bit awkward
red_flanders
No one is banned because of their posting style whether folks believe that or not. That is of course unless one's posting style involves frequently and insistently violating the rules. Plenty of leeway is given.
Several (not just one) people have been banned for that kind of behavior, and once a member is given a short ban, if the violations continue the bans will escalate.
There's no need to pile on here, in my view. Thank you.
Benotti69
Polish must have pushed the limits out beyond the nebula region of outer space with the blatant rule breaking he gets away with. Leeway is one thing, but come on, his invention of a new way of trolling has been ignored for far too long, even the humour of it has long passed its sell by date.
Edit just noticed it is a 3month ban! too short far too short and he is probably here now in sockpuppet form
boomcie
Hellohooooo.
mewmewmew13
whoa!
go away for a day and look what I miss..
edit: and thank you palmerq

Just for some clarity...
It is no trivial matter for anyone to be banned. The decision often involves more than one Admin (not always but often).
AND let's be clear a poster can be banned for any number of reasons. Where we can and it makes sense we will give a reason in the 'Member Suspension' thread but all of this has an element of the subjective. That is to say in the end we decide if someone has their posting privileges removed temporarily or permanently. That's just the way it is.
I have no doubt this will make perfect sense to some and be unsatisfactory to others but the fact remains that is how it works.
We are volunteers and we do the best we can

It isn't that he is banned, but, rather the arbitrary way in which the punishments are meted out. I view Polish as mildly irritating comic relief and certainly no way near as irritating as some of the other poster/fanboys. 3 months is a bit excessive IMO-again YMMV.
Oh, and Red, two dissenters among the cognoscenti is hardly piling it on.
red_flanders
I think you mistake my meaning.
Libertine Seguros
In general, action depends on what gets reported though. Some of the mods are fairly hardcore posters here, but some of them aren't. They can only judge what they see.
I personally haven't reported a single post in the time I've been here. If a post is generally offensive then I can usually rely on somebody else having reported it already, if I am finding it specifically offensive but it isn't a personal attack on me then I just figure I should chill out a bit. People who have a reputation get posts reported more often, therefore mods see more of that side of them. C'est la vie.
ChrisE
Yes, thanks palmerq!
The echo chamber is nearly completely sealed due to your hard work!
Elagabalus
I was going to say something like "well ... I hope you guys don't go deaf inside the echo chamber you created" but you beat me to it.
But, hey, look on the bright side. Now we can all look forward to Dr.M, MI, Ben, Py and Rhubarb not limiting themselves to just 5 or 6 paragraphs per post but they, now, can properly stretch their wings to 9 or 10 paragraphs per post!
Usedtobefast
some people love the sound of their own voice. "i will now pontificate at LENGTH!!!..." brevity? what's that?
Dr. Maserati
Nearly, but not quite, right ChrisE?
As for Polish, while some action was required I think the 3 month ban is a rather long and strange stretch. I think a month is far more appropriate, and if someone returns to their old ways a further month.
A three month ban only encourages people to setup sock-puppets and use them to deliberately troll.
Apologies for so few paragraphs, I am going to ask for some credit to use them in a different thread.
ChrisE
No, it is not completely sealed. Fortunately some mods see the value in my contribution in the clinic, and I will carry on representing the poor, weak, and outcasts of CN forum!
Yes, 3 months is too long but hopefully he gets therapy during that time to change his POV. Further bans are warranted if he doesn't get in line with the prevailing opinion in here about LA. We can't have people with different opinions fouling up the conversation flow.
As to sockpuppets, my theory is that it is more fun to have a sockpuppet when you are not banned. Replying to one's posts to ratchet up the screeching is pretty entertaining, I would imagine. I don't have a link verifying how a sockpuppet user may feel, so I am sure you will dismiss this opinion.
Dr Maserati
he highlighted pieces pretty much contradict each other and I certainly would not dismiss your opinion on sock-puppets, you have expertise in that area.
ChrisE
Really? Concentrate and try again.
One is about how the mods view me. The other is about how you etal feel about polish's opinion, and whether it should be banned. My apoligies; perhaps I should post in clearly defined bullets in the future.
Dr Maserati
I'll try real hard.
Ok.
I never mentioned his "opinion" - thats seems like an invention on your part.
His trolling got him banned, not his opinion - and as I am not a mod I cannot ban people so your point was dumb.
Your 'apoligy' is accepted.
ChrisE
One man's opinion is another man's troll.
Now, I have reach my monthly quota with your childish games. See you in August.
TheGame
Why is this thread still open?
Or is it not against the rules to criticize other members anymore? **** me, lets all have a party, congratulations mods on banning someone, lets all come here and tell you how pleased we are that you banned them.
Three months? Where did that come from? One month, yes siree, perma-ban, thats been heard of. Three Months? You're making this up as you go along.
And then allowing members to create a thread where they publicly slate the aforementioned member and give the moderators a pat on the back.
Bite me!
pedaling squares
Have to agree with The Game. Well, not the bite me part. That would be creepy. Polish is one 'troll' who never bothered me, probably because he could be very funny and because he was right enough of the time to be tolerable. But that's not meant to critique palmerq's decision, as he is in the mix and knows when it's time to pull the trigger. 3 months though, wow. Bit of a precedent set there. But what's with this thread? Is it a place to gloat, a place to suck up, or another place where Dr Mas can nitpick every nuance of his antagonists' posts? Either way, it's pretty tiresome and a bit petty.
Race Radio
There is a word for this but it escapes me at the moment....
ChrisE
Clever.
I wanted to write it for you. You are not doing too well with spellcheck lately.
palmerq
I concur.. lets all talk about the moderating stuff in the moderators thread
Oh, yes that's right.
Well, In the "Ongoing Strikes System Announcement" thread it clearly states that:
"A third active infraction will result in a 1 month suspension. (strike three)."
How is it then, that you can justify giving Polish a 3 (count 'em 3) month ban?
