Actually, I think re-opening "sockpuppet speculation" might be a good idea. It might turn into mob-rule, but it COULD give the accused a chance to respond, and other ppl a chance to weigh in.

Of all the people who were banned for being sock puppets when I was a mod - I saw very very little good evidence. There were a couple of calls that investigation bore out - but there were also a calls that I still think were bad calls. I won't go farther lest I reveal what techniques are used. But I very much think that more than a couple of posters were banned more because their attitude was disliked than for good reason.

Well like Netserk mentioned, just compare registration IP's and that way you get to know if the account is a sockpuppet or not... what could go wrong? There is no better evidence, lol.

No one would bother to go behind a proxy just to create a sockpuppet account on a forum. Somewhat too much work.

1) Lots of non-sockpuppet share IP's. I'm almost certain that you have at least one in common with another Portuguese poster

2) Some do use proxies.

3) There is better evidence than that, and it certainly does not take mod-powers to spot a sockpuppet, if you know what to look for.

Oh, wasn't aware of that. I thought an IP as an adress given by the ISP to a single individual that uses their services.

That is why if you search my IP, you can only find out my region, and not the street, and actual adress, etc. Thanks

That was because I knew that was an unique IP, and I knew that there was evidence that it was a sockpuppet, so it puzzled me that it wasn't banned yet.
