More UCI ineptitude/wrongdoings ???

Have been reading some of JV's twitter account this morning.

He was talking to some people about cycling and pro tour races etc. Talking about why UK has no protour events etc

Jonathan Vaughters
Beijing has Govn't funding, not dependent on sponsorship. Less fickle market regarding doping issues

Inner Ring
it's also got €445,000 Euros siphoned from the Pro Tour fund. ToC doesn't get that.

Jonathan Vaughters
Yes, and @alainrumpf knows that ain't cool. But, he has promised to refund with interest.

Scott O'Raw
Where has Rumpf said that?!

Jonathan Vaughters
To me, privately. He used the startup $$ for GCP w/o consent of teams, but has promised to repay.

From a lot of what JV is saying, it seems that to promote/start up the Tour of Beijing, the GCP (Global Cycling Promotion?) borrowed €445,000 from a fund set up and contributed to by teams who entered the pro-tour when it was set up in 2004.

But they will repay it

Plus 177,000 swiss francs the year before...

Thanks for that.

Interesting reading that link. I was only reading a series from there a few days ago (here....) about the income of the UCI, the Tour and the financial aspects

(reading the earlier parts of that series is pretty interesting too)
