okay, dumb question time: why put the arms of your sunnies on the outside of your helmet straps? What's the logic behind that?

I always thought these were terrible, and now they use them in about half the news stories, so we get to see them over and over.

Depending on the shape of your head and the glasses, the helmet straps can compress the arms into the side of your head. Makes the side of my head just over my ears hurt.
