Caleb Ewan completing a Grand Tour !!!

Ha Ha ... as if that'll happen ROFLAO

Could be riding the TDF in 2017.

The question of whether he would start any of the three GTs was not the one being asked but rather his capacity to complete one. I have little doubt that he WILL be selected for one; albeit if the proposed reduction in team size goes ahead; the wisdom of doing so SHOULD be heavily questioned given you are essentially condemning yourself to be one man down before GC heats up. Acceptable practice in the previous incarnation of OBE but now ???

Granted, OBE could not necessarily promised the full support to Matthews for "Green Jersey" along with major GC contenders but it still has to be said; at least he is the brand of fast man who could be taken to a GT & supported to some degree without compromising GC. Ditto Cort ... or even Mezgec but Ewan ?? Far too resource intensive requirements for ANY potential success ..... and zero trade-off re survivability/domestique utility or even TTT utility.

Still, better for the team to make these mistakes early and hopefully digest the lessons quickly rather than still be pondering such issues mid-late 2018. Yes, I make little apology for my Ewan "scepticism" but whilst I remain very doubtful of his capacities; other teams may have race priorities and goals where he can/may get team precedence for far more races than would be the case going forward at OBE. Hopefully, this becomes apparent to both Ewan & OBE over the next 12-15 months.

Hence my post about the TDF - Take the view that Chaves is number one in the team, Assuming Chaves is riding the Giro and the Vuelta, that means Chaves doesn't want Ewan in these races - So Ewan could ride the TDF which has a fairly friendly sprinter parcours and he could snare a stage - Will say, I only want Ewan to ride the TDU in the Aussie summer season, no Bay Crits or Herald Sun Tour - Let him focus on learning to ride on cobbles in which he has some aptitude - It's interesting Ewan is attending OBE's European camp, rather than the Australian camp.

Cav to win MSR, 5 tour stages, green jersey, and 3 vuelta stages.
Kreuziger to win LBL and GDL.
EVB to win worlds.
Sagan to not win anything finally fulfilling his curse.
Valverde to win Amstel and Vuelta.
Froome to destroy Contador the 1st half of the year and then Contador straight crushes everyone in the Tour.
I wouldn't mind it. If he does it, we'll officially dub him Albertroll Contador

Will grant you that TDF would probably be the most likely ..... but the core concerns still remain. Negligble probability of him lasting full distance, negligble utility towards the teams prime goals for the race. Furthermore, he would be coming up against the "very biggest boys" who are on teams where THEY are the primary focus and with teams built around supporting them. Anything more than one dedicated support rider for Ewan runs the risk of seriously diluting the support for (probably) Yates. I'd much rather have Ewan cracking a pout than seriously pissing off the man who is far more likely to bring in results !!

Cobbles aptitide ??? Big of a stretch to claim that from just one outing ..... and that being the least selective of them all (last hill 50+km from finish). 15th in a mass bunch sprint is hardly conclusive of any true aptitude. Sure give him a run out or two at one of the lesser cobbled races ..... but I'd be majorly surprised to see him finishing let alone being useful.
