He did say “GTs he has finished.”

In the GTs where he crashed out, I think we can all agree it was likely he would have been on the podium at the finish. Except maybe this Tour; I think Remco probably was stronger than him.
Although my post is 10 months old things haven't got much better - consecutive implies consistency, which of course poor Primoz has anything but.

Honestly all these GT records are so incredibly low, truly only waiting for someone to completely demolish them. The fact that a rider of Nibalis caliber is only two podiums off the record is astounding.
In most sports longevity actually trends up, so a metric that's basically a career volume of a certain level still stemming from the 1950s is much more shocking for me than Nibali being 2 podiums away from it.

But that's the thing, most of the top spots are not taken by modern day greats but then you have Nibali who is argubly a distant 3rd best gc rider of his own era and yet he comes so close. It's a bit as if despite the dominance of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, Murray actually held the record for most GS semifinal appearences.

Also Nibali was neither extremely young when he started scoring podiums nor is he seen as an example of extreme longevity. I just find it very curious that there has never been an outlier of someone consistently getting podiums and having a very long career. Like a version of Valverde who actually scores Vuelta podiums year in and year out (Essentially Valverde if he was as good of a gc rider as Enric Mas).

Perhaps it's just to much to expect a rider to score a high percentage of podiums and high number of races.
The race window was historically a lot tighter, taking 1990 as a typical example, the Vuelta started on 24th April, the Giro started three days after the Vuelta finished and the Tour finished on 22nd July.
