Quite some claims in that article. Let's hope they name names and have some concrete proof - otherwise it's not really adding anything that isn't already suspected.[/quote]

On a completely selfish level I hope that some of this turns out to be true. I have been very suspicious of a certain Swiss rider since his spectacular winning attack against Boonen a few years ago. The Strade Bianche race might have ideal logistics to pull of a switch out of a motorized bike: use it early to save energy then switch it out before the spectator and TV presence get too intense.

Re: Mechanical doping: first rider caught

It would be rather surprising if genuine proof was first released via a TV show

I've used the Fluke heat cameras before to find the source of a water and air leaks. You have to get fairly close to the subject to see the source or evidence of a change in temperature. If they were to do it in a race is imagine they'd have to be on the moto when the engine was actually being used, otherwise I'm not sure you'd get a reliable reading.

Apparently they were on motos.

Good to know. I also saw a air conditioning engineer use one once as well. Impressive piece of equipment. Before he was going to start break open walls and plaster he needed to know he exact source of the water leak. Pin pointed it perfectly.

If they were on the motos during the race then I would be very confident of the readings. The model I used could take photographs and video footage, imagine they used the same in DSLR form to not rise suspicion.

You can now buy them for your iPhone as a plug in. Not sure on accuracy of those models.

Why fans are in denial? This is one of the reasons why we dwell so much with a single drug (or new cheating system) for a long time. I think we are our own enemy.
Not in denial. In scepticism.

We'll see after the program airs.

Sceptical of motor use in cycling or whether the program will name names?

Not sure if the bike is regulation but, looks like a future TDF winner to me!

Looks like he'd do well in the classics, too. And I'll his bloodstream is cleans. Needs to speed up his cadence, though.

and practice stemwatching... unless he's got batteryzilla

This. There has been a lot of noise and words spoken about motors in the men's pro peloton over the last couple of years. But absolutely no proof or firm evidence.

Of course, that's not to say that motors aren't being used; but if all this programme does is add more words and allegations, without proper evidence and without names, then it's a waste of time.

Why would it be a waste of time? You mean it shouldn't be talked about?

Bizarre.

No denial here, I'm sure that racers are cheating every way that they can at local crits, gran fundos, and in the pro platoon, but is this story based on facts or just more speculation?

EDIT: Hey thehog, one more "this is how it 'could' be done" doesn't really do much. Give us "here is _____'s seat tube at ____race".

You can watch live on CyclinghubTV now if you like.

Yes, I understand but the article has already said they used "thermal heat" cameras. If you want iron proof of doping you could never get it. Same with motors in bikes, unless you can break open the bike yourself no one is going to be able to prove 100%. However a thermal camera is like a EPO test, there is beyond reasonable doubt of its use.
