Niki Østergaard was also one of the riders who beat Froome in the edition of the Giro delle Regioni that was used to show his early talent - he did a few of the development races that Froome was doing back in 2007 as an espoir.

I think some of you guys are underestimating how much power you can put out seated. Typically it's roughly only 10% less than standing as the arms do provide some help but not that much. Myself I did 1200 W today on the trainer seated and I'm fully natty with genetically weak quads.

That being said it It does look suspicious to me, mainly the sheer speed and pressing a button on the handlebar then immediately switching to the hoods. People are indeed fidgety and irrational, but why press a satellite shifter then move your hands directly to the hoods? Extra half second of surprise maybe.

if the hr data is correct then it's a no brainer. drops one of the world's best and doped climbers with nary a fluctuation in his bpm. Not possible.

It has been shown the water bottles place on the seat tube, often provide more aero gains compared to the downtube location. Better than without a bottle at all. The shape/flow over the seat tube and what it does passing around the wheel.

But hey...whatever!

I guess the irony of Kerrison telling us that Froome was more aero attacking in the saddle all whist keeping his bidon in place to the end of the stage, lol!

One marginal gain cancelled out by a marginal loss? :cool:

So UCI still part of the sports problem! Who would have guessed...which means the rich teams are probably able to influence the sport in many ways.....Froome finishing a MTF with a bidon looks ever more suspicious.

This photo is a better representation of our good friends at the UCI. The Brits keep it in the family with a friendly tip off of the police investigation and time to lay low for a while. What next? Informing Ferrari of police investigations into riders?

The UCI has managed to become a bigger joke than it was under McQuaid. That takes some doing! Cookson has run the organisation into the ground and ignores moto doping.

One, sent at 12.37 CEST on July 11 of last year, appears to be an exchange between Barfield and Gibbings.

“Hi,” the message reads. “Do you have a phone number I can all [sic] you on straight away, I’m sitting with French police who believe an engineer ‘Hungarian’ is visiting TDF today to sell a bike and visit teams, could this be your guy???”

The message concludes by asking Gibbings to call him on a number which Stade 2 has partially obscured.

Gibbings sent a message the following day to Stefano Varjas, a Hungarian engineer who has long been regarded as instrumental to the development of hidden motors.

That email read as follows:

“I was doing family stuff yesterday when this mail came in from a guy in the UCI so I didn’t see it until late in the evening. The French police have opened a file on ‘motor doping’ and will prosecute under ‘anti cheating’ laws. I have given no information on Stefano or any of the customers from the past only saying that Typhoon were happy to help in anyway possible to try and detect a similar system in racing bikes.

“My understanding is that I will be contacted again in the future. Nobody has asked me for the names of Typhoon’s engineers yet.

“Bill doesn’t know about this at the moment, but we are due to meet at some point today when I’ll have to tell him.

“I don’t need to tell you guys this is a very big and serious mess.

“As I get anymore information I will pass along to you.”

Varjas quickly left the race, preventing police plans to interview him.

Barfield was approached at the Critérium du Dauphiné by one of the journalists involved in the programme. Shown the emails in question, he confirmed that it was sent by him. He was then asked why he had passed on information of a confidential police investigation to others.

He said it was to give information. When it was pointed out to him that Typhoon is not part of the UCI, he said the company was a partner and that giving the information was part of helping the police. However, according to Stade 2, the police have disputed this version of events and said that Barfield did not contact them again.

Another reporter from Stade 2 approached Gibbings in Monaco. The latter confirmed receiving the email from Barfield and said that Varjas was not at the Tour de France for Typhoon and had actually told the company that he was not attending the race.

CyclingTips requested comment from the UCI on the allegations but has not yet received a response.

Surely Stefano is Stefano Varjas. Of course it's a bit weird to refer to Varjas as Stefano in an email directed to Varjas (why not just write "you") but perhaps Varjas works in a company or has someone who checks his email, who knows.

It could be directed to Varjas and some more people (Typhoon staff?) at the same time, then it would make sense to use "Stefano" instead of "you". Also "I don’t need to tell you guys" would make sense.
