I wonder if the Hunger Games films might be worth a try. I read the first pages of the first book and knew it wasn't for me because of the writing style, but that does not matter for the films, so, hm.
With my son I have started to watch all those films that I avoided when I was younger: fantasy, marvel, action hero movies... I'm now almost an insider in this world and I kind of started to like it. I remember when the LOTR films came out (I was about 16 or something) and all the girls in my class were going wild about Aragorn and I only knew the photos and was like "what, that guy looks disgusting". Now I like him and also Sam and Frodo and everyone.
Harry Potter was only about Alan Rickman for me. Totally not into the story or the books at all.
Bourne and Bond on the other hand I have always liked, I've just always been into spy movies.

Seems like Hollywood productions just got the green light to to start making movies again. I saw the first two Hunger Games movies which I thought were okay but not something I would not watch again. I liked the LOTR book and movies, didn't like the Hobbit movies as much, Harry Potter didn't do it for me in books or movies. The Reacher movies were okay, think I preferred the Bourne ones. I think the best James Bond movies are the old ones but they are always watchable for the stunts and the action not to mention the scenery ! The John Wick movies were so so. Didn't bother with the third one. The first Taken movie was decent but then declined fast. The new Bond movie is ready for release, I think at the end of the year, I read somewhere. Last one for Daniel Craig but he said that before and big money lured him back !
I liked the Hobbit less than LOTR but still really enjoyed them. I was disappointed in what they cut out in the Battle of the Five Armies, the extended edition could and should have been the theatrical version. Maybe since I was a kid when Harry Potter started up but I really the books. Bourne movies are nothing like the books.
I have only seen Taken 1 and parts of the others but I'll watch some Liam Neeson. I have seen Unknown, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Cold Pursuit, non-stop, The Grey, Run All Night, and The Commuter all after Taken was released. I liked all the Bond movies those Pierce Bronsan is my favorite.

Connery and Brosnan were the best Bonds I think but all of them had their own personalities, the Roger Moore ones were more lighthearted. Daniel Craig is probably the most serious one. Often it's the villains that make the Bond movies so entertaining.

I loved Sean Bean in Goldeneye, it would have been cool if they got a series of movies out of the two instead of one.

What did you think of A Walk Among the Tombstones.?

I enjoy most of the James Bond movies, I find the Daniel Craig ones overall as my least favorite. I think Timothy Dalton's are a bit under rated.

I really enjoyed it, that might be top 3 out of the list. Movie wise it's closer to The Grey, Unknown, and Cold Pursuit than Taken, Non-Stop etc. but a lot darker with a good amount of action. It is not for the faint of heart. Usually on his more serious movies you have to pay attention to catch everything and it'll pay dividends on this.

I haven't seen Dalton's as much as the others but still good.

Dalton is probably the forgotten Bond, along with George Lazenby who only made one Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service which was a very good one. Telly Savalas was a good villain also. Sean Connery returned to make Diamonds Are Forever after Lazenby and before Roger Moore took over, then he returned again in the 80s to make Never Say Never which was an apt title ! That was Connery's last Bond movie and probably his worst.

Thank you. I remember the previews when it first came out but never could decide if it was worth watching. Sounds like I should watch it next time I see it on.

Dalton's two Bond films are: The Living Daylights and License to Kill

Hopefully it doesn't lose its value on TV from things being cut.
Yes those two, I don't own them like the others same with OHMSS but see them when played in November every year though it's been awhile. When I was younger I thought each actor made ten plus Bond movies each, oh to be naive again.

True, there can be that issue. However there are a few movie stations that although have commercials do play the full movies. Eventually it'll show up there.

We do have those two on DVD. There are a couple of the newer ones we don't have. The last two Daniel's movies and Die Another Day. We have the rest on DVD.

I understand the sentiment.

I had to buy Tomorrow Never Dies because it didn't come with the Bronsan set somehow. I wonder who they'll go with after Craig.

Watched The Faculty (1998) a teen horror comedy directed by Robert Rodriguez. Surprisingly good cast for a mediocre movie. Best watched in a semi coherent state. Also watched Gran Torino (2009) acted and directed by Clint Eastwood. Not classic Eastwood but it was watchable. Only a nice performance by Eastwood himself stopped the film from tanking. A few good potshots taken at middle class families and gang violence but overall not terribly convincing. Needed a script doctor..............

Of course Goldfinger is the best. Although it's been ages since I last watched it and maybe I'd be disappointed today.

Also quite some time since I watched those. I actually loved Gran Torino. Of course a lot of "Eastwood-coolness", but it still worked very well for me, unlike Million Dollar Baby, which I hated!
I suppose I'm a pretty emotional person. All I can say with movies that I have watched years ago is "oh, I loved that / I hated that. What happened? I don't remember, but I remember the feeling..."

I liked Million Dollar Baby except for one stupid fight scene but once again I don't think it was classic Eastwood. I thought Freeman and Eastwood acted well together. Goldfinger was very good. I still think the early Bond movies were the best maybe because the Cold War was still going then ! Though you could argue that there is a new Cold War now in some ways.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

This is the second of the Maleficent movies. We watched the first one with our niece about five years ago so my wife felt the need to watch part 2. It won't make it on my list of favorite movies, but it is 'interesting' how spot on it is for what is happening in the world right now (not C19) considering that it was released in 2019, but written and filmed before...maybe this is a reoccurring theme...

Have to admit I haven't see any of these movies or any of the Thor movies or Iron Man movies. Some of the Spiderman movies were good and Batman of course. I was watching the X-Men movies until I got tired of them. Didn't like The Watchmen much. The first couple of Men In Black movies were good. Didn't care for the Captain America movies much. I liked the Sin City movies with their stylized visuals but they are not for viewers who don't like violence. The last Superman movie I saw was the one with Batman in it. It was okay I suppose. Usually I prefer a good horror/thriller or horror/sci fi movie but some of the fantasy movies are also good of course.

I watched Contagion years go and thought it was quite good and for some reason I was thinking of watching it again just as the pandemic news broke........weird.............

Not exactly a movie (though I think there are some movies about this topic), but I've been reading and watching documentaries about the Imperial Japanese Army's Unit 731- how have I never heard about this? I mean, I'm pretty familiar with the Nazi side of stuff (even visited Dachau), but I never knew the Japanese had their own version of Dr. Mengele.

Well anyway, here's one documentary, it's fascinating and probably an important piece of history to know about. But it's definitely not for the faint of heart!

I haven't heard much from the Japanese side either, usually history classes spend a lot more time with the Eastern Front. Even a American war book that has chapters of each war has less about the Western front. Not counting movies or games almost always focus on Eastern front.
