You certainly are a cinephile. You divert from the mainstream and have watched films I have never heard about in my life. Lol.

Thanks, but still i'm far from being a pro connoisseur. Some are crap and I lost some precious time of my life. :D

I really have to see Baraka and Samsara, some many years listening so many good things about them and they are stuck to my watchlist for years, specially Baraka.

In a similar vein I recommend you both watch Chronos if you haven't seen it. It's short-ish, by the cinematographor of the Qatsi films. Takes a less pessimistic view of things though, more of a celebration of human development.

Welcome to the Movie thread. Talk about movies here.

Best film about coffee anyway...classic stuff from Jim Jarmusch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6Mw6b1T50U

My kind of cafe :)

only lovers left alive by jj will be in my best films of the past decade.

best film is Adele Chaptres 1&2, then Once Upon A Time In Anatolia followed by White Ribbon.

New Yorker profoundly disliked my choices of OUATIA and the Haneke flick, so they can get rooted, hop that makes it thru the swear filter

Godzilla Movie

Not usually one for hollywood blockbusters but I thought this movie might be fun based on the trailer and the fact that it stars Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame.

It was pretty enjoyable actually, especially compared to the last american Godzilla movie. One of the coolest things about it in my opinion was the fact that Mothra was a big part of it. The ending was super cliche but I suppose thats just something one has to put up with when going to see a big budget blockbuster. Other than that they did a very good job of staying true to the original japanese format.

7/10
Worth watching for sure.

Anything by Guy Ritchie:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005363/

Pulp Fiction is good as well...the Wolf was great!

I second that. His movies all have that "rewatchability" qoutient. The Sherlock Holmes movies I can watch over and over and over. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a comedic masterpiece. He was often compared to Tarantino when he first came on the scene but for me he's far more talented a filmmaker. While his movies have a distinctive comedic quality about them that permeates through virtually every scene and everyone in the cast, Tarantino's seem to be a forced effort to be clever and important, often failing at both.

My list (there are so many that I likely left out!):

Bladerunner
Day of the Jackal
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes movies
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
The Incredibles
The Godfather 1 & 2
Dr. Strangelove
2001
The Bourne Trilogy
Bullitt
North by Northwest
Raising Arizona
The Big Lebowski
Elf
The Maltese Falcon
Casablanca
The Big Sleep
To Catch A Thief

I have to stop here. I may add more later. :)

I thought to catch a thief was a dateline series on catching thieves. Well it is. But what I mean is I thought that's all it was till I googled "to catch a thief" and saw it was a 50s movie.

Now I realize they named the dateline show after the movie and to catch a predator is probably based on that...learned something new.
Thanks.

I recently watched "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and have to say I found it hilarious, full of Wes Anderson's eclectic humour. It was a bit more LOL and mainstream than the likes of The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou but had that dark, quirky humour Anderson is well known for. Ralph Fiennes was excellent, as were the supporting cast, which was packed with A listers. one of my favourite movies this year.

Against my better judgement I watched Pompeii the movie. It was so **** that even a fight between Jack Bauer and Jon Snow was boring.

agreed.
Fiennes was Oscar worthy.

Moonrise Kingdom is great too, btw.

Wes Anderson is up there with the Coen Brothers and Paul Thomas Anderson (no family, i think).

Whoever wrote this deserves a raise.

Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.

He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most - from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.

– President Obama

Stunning and sad. Hopefully he's found his peace.

Goddammit to hell and back, another of the all time greats gone. Please God she is the last of the three that started with Jimmy Garner.

Lauren Bacall, 89, died of a stroke in her New York home.

On youtube there's a great bit of footage (ca. 10 mins) of Williams performing on "We are most amused" (a show hosted by john cleese) where he's absolutely lampooning George Bush and making some hilarious jokes about Obama as well.
