Liked. Usually what comes of Seattle is really good.
Not necessarily, hon, the Seattle music scene died when Kurt Cobain died. (I lived there at the time.)

The best music that was there at the time was actually being played in some shitty little bars that no one ever heard of. (Especially not MTV.)

Camera Obscura - Happy New Year

Quirky indie-pop in a similar vein to Belle and Sebastian, they were one of the many bands that I have fond memories of from my student days; brought back to my attention unfortunately due to the untimely death two days ago of keyboardist and backing singer Carey Lander from a rare form of bone cancer that had limited band activity in recent years. I've played this on January 1st pretty much every year for a decade, to at least kick off on an optimistic footing. Rest in peace Carey, thank you for the music.

Camera Obscura are amazing and the news about Carey are terrible, if not unexpected (she'd talked a bit about her cancer for her Just Giving campaign, which people can still contribute to, and she'd mentioned there was little hope for her anymore). I've been to two Camera Obscura shows and they're among my favourite music memories.

Before You Cry is still my favourite Camera Obscura song. I always loved the interaction between guitar and keyboard in the instrumental part.

Not entirely sure about GWAR (or their musical talents) - what do you think? (In terms of Halloween, I mean.)

GWAR "Let Us Slay"

They were entertaining, but musical talent...hhhm, In terms of Halloween they are great! Slipknot is touring again too (they're here next week).
