Well then, I'm sure you must have listened to Ted Nugent. If not, here's his Straglehold hit (tipped by RDV4ROUBAIX but without the link). The live version is one bloody good guitar solo, almost as good as the studio version:
Stranglehold - live
Stranglehold - studio version
Then there's always a little room for Edgar Winter Group – Free ride.

I can't let the 70's escape without a little Robin Trower, these from the Bridge Of Sighs cover:
Bridge of sighs(the old man still has it on guitar)
Day of the eagle
The fool and me
Too rolling stoned

Yep, Ted Nugent and Robin Trower are two great guitarists!

I like that. You like these?
Robert Plant – I’m in the mood
Robert Plant – Shine it all around
His Big Log is good too, which I posted before but here again:
Big Log

I do. Don't know whether it was posted before but talking about Robert Plant I like very much his album with Alison Krauss - Raising Sand (2007):

R.Plant & A.Krauss - Please Read The Letter

R.Plant & A.Krauss - Gone, Gone, Gone

R.Plant & A.Krauss - Trampled Rose

Folks, a question..what do you think about hip-hop?. I can listen to old school like rakim, ice t etc early gangsta rap upto eminem first album, not that i am a fan but i can listen to it.

The old School stuff is good, Public Enemy, KRS-1, Eric B, Ice Cube and probably a few others but I've gone off it recently and cant be bothered with rap anymore.

Not a fan except for Eminem. Don't know why, but 8 Mile made me a fan. How quick these guys can think on their feet in "battles" is quite amazing.

you can listen to it, although be careful because most of it is entirely unacceptable in polite society.

rakim, nwa, public enemy, BIG, Nas (illmatic is a fantastic album), jayz early stuff (reasonable doubt is easily his finest moment), raekwon, tribe called quest, daddy kane, gang starr, dead prez, black star (mos def and talib kweli), tupac

as a rule of thumb anything made in the last 10 years should be avoided.

exceptions NAS, talib kweli, eminem, akala (uk artist), mc marachal (brazilian), lowkey (political)

by no means an exhaustive list (i'm a fan of the uk grime scene at the moment)

as a general rule if you're passionate about any sort of music it's fine (but i cannot understand why anyone would be passionate about the likes of lil wayne (1 competent album) or anyone who has never made a song which didn't have a catchy female sung hook).

I'm wit Kvinto on this, lol. Though I do like some Eminem, but don't put his stuff in the hip-hop class. Eminem is RAP to me, but I spell most (but not all) RAP like this... cRAP. I'mSoSickWitIt. :D

For sure. Amazes me how smart Eminem is with language and, as you say, good at thinking on his feet. Plus, twisting pronounciations of words around to create a rhyme.

Like yourself I can appreciate some of the older stuff, specifically Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Public Enemy, Black Sheep, Tupac, Biggie Smalls but I think the problem I have with it currently is how intrusive it is by nature of the characters that feel it's their mission in life to share it with all in the general zip code of their vehicle! That and the extreme profane, violent and often pornographic nature of the lyrics. Living in an urban environment, the last thing I need is a constant reminder of what it's like.

On a recent cycling road trip, my fellow traveller brought along music (I rushed out and left mine at home). I'd say 80% of it was rap and his attraction to it was the absolute comedic nature of the lyrics and how they're presented and I had to concur. We laughed and rapped along for the entire trip! I think back to such artists as Biz Markie, the Fat Boys and others and their image was one of entertaining and telling a story about their experiences in a lighthearted manner, at least to the best of my limited recollection. Of course we can't expect all artists to be the same but the doom and gloom of some of these artist's personnas and their images on the cover of the hip hop specific mags is always one of trying to look as tough and hard as possible. Aren't there any good times to be had? How about a smile?:D
