I've never understood why he hasn't caught on in the US. Strange.

australia's best band over at least the past 15-20 years.

The Go-Betweens! Well, make that over the past 25-30 years.

The Lucksmiths are the second best Australian band, and Dead Can Dance number three (if they count as an Australian band).

Well, what do I know - I'm just a silly Scandinavian. I've actually never listened to Powderfinger, but the Crown Prince of Denmark is a big fan, so I guess that makes the band royal in some sorta way :)

ditto. he certainly has a US sized ego. he's 'peaked' as a phenomenon and is clinging on to the twilight of a career.

just got the local natives album 'gorilla manor' and i'm liking what i've heard so far.

Looking at sales, aria awards and the amount of people who go to their shows they are the best australian bands of the past 15-20 years.
16 Aria Awards
3 APRA Awards
2 Triple J Hottest 100's* #1 hits
10 Triple J Hottest 100's top 10's
My Happiness and These Days were put at #21 and #23 hottest songs of all time
5 x #1 Albums in Australia
For an australian act they have also broken records for their tour numbers.

I could keep going but i won't. Powderfinger's music appeals to people who like rock of all ages and some of there songs are lighter rock which appeals to a wider range of people. They have never released a song that hasn't been written by them.

We just downloaded the new Robbie Williams CD. It is different from what I expected, and I like it a lot.

Susan

It's different from what you expected because it's good? Sounds about right :p

I'm listening to some house music junk that someone in the office is playing. Ahh, office music politics...

Cheers

Buy the album Golden Rule by Powderfinger. The boys from brissie are back. They are australia's best band over at least the past 15-20 years.
For Aussies, the album has come out today but for internationals you can buy the album over the net or on Itunes

The first time I saw them they were supporting another great Aussie band You Am I, then a few years later I went to see them and You Am I were supporting them. Both as good as each other but they ae probably only in the top 10 of my favourite Aussie bands of the past 20 years.

6x #1 Albums
Over 2 million sales
16 Arias not good enough for you
They would be in the top 10 aussie bands of all time not just the past 20 years. Bernard Fanning's songwriting is second to none.

Says more about marketing than the music. Even so, You Am I have got a fair few Arias etc. They were good from the very first song recorded. Can't say the same for poweder finger as they needed to develop a bit. I hardly ever listen to their first album (Parables for wooden ears) copmapred to You Am I's first 4 eps on Sound as ever.

Like I say Powderfinger are good but Bernard being the best song writer ever??? As they say in the movies, you are dreaming.
