Lots of house music/electronic stuff. All when running or on the mountain bike, never on the road. I dj on the side, so after my regular job I need to listen to music to figure out what I am going to play, or what sucks, or what sucks but people will like, etc. So more often than not I listen to whatever was top 40 that week, or hot 100. Which kind of sucks lately, so my mountain biking days I limit that to things I know I like.

I don't listen to music when I ride because I need to concentrate on not getting hit by terrible Atlanta drivers. However, when I am driving I mainly listen to:

Massive Attack
Tricky
PJ Harvey
Radiohead
TV on the radio

Dr. Maserati

Do you guys (girls?) do anything special to maintain traffic-awareness while you have music in your ears.

I'd love to ride with music but Im afraid of blocking out car noise.

I actually have my music on while I ride on the road - I have found you get real good at maintaining a straight line!!

My music taste is very broad but the tiny 'shuffle' for going on a ride is filled with dance & trance music.

Listen to my ipod always while riding - find it indispensable for long rides. Can hear traffic perfectly well so not as concerned as others - turning the volume down or using only one ear bud for instance..... I ride in mostly rural areas though so I'm sure that makes a difference. Music depends on the mood or purpose - normal, easy rides = my "All Songs" playlist which means anything from Sepultura to Damian Rice. If I'm going hard I can't go past Tool.

Paolo Nutini, the second song is the best and if you Youtube him he does some astonishing covers and loads of original and thought revoking stuff. He will be bigger than Pelvis.

Radio Shack have ensured my no purchase of anything they sell after joining in with the force of Darkness. I may just change my mind if their new twin turn table time trial bike with electric wheels is any good.

Music would be fun on the road, but I like to be aware.

I use music on the road if riding alone. I live in a small town, so traffic is pretty easy to keep an eye on at the same time. You just need to use your eyes more when you can't rely on the ears to hear traffic behind you.

Most of the time I listen to Albinoni/Tartini/Locatelli/Vivaldi violin concertos, but the occasional Mozart or Salieri get play time as well.

It's frightening to think that list resembles a good portion of my CD collection. Maybe time to check myself in and make sure I don't foam at the mouth at night and post here as thoughtforfood.

+ a gazillion to the person who posted The Mermen. They, along with Bill Laswell's Sacred Dub Podcast, are my most favoritest riding music ever. There's a state park near here with ZERO (love that band too) traffic where I can listen to tunes and ride...

Joe Bonamassa

I expect that most, if not all, of you will say, 'who'? He's a 31 year old blues rock guitarist who I think has the potential to become the 'Clapton' of his age, at least as far as reputation is concerned. Joe is awesomely talented, even if you're not a fan of the genre known as 'blues rock'.

Joe is incredible. I was turned onto him on satellite radio, and love his stuff. The dude can play guitar like few can, and has a versatile voice. I am more partial to his more ricking stuff than his blues, but his version of "Sloe Gin" is chilling.

I have over 2400 songs on my iPod which I shuffle, but in my car right now I am spinning, Jeff Buckley's "Grace," Led Zep's "How the West Was Won," Sweet's "Greatest Hits" and "Desolation Boulevard," Ricky Warwick's "Belfast Confetti," Michelle Malone's "Sugarfoot," and The Beatles' "Let It Be."

If you like blues, check out "Sugarfoot."

Most of us every day cycle to work Dutch folk tend to have music on when we pedal. I'm guessing that a fair number of you more serious cyclists (or joggers) here listen to music while you're training or just riding. So why not have a music topic where we post what we like, what we're listening to (doesn't exclusively have to be music for on the bike), and maybe turn someone else on to something cool or get turned on to something new?

Sounded like a good idea to me anyway. I'll start off with my main man (there's a really cool story behind this but I'll save it for when/if this topic takes off), Joe Bonamassa

I expect that most, if not all, of you will say, 'who'? Joe is awesomely talented, even if you're not a fan of the genre known as 'blues rock'. Joe inhabits the same world as people like Walter Trout, Sonny Landreth, the Allman Brothers, Warren Haynes (Govt. Mule), the late Stevie Ray Vaughan and many others. I urge you to check him out if you're at all a fan of this kind of music.

His website - http://www.jbonamassa.com/ has loads of samples and free music and there is tons of his stuff on youtube. I'll happily recommend songs to start with if anyone is interested.

I listen to Joe practically every day. I absolutely love his stuff! Discovering Joe's music changed my life. No ****. I also listen to Michael Burks, Bonnie Raitt, Dana Fuchs and many others whom none of you will have heard of!

But hey, whatever your taste, whatever you're listening to that you'd like to share because it's just so good, post it here and let's see where it takes us.

walter trout is a friend of mine, right now i'm listening a guy named john trollmann. http://www.johntrollmann.com/fr_index.cfm
