These are two awesome supergroups. The first one was constructed by former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith and a guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani; whereas second band is the result of collaboration of John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age).

Why, is it not possible to think "hmmm, Van Halen, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Satriani... wait, those all absolutely suck"?

Maybe the Chilis made a couple of half decent records back in the early 90s but they needed to retire about a decade ago. Van Halen belong in the 80s, where they only suck the same as any other hair metal band rather than on a whole other level (seriously, how the hell could people make that stuff seriously after Spinal Tap?). Joe Satriani, on the other hand, has never done anything good for music in his life.

Being a musician is not being able to play incredibly complex things. Being a musician is being able to play those things, but also knowing that you don't have to. Satie's Gymnopédies were very simple musically in comparison to the great Baroque fugues. They didn't have to be. They sound close enough to perfect as they are.

Hey, some Dave Pajo in there! My favourite of his has always been "Arundel". So simple, so barren, sparse, so beautiful.

take a notice, i didn't make an attempt to object the possibility that Van Halen + RHCP + Satriani may suck in your (or any others) opinion, i just highly appreciate the way it was said. that's what i meant saying "unexpected".
