don't believe anything the italians say. especially in media. see the pathetic paduva case, which I called bs on almost 2 years ago and it is. it's always attention seeking bs. rai and gazzetta are prime examples of this(di luca begging for gods mercy by a priest)
This isn't the Italian press (which I agree is ridiculous), it's the Giro PR. And in the past it's always been pretty reliable.

Yeah should be pretty reliable, it would be pretty embarrassing if they themselves got it wrong, and I think they've guaranteed his participation through some kind of incentive (as stated above). Possibly a marketing fee, possibly the choice of a more favourable route.

Okay, well then Quintana's most recent media statements (that we know of) - published today on various websites - don't make any sense.

Andy only launched one attack, and Evans was more of a climber than Porte should be.

One sustained attack. He and his brother tried on other stages but stopped trying pretty quickly. Still could not understand why Frank did not attack Evans on the Galibier instead of waiting until the last 300 metres. Frank looked fresh at the finish and Cadel had been on the front on his own the entire climb or most of it. Maybe he thought he wasn't going to drop Evans and did not want the gap to Andy reduced even more. They just played into Evans hands and seemed to worry more about Contador.

Wiggins also said last year that he hadn't decided which GT to do, despite everyone knowing the giro was his target.

Latest round on twitter and media sites says what has been said first time - he wants to do Giro BUT no final decision and to be decided mid december at the first camp.

Well yes, that was exactly what I was referring to. Hence my comment of it being inconsistent with the definite statement "Yes, I'll be at the Giro" - something only the Giro's PR department claimed Quintana said.

Why not? Up until the 2012 Vuelta Quintana only did well in **** small races as a pro

Which says nothing considering the amazing way he won the Tour l'Avenir the year before.

Also, the small ****ty races you speak about contained the Dauphine Libere where he beat the entire Sky train on his own. Much more impressive than anything I'd see Pinot do.
Plus the way he won Murcia and Route du Sud were prety commanding.

Ofcourse if your only results focus you would be dumb enough to think Pinot was more talented. But the style of races won said it all really

You mean the Sky train going just about fast enough not to blow Rogers up.

Pinot seeming to be the second strongest rider in the queen stage of his first GT is much more impressive.

Yeah but all the experts here knew Quintana would better Pinot's 10th place in his first GT.

If you are being sarcastic, bear in mind Quintana went in as 100% domestique with at least 2 clear leaders ahead of him and had to drop back to Valverde already on the 4th day on the race while Pinot went in as total leader.

I dont think it's necessary remember Quintana rides on a TOP team and Pinot does it in a squad that in 16 years have never had NOBODY playing the GT'S GC. Casar... be serious :)

Their careers are quite similar until Quintana arrives at Movistar... equal talents Imho.

I know how the first GT went for Quintana. He showed amazing skills on the 3rd week specially. I still don't make a direct association with him coming 2nd in the Tour the year after, like many people here now claim to know.

It wasn't only that. It was Morzine 2012, third week in La Vuelta 2012, Pais Vazco 2013, Vuelta a Cataluna 2012. At that point people were already thinking big things. Not only La Vuelta like you said. I forgot that race in the mountains in France for youngsters in 2012. There was a huge gap between him and the other young riders.

The big thing that made Sky think about him in the Tour was that defeat to Porte in the Pais Vazco. That put him on the radar big time IMHO.

I bet a lot of cycling fans were already thinking big after L'Avenir 2010, where he just crushed the field with his climbing abilities. Only a blind one couldn't see his 'Tour-winning potentials' after that.
