With all due respect, those guys aren't EBHs, so to speak.

Although I don't see what would be the higher risk of a crit race as opposed to the nationals.
Bunch of amateur hopefuls speeding around a city center, risking everything for the win since they don't have a chance in the road race? And even if you come out on top you don't get to wear the national champs jersey anyway.

Hmmm Taaramae still not really there I guess? He TT'd decent in the nats, beaing Kangert and all, but not being able to keep up with Kangert here doesn't promise much for the TDF. Too bad for Taaramae :(

Nice for Kangert though; he struggled with pfeiffer in the past too I think? Now he's back on the right track this season!

He was right there in the last climb and attacked but couldn't respond to Kangert's counter... Taaramäe showed that he is on the right track to me and he can only get better

I agree. Plus I think it's nice that the shirts went to different riders.

Any idea when's the first time we can see Kanger wearing it?

His first win since the 2009 Giro d'Italia.

Has he ever raced the Russian championships before?

Really can't determine anything about his form from that performance.

Well, Gusev was 4-th in Bayern-Rundfahrt and 12-th in Tour de Suisse and lost 1.00 to Kessiakoff, today he lost more to Denis. I believe his form getting better

Kaykov mostly track rider. I believe he was in top 3 in some world cup events few years ago. 4km is his main discipline.

So Gusev was racing? Is there a startlist somewhere?

I suppose it's a good win then if Menchov beat all of them by over a minute.
Good for him, that he'll wear the Russian flag for a year, but the question is what was his average speed?

Comparing average speeds is useless.
The courses, the weather, etc, everything is different.

Only good comparisons would be wattage output and power vs aerodynamic drag comparisons...

Even recreational cyclists like me know that average speeds are a pretty useless comparison for benchmarking. I've had fantastic riders at lower averages than crappy rides on the same course. Just because the wind is different already

If you don't know the weather conditions and the terrain, what's the point of asking about average speed?

Edit: Dekker_Tifosi explained it better. Power and power v drag.

Still seems like a good sign. First time in 11 years that Menchov has done the nat. ITT champs and he beats everyone by a minute. Seems like a good last TT prep race before the tour. Hope to see him shine there.

Menchov's average speed 46.5km/hour over 45km. If conditions were normal and this was a flat TT, then 57:58 was a bad time. Anybody has more info on the course and weather conditions?

These days in Italy we're having very high temperatures and humidity but for tomorrow the weather forecast talks about storm/rain on the RR route so the guys who suffer the heat might still be part of the game.

Looking at pros time-trialling against local amateurs at these national champs I wonder how much time advantage they get just from better equipment - bikes, wheels, helmets...
Or are there no real differences in their equipment?
