The report as of last night is that Allen's UCL isn't torn, but he essentially has a bad elbow sprain that dinged some of the nerves in there. His practice as been very limited, and Case Keenum has taken all 1st team snaps. From what I can read, the issue is if the area around the UCL is weakened, and/or the UCL itself, a hard hit could end his season. My gut says they will rest Allen a couple weeks, but who knows? Agree they can afford 1-2 losses, considering they hold the tie breaker over the Chiefs. Though both teams could finish 14-3, honestly.

Good post Nomad on the dual-threat QB of today. I think Allen is faster than Elway was, but similar pocket movement, play extension and super strong arm, indeed.

As I said in my last post, QBs of the future will be in two overlapping camps: The Mahomes, Allen camp, where they throw a lot, but move a lot and can run if needed. You could put Tua, Burrow, and Geno Smith in here too. And the pass/runners like Jackson, Hurts, perhaps now Fields, and for 49er fans, hopefully Lance. I see a slew of QBs coming out of college this way. Stoud fits into the first group, Young in the latter, etc. This is the future. The days of pocket QBs like Brady, Rodgers, Jones, Garappolo, Stafford, etc. are fading. Just look at ESPN's QBR ratings for this season to get a glimpse at not the future, but now:

I'd agree on the future trend from the college ranks but, considering the inve$tment in most starting QBs it's not something the OC should use much. Mahomes is more conservative as is Geno and that's a sensible option. Tua, if he can string a thought together, should limit his exposure (although his big concussion was close to the pocket). It's hard to be a pocket offense with the size and amazing speed almost all defenders possess.
Seattle is doing well on offense largely because their TE are big, willing to block and can catch balls anywhere. Thankfully the Jimmy Graham era left along with Russell 'cause it was all hype.

I was listening to a local sports talk show where they had a MLB trainer on who said if Allen was a pitcher he'd be shut down 2-3 weeks & reevaluated at that point. He said the UCL is the key ligament in the elbow that allows the throwing motion of the arm whether you're throwing a football, baseball, javelin, etc.

Remember when Big Ben tore his UCL from just a simple routine throw - season ending with a long, meticulous rehab where he was really never the same in that final comeback season of his career.

Oooh, had forgot about Graham. Ouch. Seattle gave up Max Unger, and a 1st round pick (turned out to be Stephone Anthony, who fizzled out at NO), but Unger was named to the Pro Bowl. Graham's productivity dropped off by a third to half once on Seattle, was often injured, and correct, he wasn't a blocking TE. To Seattle's credit, that's the year they drafted Tyler Lockett, as well as Frank Clark, who played well but was traded to KC in a big mix of picks back and forth, including LJ Collier, who is still with the team.

Losing Unger was one of the worst decisions the team made. Not quite as bad as letting Steve Hutchinson walk to Minnesota, to pay an aging Shaun Alexander. Hutch would play four straight pro-bowl seasons for Minnesota and end up in the HOF regarded as one of the best guards in history. Alexander lasted merely a few games before being hurt, resting, having one great game in the snow, then fading and never playing the same.

Panthers win a pretty ugly game. They lose their coach and best offensive weapon and suddenly start playing better ! Falcons are showing that they might provide spoiler value in the tail end of the season but not much else. Mariota had one of his hit and miss games.

It’s be funny if they made the playoffs considering they could have the head to head tie breaker over TB and ATL. And all with the backup quarterback.

On the plus side I can watch the TB vs SEA game, and honestly I’d rather see them try a play action or flea flicker deep shot to Miller. I’m tired of every game and basically first down running for no yards. Everyone is expecting it.

The local guy sounds sensible. And then there's the Fox sportscaster Nick Wright suggesting he should do everything he can to play....that'd it be "insane to rest him if he could go..."

What's he going to do? Throw no passes? This is where the QB needs to seek his own counsel as well as team interests if he suspects a serious injury outcome. Sportscasters are good at forecasting what already happened.

Tyler Lockett, arguably one of the NFL's gutsiest players and injured off/on this season finally responded to fans who think he pointlessly dodges hits:

“A lot of people could call you soft or whatever the case is, but they don’t understand the things that we see when you’re done playing football. When people talk about CTE or people talk about injuries and having to get all these different surgeries after they’re done. Everybody wants you to put your body on the line.”

It’s easy for fans to complain from their couches about plays like that. However, one must remember that these players are still human, and prioritize their safety over everything else. Besides, this style of play by Lockett has been extremely beneficial to the Seahawks: he’s barely missed a game for them over the last few years (despite nursing some injuries as of late).

He's taken plenty of routes over the middle and been hit hard. This for a guy who is promoted at 5'10" and 182lbs. He looks more like 170. Contrast that to Julien Edelman at 5'10", 198 lbs and maybe better suited to the abuse. Edelman is out of the game at 35; it would be interesting to hear his honest take on the lingering effects he sustained.

IMO, the way he gets down is good for both short and long term. There's nothing impressive about taking a big hit and missing the rest of the game, the rest of the season, ending a career.

Rams v Cards could go either way. Both QBs are questionable and both offenses have struggled. Cards in a close one.

49ers v Chargers has the 49ers at their healthiest for the season so far and the worst run defense in the league has to stop Mitchell, McCaffery and Deebo with some of the best Chargers defenders still missing. 49ers still have to limit Ekeler and Henry but the 49ers on paper should win. A loss would be a blow for the 49ers against a beaten up Chargers team.

The Cowboys should put another nail in Green Bay's coffin. A loss by the Cowboys would be a huge upset at this point.

The big question for the Bills v Vikings match up is whether Josh Allen makes it on the field. Either way, a tough game for the Bills based on the past few weeks. Think the Vikings can win it.

On current form the Hawks should be too strong for the Bucs. Carroll is probably the right coach to exploit the Bucs weaknesses. Don't think TB can save this one.

And of course TB starts with a run up the middle that goes nowhere, followed by a drop, and incomplete.

A lot of Seahawk fans in Germany as well.

Though by the half both sides of the ball started playing like how they were thought to be. Offense started moving the ball. Only complaint would be Miller jumping to catch a wide open pass when staying on his feet would have been a touchdown but they scored anyways. Sharpe said last week Miller doesn’t trust his hands and needs his body for all of the catches and watching him play it’s true.

It’s funny that no matter what team the flag or big play happens there’s always a big cheer from the crowd. They’re just there having fun.

Josh Allen kicking a*s all over the field, 1st Qtr. Doesn't seem to have any limitations whatsoever.

Unreal end to 2nd Qtr! Buffalo holds Cousins to consecutive non-receptions with 1 yd to go. Josh takes the first broken play for 20+ yd gutsy run and follows up with 4 consecutive passes for a TD. Nothing wrong with him for now. Vikings defense was scrambling to keep up on that drive.

Just checked the score. WTH happened to the Hawks ?
Honestly, Buccaneers offense finally showed up to the 2022 season. Don’t let the score fool you. Besides the first two drives going like the rest of the year with the three and out punt (already talked about) and the second when they had a big play and then penalties and short yards to miss the field goal, they looked like the 2021 Buccaneers. They started moving the ball at will running and passing. Only reason Seattle didn’t end up down 3 scores was for some reason TB got extremely cute trying to throw a touchdown to Brady when they had been moving the ball. Seattle defense then had a big interception in which the defense won the play on Bucs second to last drive, with the last Bucs could have scored again but decided to run out the clock. Without the cheese trick play they could have reached 30 points. Hopefully they can keep how they played as this was the best the oline and run game has looked all year. Stinks Brady couldn’t save the interception till completing 4 more passes.

I also really enjoyed the German crowd. It sounded like a very cheerful environment and they had a lot of fun. There’s a report that after the teams left the field no one in the stadium left and they were signing karaoke.

Packers with a huge win and spoiler to the Cowboys when many were writing them off. Rodgers might own majority of the Bears but he still has his small ownership of Dallas.

Dolphins are still rolling and I actually think they can win the division compared to the start of the year being a wild card. Their offense is showing to be explosive in the pass and run, performing past everyone’s expectations. I think they’re top 3 offense with Chiefs and Bills in AFC. What stinks for their 1 seed quest is Tua getting injured as I think they could have won one or two of the games he missed.

Reading @Oldermanish post before falling asleep I thought Bills were going to run away with the win only to wake up and Vikings won!!! Crazy how they completely fell apart in the second half. Huge win for Vikings to pull even further away from GB and fight for 1 seed.

Chiefs looked really good. They’re coming along very nicely and looking a lot better than last year and post Hill.

Saturday with his first win and Raiders falling farther and farther apart! Some people are just not meant to be head coaches.

Chargers at Niners is looking to be a good game.

The irony of Jeff Saturday coaching the Colts to a win over the Raiders is that the Raiders last season had a coach similar to Saturday in Rich Bissacia, no HC experience, but the team played like heck for him. Raiders press conference was like a funeral.

There's no way the Vikings should have beaten the Bills, but they somehow did. What a crazy game. The fact the Bills couldn't finish them off may be pivotal for their season. If you look at their schedule they could win out, with two "revenge" games against the Jets and Dolphins. Or, they could lose a few games and struggle to make the playoffs somehow.

Packers offense comes alive!

Surprised Seattle couldn't run, and credit to the Bucs for finding what it took. Heroic effort by Geno late. I remember when the WLAF was in Europe and there were more football fans in Germany than England. So it's great to see an NFL game there, finally.

I was someone who said the Rams would not repeat. But in no way did I ever see them at 3-6. Their season as dismal as the Raiders at this point.

Giants quietly move to 7-2. Dolphins to 7-3. Chiefs unsurprising at 7-2.

Great win for Detroit. Fields some amazing plays though, almost pulled it out.

Bears definitely got hosed last week by the appalling refereeing and in both games Fields was very good.. No wonder he's downcast

Rams look done and dusted. Packers surprised me as did the Bucs. Knew the Vikings game would be close. Detroit fans have something to smile about it. Colts get it done for the new coach.

49ers finally wore down the Chargers but the Chargers lost players during the game as well as their already weakened defense and put a up a great defensive effort under the circumstances. The game came down to a handful of plays. Chargers blew some opportunities in the first half and the 49ers struggled to finish off the Chargers in the second half. Once again Shanahan's play calling was pretty bland especially in the red zone. With all that field position and time with the ball they have to convert into TDs more often. 49ers secondary looked mediocre in the first half but they adjusted in the second half and Herbert struggled. Maybe the hit he took to the head also had an effect but he was cleared to return.

Let's hear it for Saturday! Though it's only the Raiders - Saturday, with only a week's practice to prepare as a HC , comes in & beats the Raiders on the road. And what a call he made at the last minute starting Ryan over Ehlinger. Irsay gave the game ball to Saturday & deflecting the attention, he immediately gave game balls to every player. He's got great locker room presence & you get a sense of respect from every player in that locker room. Let's see how the rest of the season goes & whether or not he can turn the team around. There's still a lot of football to be played.

Very exciting Bills - Vikings game. Probably one of the most exciting 4th quarters I've seen in decades. Guys playing their heart out & earning those millions. The Bills should have won - that's on Allen for throwing that stupid pick & letting the team down. He was in the driver's seat to punch in a TD in the closing minutes of the OT only to blow it. The ball wasn't tipped or deflected. He can't be making those kinds of mistakes if he wants to be an elite QB in the league.
