It's suppose to be a balmy 50 degrees with sunny skies for that great matchup between your Raiders & the Broncos. Wow...what a game: Hackett vs McDaniels, Wilson vs Carr (which team is going to play to lose? Lol). I'll be so pumped Sunday in anticipation of this stellar game I won't be able to keep myself composed. :p

Meanwhile, things are looking interesting in Buffalo. I say play the game even if there won't be a full house because of transportation issues. I'm sure there will still be plenty of diehards that will drive a snowmobile, cross-country ski, skate, etc, to the stadium. Buffalo fans, along with GB, are probably the toughest in the league.

The greater undertone to the Broncos prolific losing could impact the NFC West for a few years: the Rnd 1 draft picks the Seahawks have for this pending draft are in the top 40 with a projected #5 first pick. Considering what their later round picks are accomplishing now this could set the tone for that Division.

KC/Chargers!!!!! You knew you were going to feel sorry for one of the teams and I couldn't help but thinking that the Chargers were inside the KC 30 yd line with 2 minutes remaining....or something like that. KC had plenty of time to get the FG, which they passed on (pun intended) to the Man, Mr. Kelce. Great end to that game.

have fallen in Orchard Park, NY where the Bills stadium is located and more is forecast.
I want the hot chocolate concession.

reason for edit: snow keeps falling
My in-laws have fled Chautauqua for Waccabuc. They usually winter in Waccabuc anyway because my brother in-law loves Manhattan during the holidays. Back to football...

Both KC and LAC SHOULD be amazing teams, but rarely look amazing. LAC has been/is missing some key players (plus Hurbert's ribs), KC?

Part of me thinks that KC can't make it very far into the playoffs playing like they do, but then again, there's no reason that they can eek out wins then too. Smart for KC to kick those 3 field goal instead of going for it on 4th. The new #10 is looking good!

If DAL can bottle that sauce, they will easily win the SB this year!

Lots of people called for Mike McCarthy's head after the Cowboys went out early in the playoffs last season. That's all gone quiet now and Dan Quinn has the defense humming along.

The fact that a division rival isn’t expecting the pick play to Kelce’s last touchdown is crazy. That’s been the Chiefs bread and butter for years. Chargers just shot themselves too many times in the foot while Chiefs hummed away. I wish MIA and KC played in the regular season.

Not only will the Wilson trade have impact on NFCW but worse for AFCW with no draft space and two of the teams looking terrible. I didn’t think McDaniel would be a good coach but thought Carr and Adams could overcome with close wins while Broncos are showing they were better off not changing their quarterback. There was a stat I saw that if Broncos scored at least 18 points in their games they’d be 8-1 while Lock scored 20 per game last year. AFCW is looking to turn into everything everyone talked bad about for the AFCE.

Statistically: points, yards, yards per play, Denver still has one of the best defenses in the NFL. That's why I said what I did about Wilson. Something is completely WAY off with him, and their entire offense. Yes, they lost receivers. Yes, Hackett is probably a poor HC. Maybe Russ is using audibles some players don't know. Maybe his ego is too big. Maybe he's hurt and we don't know it. Maybe all those. But it can't just be one single thing.

Jeff Saturday played center for the Colts for 12 of his 14 years in the NFL. Lately he's been working for ESPN, often on Get Up.
I actually knew that. I was being smarmy. After all the people saying Jim Irsay should never have hired him, he wasn't qualified at all, etc.
The greater undertone to the Broncos prolific losing could impact the NFC West for a few years:
Yes. If you look at Seattle, they already appear to have a bright future. Could probably use a new edge rusher. Irvin is playing surprisingly well, love his attitude, but he's also in the twilight of his career. IF it looks like Adams returns healthy next year, their DBs will be the new LOD, but they could use a pick at CB or S. The OL is young, and there may be some depth issues. Similar with the LB core. But all these are fairly minor "holes", ones Schneider/Carroll can likely fill in rounds 3, 4, 5, or pick up a good vet in FA. To have as many high picks as they have coming up could make this extremely easy to fill. Also, they are in terrific cap position in the future. They can easily franchise or transition tag Geno if they want for example, and afford him without worry. This Seattle team looks similar to where they were in 2011, 2012.
Part of me thinks that KC can't make it very far into the playoffs playing like they do, but then again, there's no reason that they can eek out wins then too. Smart for KC to kick those 3 field goal instead of going for it on 4th. The new #10 is looking good!
Agree exactly. Those FGs were very smart coaching by Reid, again, always. On any given drive Mahomes is the MVP, without a doubt. He can beat anyone. But the lack of consistency in the team as whole just makes you wonder if they can stack back to back to back wins against solid teams come playoff time?

Feel similar about Baltimore. At times they look great, and stifle other teams. They are almost in the driver's seat in the AFC North, and have a favorable schedule. but even if they finish 13-4, can they beat, say, Miami, Buffalo, KC, three games in a row? Then win the SB? Even if they get the bye I have a hard time seeing that.

The Broncos gave Russell Wilson a five year $242.5 million extension. OUCH.

I simply don't believe that Wilson will continue to play at this level but when will the switch up happen ? Maybe not this season.

Funny how things turn out at least in the short term. Washington were about to sign Jimmy G but pulled out when his shoulder op was announced. Instead they signed Wentz ! But now they have Heinicke who's playing better than Wentz who they didn't have to sign anyway. Jimmy G is possibly having his best season ever and not many teams showed interest, but if Lance hadn't got injured and Shanahan hadn't decided to hang onto Jimmy, the 49ers season may have looked much different at the moment.. But as all of these teams know its easy to see everything in hindsight. Wentz may yet end up as the back up he's promised to be, Jimmy is still in the running for another good season and Heinicke is showing promise. Denver as often with their QB choices are the odd ones out but that doesn't mean it will continue that way even though Wilson was showing signs of a drop off, many teams showed interest in signing him and it could change soon but this season is looking doubtful and if Jimmy goes deep in the playoffs again will the 49ers let him go ? Considering what they paid to get Lance, I think only a SB win keeps him at the 49ers but first the 49ers have to secure a playoff spot.. Looking at the games ahead, a loss to the Cards in Mexico would not help them. They still have to play Miami and the Bucs and have another two divisional games. They could end up in a similar situation to last season where they have to win the final game to make it through.

I thought the Raiders would definitely improve this season, same with Denver.

99% sure Hackett gets fired on Black Monday, when the season is done. Same with GM Paton (who made the brilliant trade for Wilson). Remember, the Walton group bought the Broncos after both Hackett and Paton were hired. They have plenty of money to just clean house, pay everyone, and start over with whomever they want. The only person I can see keeping his job is president Damani Leach, who was hired after the dust settled, and after the Wilson trade. But the Broncos will be starting over with Wilson at QB. Even if he was dropping off from his best Seattle days, this is like falling off a cliff. No way he's all of a sudden this bad. Like I said, if you watched him play on Sunday it become apparent that several things are wrong with him, and their entire offense.

I think Jimmy G may be gone even if SF wins the SB. Look what happened with Nick Foles in Philadelphia. Is Garapollo better than Foles? Maybe. But whenever Nick was in an Eagles uniform (and healthy) he was about as good, if not better. I see SF thanking Jimmy, and by next season, moving forward presuming Trey is healthy. This of course makes Jimmy a very coveted FA. Could he end up in, say...New England?

Wow. This 49er team looks like they will be very hard to beat. I looked at their schedule and while I doubt they'll win HFA, they, like Dallas, are going to be a hard out for anyone. Both teams have super run games, and solid defenses. A potent combo for late season and playoff wins. Three potential tough games remain for SF: Miami at home on Dec 4. (Fins are 7-0 in games Tua has finished, including wins over Buffalo and Baltimore), Tampa on Dec. 11, and @ Seattle on the 15th.

The 49ers have two bad losses, and one messy loss this year (Denver, JG's first start). The bad losses were double digits to both Atlanta, and KC. They got in a hole, their defense somehow got overwhelmed, and they could never catch up. That's what I think the recipe will be to beat them. But the 49ers as a team are playing better now than anytime all season. Plus they now have CM, and JG is playing as good as ever, especially in the clutch, 3rd and long for example, which had been a weakness of his in the past.

Here's my Way Too Early stab at ESPN's playoff machine. Give it a whirl if you dare!

You may be right if Hackett can't turn it around and win say 4 or 5 out of their last 7 games. They have some teams they're capable of beating with the Panthers, Cardinals & Rams. But they still have to play KC twice plus the Chargers & Ravens. So, it looks like a tough challenge ahead at this point to win 4 or 5 games.

Interestingly, there's been numerous coaches fired after just 1 year over the last 30 yrs or so (i.e. "one & done"). The vast majority have had poor records of 4 or less wins. Surprisingly, 3 coaches have been fired after going 8-8: Hue Jackson (Raiders), Marty Schottenheimer (Redskins) & Ray Rhodes (Packers).

Certainly the clock starts ticking on Hackett as he tries to save his job. He turned over play calling to QB coach Klint Kubiak which really wasn't that impressive against the Raiders. We'll see if he can do better this week against the Panthers. And Melvin Gordon was given the boot this week. So, the top 2 RBs that were supposed to carry the workload & make things happen is a disaster - one lost to a season-ending ACL & the other waived...crazy.

One thing killing the Broncos is the exceptionally high number of injuries particularly IR-level injuries - consequently leading the league. It's nothing short of catastrophic on offense losing Patrick, Bolles, Williams, Cushenberry, Hammler & Beck. Jeudy has missed some games & he & Hammler are Wilson's deep threats. The receiving corps & OL is in disarray. Depth is bad & none of the reserves has stepped up & made an impact thus far.

First time Jimmy G has gone three games without throwing an interception and the third time he has thrown for four TDs . When he plays a clean game and the offense finds a rhythm, they are a much better team. Since the early season issues when he started out rusty after barely having a training camp and recovering from his shoulder op, his form has been building. He's in the best form of his career and the 49ers will need that looking ahead. The Miami and Bucs games will be a good test for them leading up to the playoffs and if they beat Seattle they will sweep their division as I doubt the Cardinals will win their rematch even if Murray plays. Getting all those players back also made a difference. This is the best they have been all season with injuries but they would love to get a healthy Armstead back soon which maybe a stretch as he has plantar fasciitis and a hairline fracture of the shin while Kinlaw has a chronic knee problem and Ebukam has achilles issues. Ebukam seems the most likely to return but their offense is fully fit for a change.

I honestly think Hackett will be one and done even if they have a winning record. Same with Paton. We'll see though.

IIRC Hue Jackson and Mark Davis never saw eye to eye. The team had been sloppy and inconsistent under Tom Cable, and Jackson convinced Reggie McKenzie (then GM) and Davis he would turn that all around. But the team was worse, and had the most penalties in NFL history, including I believe the most false starts and/or delay of game penalties. Jackson was simply a terrible head coach, a flim-flam man (later verified in Cleveland). He left the team an absolute mess. Not that Dennis Allen was that much better, Allen was dealt a fairly rotten hand, with the team deep in the hole of dead money as well.

Cowboys are on track to beat the Giants. Detroit lost a narrow one. Playoff hopeful teams will be concerned about facing an improving Lions team. Patriots/Vikings could be the most interesting game of the week just for the clash of styles and offense. Falcons game could also be an interesting one with the Commanders. The Hawks, 49ers and Eagles should win their match ups but it's the NFL after all !

Enjoyed all three games. The most interesting to me was the last. At varying times of the Viking-Patriot game it looked like one team, then the other, was certain to win. But it came down to the near end. Both teams played hard.

Buffalo earned that win over a very improving Detroit team. But the Bills are similar to what I wrote about KC. It seems like they can beat anyone in the NFL. But there are games, quarters, drives, that make me think someone just as easily could knock them off.

Dallas had to dig deeper than they probably thought on offense. But their defense just looks superb.
