Look for Steelers to draft a QB in round 2.
And that could be Tyler Shough:

I was listening to a scout/QB analyst saying if it wasn't for his bad injury history mainly the major leg fracture, Shough would be QB1. The scout said he has the strongest & most talented arm out of this class. But since mobile pocket passers/dual-threat QBs are in vogue now, any hint of sub-par agility/mobility is a big knock on a prospect.

If I were the Steelers I'd go with Rudolph over Rodgers. Seriously. The head games he's going to play, or already is playing, where they eagerly await his decision, like they should be blessed to have him, is just ridiculous. Steelers should have just gone with Fields, but I bet they couldn't match the money the Jets are paying him. If I were Tomlin I would be telling everyone in the building that as soon as Rodgers calls, tell him "sorry, we've decided to go another direction". Let Rodgers stew on that.

Broncos spending a lot of money in FA. They must think they can make a deep playoff run in 2025 or 2026.

Seahawks overpaid for Kupp, IMO.

Then again, this FA season it seems everyone is overpaying.

Payton expects a deep playoff run this year. I heard him on an interview state the goal for the Broncos was a division title & home playoff games. He said with Nix's successful rookie season "we've found the player that can lead us." Payton said he's looking for receiver upgrades for the 2025 season.

On Rudolph - do you think he could be the guy to get the Steelers back in SB contention? Granted, he's only had 13 starts in a couple years there going a respectable 8-4-1. However, Tomlin must have been disappointed after Rudolph lost his one & only playoff game - WC game against Buffalo where they got hammered - because he was released & didn't return for the 2024 season (remember Pickett was also sent on his way for disagreeing with Tomlin's decision to start Rudolph over him for that playoff game). So, in one sweeping move Tomlin sent packing 1st & 3rd rd QBs.

I think the issue haunting Tomiin is the last playoff game the Steelers won was way back in 2016 with Big Ben at the helm. And of course, this past season was another failure with an early exit out of the playoffs with Wilson.

$40m to sit on the bench! 9 times the amount Penix will make to start! Great run organization, the Falcons. o_O

No! But who else are they going to get? You can't possibly think Rodgers is going to lead them to anything, can you? And Wilson is about finished. He has like one pass left, the moon ball, and a few screens. There's no one else! Unless they trade up to get Ward or Shedeur maybe?

This will be like the 4th year in a row the Steelers will be playing with a 2nd string QB as their QB1.
...chiefs replacing carson wentz with beloved-ex-pro bowler...
"Beloved". Guy was total garbage on the Raiders. Played scared the entire time, and did a great job at forcing throws. In fact, this play here was such a horrible decision, such a terrible throw, it turned the Raiders season around 180 degrees, from hope to losing 10 games in a row.

I woke up at 0500 to this early April Fools article of Hill being traded back to the Chiefs. I was shocked and wondering what the heck is going on. Still could happen, or a different high end receiver. Chiefs just extended Juju’s contract but they need a great number one. Rice and Brown are good and Worthy is a good top burner and underneath but if Kelce or Grey don’t have increased production they don’t have a true number one. If the oline is as bad or worse and their run production is poor the offense is going to struggle again. At minimum I think Kelce should try to be played even more sparingly than Gronk in 2020.

Not likely. Chiefs are short on cap space after spending more money to bolster their OL, and they are stuck with Kelce's fat contract at $19m for next year. They did however re-tool Mahomes to help mitigate cap space, paying him some $28m against the cap in 2025, which will rise to $73m next season.

With the way teams are burning through FA money this off-season like there is no tomorrow (on some average players, none the less), I wouldn't count anything out though.

Of course I don't think Rodgers could lead them to anything meaningful. How many times have I said on here that Rodgers should retire & ride off into the sunset. He could then be a full-time guest on McAfee's gig & we wouldn't have to watch him play anymore. Lol

But the question is what's Tomilin bringing Rudolph back as? Backup? Or has Tomlin had second thoughts & wants to give him another chance as a starter? Wasn't Rudolph supposed to be the heir apparent to Big Ben? He was drafted in the high 3rd rd in 2018 (they actually traded up a few spots to get him) with a decent 6.2 rating ("Will Eventually Be Average Starter"). He has Big Ben type size but no way near the arm strength. He's also slow & not very mobile. He sat a few years under Big Ben but was never given a full year at the helm. WithTomlin drafting Pickett in the 1st rd in 2022, there went any vote of confidence for Rudolph. Last year at Tennessee he started 5 games for the injured Levis. He went 1-4 with a 1 to 1 TD/INT ratio (9/9) finishing with a not so good 80 passer rating.

On Minshew - no sense in getting angry with him. He was drafted in the 6th rd as a backup with a low backup rating of 5.6 ("Candidate For Bottom Of Roster Or Pactice Squad"). Though he hasn't been on any practice squads, he's definitely been on the bottom of the 53 man rosters. He didn't do anything when he started several games at Jacksonville for the injured Foles. And he didn't do anything with those starts he had there at the Raiders. This isn't unexpected with these low-grade backups --- so don't let it bother you. Lol. If Minshew signs with the Chiefs that'll be his 5th team in 6 seasons. He's nothing more than a journeyman backup the likes of Brian Hoyer, Trevor Siemian, Brandon Allen, etc.

That was an interesting discussion. I think the days of a pure pocket passer are almost over. Colt nailed it about how being able to pass, accuracy, is still the top priority.

AJ pointed out about how hard it is to block for a guy who runs a lot. I remember when Kaepernick was run out of the league. The primary reason of course was his stance that got him blacklisted. But an honest criticism in his last season was he took off and ran too often, or would run around too much, making it almost impossible for an OC to create a playbook. The year he was 1-11 with SF, his last season.

49ers offense was also weak that final season with Kaepernick. Apart from Carlos Hyde at RB and Jeremy Kerley at WR, both of who didn't amount to much when they left the 49ers, Chip Kelly simply wasn't given the time to get the offense back on track through the draft as Jed York dumped both Baalke and Chip as they won even less games than they did with Jim Tomsula the year before. Interestingly Chip Kelly said later that he wanted to draft Dak Prescott but Baalke vetoed it. By then Kaepernick had decided to test the open market and the rest is history................

Interesting article from The Athletic about how Sam Darnold is the latest "rags to riches" story, and who's next? (Highly unlikely anyone is, is the answer). But it honestly doesn't go into enough detail, or examples, or talk about enough QBs. It doesn't show historical players who failed at first, and tried to get a second chance but couldn't - which must be a big list of players. And it doesn't talk about other QBs who are now on new teams, whether they start or not: Zach Wilson, Kenny Pickett, Sam Howell (though highly unlikely he even sees the field next year, barring injury to Darnold).

Good article, but I'm not so sure it's an authentic "rags to riches" story until Darnold can win a playoff game. I consider last year a big disappointment going 14-3 with one of the best records in the league but experiencing an early exit out of postseason where they were favorites over LAR. Sure, Darnold had a phenominal season statistically (a far cry from all the picks he threw at NYJ stating he was "seeing ghosts"), but I think all those impressive stats & great regular season are meaningless when you can't even win one playoff game. Mayfield is also mentioned as a "rags to riches" story, but he's won a playoff game at TB & also had won one when he was at Cleveland (a lot of people forget about that). Being a #1 OA & with several years in the league, it's time for Mayfield to go deeper in the playoffs setting sights on the SB.

So, what are the expectations for Darnold at Seattle? Winning record & just make the playoffs? Win a playoff game? A deep playoff run? SB title? He's a #3 OA pick making decent money now. Time to rise to the occasion & do something more than an just an early exit out of the postseason.

On Zach, I think he is seen as nothing more than a backup upgrade...at least right now. McDaniel was very disappointed with Skylar Thompson going 1-3 in that span where Tua went on IR (what do you expect coach with a low-drafted QB who was a marginal prospect to even make it as a backup. Lol). Certainly Zach is a better QB than Thompson, but I don't think McDaniel is entertaining any thoughts of opening up QB competition between the two unlike what Indy is going to do with AR & Danny Jones. But if Tua were to get hurt again missing some time, then Zach would have his opportunity to prove himself.

Pickett, IMO, should be given a chance to compete for the starting job at Cleveland (right now it's just him & Watson on the depth chart). In 3 seasons as a pro, he's only had 24 starts where he went a respectable 14-10. He's got an above-average arm, decent size & good athleticism where he's listed as a "mobile pocket passer." Granted, he needs to grow up & not be publicly second guessing his HC's decisions, but I fail to understand why this 1st rounder isn't given a chance to start again?

Sam Howell is a little bit of a mystery to me as to where he goes with his career? Though only a 5th rd pick, he was initially projected as a mid-2nd with a 6.2 rating ("Will eventually become average starter"). His scouting report says he has a powerful arm that can effortlessly make all the NFL throws including deep balls into tight windows. Though undersized in the height dept, he's athletic & mobile having been a dual-threat QB at North Carolina. But his full year of starting at Wash was anything but average...it was downright disastrous! (4-13 record with 21 picks & a 78 passer rating!). Has that disastrous season blacklisted him where no team thinks they can develop him into a starter?
