If I had to guess what Rodgers is thinking I'd... wait, let me shut the lights out and sip my ayahuasca tea for a moment...

I think he wants to go to the Vikings. They have a more stacked offense, a better OL and better running game, solid group of younger players, and they play indoors. What about JJ? Hasn't played a down in the NFL. So I think Aaron thinks he can beat him out in camp, then hold the starting job for the year as they win with him at QB.

I think he sees the Steelers as a team loaded on defense, with an iffy O line, not much of a running game, and two WR who are likely to compete against one another, leading to drama he doesn't want to deal with, and drama that may take attention away from him.

I also think he's going to wait until after the draft, then see what happens, to avoid getting into the same situation Kirk Cousins did.

The issue is, I don't know who really wants him? If I were either of those teams (or the Saints, or Titans), I would wait until the last minute, then completely lo-ball him, and not negotiate any more. Approach him with the mindset if he truly wants to play for us, he'll agree to the deal.

There would be no competition in camp between Rodgers & McCarthy. Rodgers has already said he feels he shouldn't have to compete with anyone for a starting job. If he were to sign with the Vikings, he would want to be guaranteed the starting job with JJ McCarthy the backup (Rodgers has said he is good friends with O'Connell as they go way back).

However, the problem with this scenario is that Rodgers would have the young McCarthy breathing down his neck. And at the first sign of trouble in terms of the team not winning & Rodgers playing poorly, a QB change would be made without hesitation as we saw with the situation last year between Cousins & MPJ. That's a lot of stress that would be placed on him that he may not like (unlike Flacco, he seems unwilling to accept any backup role).

I watched some of the interview between Rodgers & McAfee on his show today. Rodgers talked about some personal issues going on his life that are taking a lot of his attention right now. Not surprisingly, he expressed resentment that the Jets told him they wanted to go in a different direction at QB, and that they didn't ask him for any input on the how the team could improve (sounds like his pride was hurt).

Bottom line: I wonder if his heart is really into playing anymore at his age?

Rodgers also said he'd play for $10m. I'll repeat what I did before, if I were the Vikings I'd call him and say they'll sign him, but with no guarantee he's the starter, and he has to sign for way less, like $5m, or even the vet minimum, with $0 guaranteed. Why Rodgers thinks he has much leverage at this point is laughable. But he's acting like there are suckers out there that will think so, and maybe he's right.

I think Ashton Jeanty is overhyping himself, and a lot of the media are helping. He's riding the wave Saquon Barkley did (behind an excellent OL), and implied teams should draft him high because he can't be tackled. That's quite the claim. Don't get me wrong, I think he's going to be good, but not the same level he does. And according to this article he's a "unanimous top 5 talent" meaning he won't fall past Jacksonville.

Rodgers also said he was annoyed the Jets brought him from the west coast to New Jersey to tell him he’s fired and they should have just called him. Like hello, there was the whole ordeal of you ignoring the Packers phone calls so they shipped you out and then you started b***ing in the media that they never got ahold of you. So the Jets did like you wanted, and told you to your face they don’t want you. Guy is crazy and I also think he’s keeping his options open in case something better comes up.

Looking back at the last 10 drafts, there's only been two RBs taken in the top 5; Barkley (2nd) & Elliott (4th). Both were day 1 starters & had outstanding rookie seasons (Barkley rushing for over 1300 yds, 11 TDs & 91 receptions, Elliott for 1600 yds, 15 TDs & 31 receptions)

If Jeanty is drafted at or near the top 5, the bar has been set for his expectations in order to justify that high of a pick for a RB (considering the shelve life of a RB today is very low & good backs can be found in the later rounds).

Went to Wal-Mart in San Diego, as I parked a guy and his wife got out of a car 2 spaces to my right, guy was wearing a yellow T-shirt with maroon lettering.. On the back it said in bold letters " support Frank Kush" on the front was printed "Frank Kush didn't punch me!! With a not great version of ASU sundevil..all I asked is if he is the original owner, yes he was..I didn't take a picture.. Shirt was likely made in 1979..talk about vintage!!!
I remember reading years later that multiple players saying that they wouldn't play for Kush at Baltimore!! Most famously John Elway had agent tell Baltimore that he would not play for Kush..
Because of what media was when I was a kid, couldn't really follow what happened to Kevin Rutledge.

Very tragic incident. An apparent suicide following a police chase where he was being pursued after discharging a firearm during an argument with a family member.

This shows how quickly things can spiral out of control in a young athlete's life. An excellent college career as a WR at LSU where he was projected as a 2nd rd pick.

The Vikings are considering a trade with Tennessee offering their 3rd rd pick for Levis & their 4th rd pick. The Vikings currently have no one else but McCarthy on the depth chart & have stated they're no longer interested in Rodgers.

IMO, this would be a stupid move. Will Levis hasn't demonstrated any ability to play QB in the NFL - not even as a backup. It's so bad that just after two seasons, the Titans are moving on & looking to start all over with Cam Ward. In fact, the Titans signed Brandon Allen as their backup not even trusting Levis for that spot. Lol. A totally overrated QB that never really played that well at Kentucky. He may have all the physical skills & elite arm strength, but he's incapable of playing the position at this level. Maybe move him to TE? Lol.

Levis needs to sit and learn, but I don't think it works for the Vikings. Not with JJ needing to learn. I can't blame the Vikings at all for not signing Rodgers. But from what I can tell Tyler Huntley, Desmond Ridder, Teddy Bridgewater, Carson Wentz, and Easton Stick, are all free agents with no team. Considering the Vikings situation, I'd sign any of those guys before trading for Levis. And I don't think much of Wentz, and Stick has struggled as bad as Levis.

There's psychology here too. Picture this: We're 6 games into the season and the Vikings are 3-3, and JJ has looked good at times, and made rookie mistakes that cost them at least one game, maybe two. With Levis, there could be pressure wondering, "maybe young Will Levis is the guy? He has a bit more experience. Tennessee sucked, maybe it wasn't his fault? Put him in there and bench JJ!" That would be a total disaster IMO. So bad you don't want to even risk it, at all. But if the Vikings are in that same 3-3 situation with Huntley or Ridder on the bench, no one would be asking that. However, if JJ got hurt, the Vikings would at least have an experienced QB who has started before coming in to relieve him.

Then, around rounds 5+ they can draft a rookie who they can push to the practice squad/emergency QB. OR, another team will draft a QB, and cut someone they have on staff, and the Vikings can sign that person. All of these are likely better than signing Levis.

48 hours until the draft starts.

Yep, now less than 27 hrs - let the drama begin. Lol. And I see that ESPN is televising all 3 days of the draft. That should be a real treat for the diehards. Not me, one day is enough. Lol.

Bridgewater or Wentz might be good backups for McCarthy. Nonetheless, McCarthy needs to start & play a full season to better evaluate their franchise guy. I can hardly wait to see what he has. He's got an elite arm with top velocity. He's got good size. He's fast & athletic (he had some nice runs for big gainers at Michigan). And Jim Harbaugh stated that McCarthy was the best QB in last year's class (of course coach...we wouldn't expect you to say anything else now would we. Lol).

Looks like his meniscus repair was a complete success & he's been given the green light for all systems go.

I will be skipping the draft. Too damn drawn out. Slower than a Merchant & Ivory film.

The issue with JJ is it's hard to argue he's been tested, put into any kind of pressure cooker. And as to Harbaugh chiping about his old QB, he could certainly still swing a deal and dump Herbert for him, if he believes in him that much. I do agree JJ must be the starter, for this entire season. Hence my post that they need a vet behind him who no one expects to start.

At least the picks flow faster after the first round but the first two days i s usually enough for me then I catch up with the later rounds in YouTube with all of the live shows and podcasts going.

Tom Peliserro wrote a piece on QB draft prospects after talking to a few NFL insiders. The feedback wasn't the best on Shedeur. Here's a link to the article. But this stood out.
“The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates. ... But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good,"
"It didn't go great in our interview. He wants to dictate what he's going to do and what's best for him. He makes you feel small."
"He has been so insulated. It's going to be a culture shock when he really learns how a locker room really operates and how it really works inside a building. He's had so much input on the offensive game plan and who the coach is, and everything's been catered to him. When you walk in one of these (NFL) buildings, no one's going to give a s--- about that. No one cares who your dad is."
Wow! But at the same time, I can't honestly tell if this is just a hit job. At some point you wonder if some of these coaches and execs are just blowing smoke.

Pelisero mentions Brian Brohm at one point. Anyone remember that name?

I skimmed through the article & it sounds like a hit job. The question with Sanders is can he make it as a starter & eventual franchise QB in the NFL? I think he can. I like comparing him to Bo Nix (one scouting report has his similarity level to that of Nix, MJP & McCarthy). I think the comparison to Nix is more accurate.

Both are virtually identical in size (Nix is about a half inch taller & a few pounds heavier). Both have strong, NFL-caliber arms but not elite. Sanders is a little faster than Nix. Both had very impressive completion percentages in their last season (Sanders @ 74% & Nix @ 77%). Both have demonstrated the ability to throw into tight windows with precision accuracy on a multitude of routes. Both operated out of the shotgun spread-option (they didn't throw a lot of "dinks & dunks" but really aired it out). Nix had a much better OL at Oregon. CU's OL was average at best allowing good defenses to put constant pressure on him.

I think Sanders is more talented than Bryce Young, who was a #1 OA & hasn't done very good struggling after 2 seasons at Carolina. As I mentioned before, whatever team ends up drafting Sanders they should let him operate out of the spread option - the offense he's played in since HS - where he's got a better chance of success at the pro level (see Jayden Daniels). I like him going in the 1st - I don't know what team or what number pick - but he should be a 1st rounder, IMO. The better question is can he start day 1 & have a good rookie season like Nix or an exceptional one like Daniels (if Sanders slips to the 2nd rd, he could still end up starting as Hurts did in his rookie year).

On another note, here's Cam Ward showing off his cannon arm:

Didn't watch. Went for a longish bike ride. Let's see....

Jax traded up to get Hunter? Hmmm. A little surprised that McMillan went at 8, but the Panthers do need a WR.

Giants trade up to get their QB of the future in Shedeur Jaxson Dart! Even the Steelers skipped over Shedeur. Wonder where he'll land on day 2?

Ward #1 to Tennessee...no suprises there. This makes QBs #1 OA three straight years & 8 out of the last 10 drafts.

Shocker of the draft: The Giants trade their 2nd & 3rd picks & next year's 3rd for Houston's 1st rd pick & draft Jaxon Dart. Dart is a dual-threat & one of the best running QBs in this draft. This is the direction the league is going. The writing is on the wall for Wilson -- how soon do we see Dart supplanting Wilson?

Sanders...wow! Dropped out of the 1st rd. Good question where he'll land on day #2.

Scratching my head with the Broncos. They pass on Hampton, the 2nd best RB in this draft, and take a corner? Jim Harbaugh pulls a surprise & takes Hampton. Every mock draft had Payton taking Hampton...weird (don't complain anymore Payton that you need a better running game. Lol).

Jeanty to the Raiders...no surprises there. I imagine Alpe must be pretty optimistic about this season? You have quite a bit of offensive firepower there with Smith, Bowers & now Jeanty. Playoffs?

Geno is definitely good, Jeanty will help, and Bowers should have a monster season. But there are holes all over. Average offensive line (maybe sub average), and a lack of depth there. No WR1/X receiver (pick in round 2 or 3?).

On the DL Crosby is outstanding, unsure if Wilkins can stay healthy. At the other DE/Edge Koonce coming off ACL tear, Wilson slowly developing. Only one real starting LB in Roberts, who's not great against the pass (LB pick in round 3 or 4?). Team has 3 CBs who would struggle to start for many teams in the NFL (draft pick in round 2 or 3 likely). Probably set at safety, but lack depth there.

I'm a total realist. I see Pete Carroll at least having the team ready to play every Sunday and eliminating all the stupid, bone headed mistakes made by previous coaches, which is a small victory in itself. If the Raiders finish 7-10 in that division but look competitive with a few good wins but don't beat themselves, and look like they are headed in a positive direction at the end of the season, I'd be good with that.

Raiders are absolutely loaded with FA money heading into 2026. More than any other team in the NFL (currently).

My guess is the Browns take Shedeur in round 2.

Interesting trade by the Eagles late in the first. Only jumped one spot to get Jihaad Campbell but obviously thought that losing some picks to the Chiefs was worth it

Wouldn't be surprised to see the Browns draft Sanders in the second round or the Saints. Both teams need a QB. Pittsburgh were positioned to take him but didn't see him as a first round pick it seems.
