Quoting myself from January of this year:
As I posted before, Watson will never play another down in the NFL. The Browns will put him on the PUP list for all of 2025, then cut him after the season is over, to eat as little of money as possible (while still paying him). My guess is they will draft either Ward or Sanders, whomever falls to them, depending if Tennessee takes the other guy. And that was before Watson was re-injured. They simply have to move on from the stink in their mouth that is Watson as soon as possible. And drafting a QB will help with that, even if it doesn't lead to a lot of wins.

Just after talking about him, Tyson Bagent looked like Tom Brady against the Chiefs in a wild comeback win. However, I think the game was a win for the Chiefs too because their first team offense looked quite good early.

Not to be outdone by Bagent, Tommy DeVito looked very sharp for the Giants against NE, even sharper than Dart. But the Pats played 2nd-4th stringers.

Kyle McCord has completely fallen back to earth after his week 1 preseason game. The Eagles-Jets game was good though. Fields did not play at all, which surprises me as he has got to pass more. Adrien Martinez showed how mobile he was, a total escape artist with some nice runs, and a few good and bad passes.

Bryce Perkins (who like Martinez came from the UFL) was 10/11 for the Panthers after signing 3 days ago. Had a bad fumble though. I noticed Aaron Rodgers didn't take a single snap for the Steelers in the preseason. I haven't looked it up, but I can't seem to recall him playing in a preseason game in a good 5 years. You'd think he'd want to be out there as he hasn't been with the team that long. But Aaron knows best.

Nice overview - I didn't get to see any of the games. After McCord's first preseason game, the pundits were stating he should have been drafted in the higher rounds & that he could potentially in a year or two challenge Hurts. Lol. Is he even going to make the 53? IMO, way too much hype on these rookie QBs & their preseason game performances.

I'm surprised that Fields didn't get in a series or two. But I guess they're saving him for their opener agaisnt Pittsburgh. I think if Fields can improve his passing - particularly consistency with accuracy - he's got a chance to be a top dual-threat in the league. His career passer rating is only 83.9. By comparison the top 3 dual-threats of Jackson, Allen & Hurts have career ratings of 102, 93.4 & 93.5, respectively. And the Jets drafted the top OL in the 1st (Membou) and with their 2nd rd pick, they took the 3rd best TE (Taylor). Both are already listed #1 on the depth chart & should help that offense.

Last season starting those 6 games for the injured Wilson, Fields' passer rating improved to 93.3 - right up there with Allen & Hurts. He threw the ball very well with only one pick & one fumble during that span. In their impressive win over the Chargers, Fields looked very good throwing for 245 with a TD & a rushing TD. This was definitely an improvement & a step in the right direction. But he has to be consistent & show this for a full 17 game schedule. He's got elite arm strength, elite size, elite speed, etc. - all the physical skills to be a great dual-threat.

You really have to wonder though if Tomlin has lost his mind trading Fields away & instead signing Rodgers. Does Tomlin with a straight face really believe that Rodgers will lead the team to the SB or even a deep playoff run? Lol. And there's Fields who significantly improved his passing in those 6 starts, is only 26 & has a lot upside if he keeps improving.

I posted before similar a few times. It boggles my mind the Steelers let Fields go considering the situation they were in. Makes zero sense.

Shedeur Sanders may have just got himself cut. He was clearly outplayed by Dillon Gabriel. Shedeur was a mere 3/6 for a mere 14 yards. But worse, he was sacked 5 times for 41 yards, including a horrible 26 yard sack that looked as bad as any he took in college. Plus a fumble. And this was against the Rams bench warmers. It made it look like he hasn't learned much of anything.

Here's a link to the NFL cut tracker for every team. Tuesday is the final cut date.

Raiders QB Aiden O'Connell suffered a broken wrist against AZ, out 6-8 weeks. This vaults rookie Cam Miller to backup Geno. Cam has played okay, but he's simply not ready to start in the NFL.

Eagles acquired Sam Howell (who didn't play so well in Minn), as the Vikings signed Wentz.

I watched the entire Saints game, and while they may start Spencer Rattler week 1, I'm convinced Tyler Shough will be their starting QB this season. He just throws a much better ball, and has a true NFL arm. His delivery, velocity, ability to throw on the move reminds me of a younger Aaron Rodgers. Not saying he will achieve that level, that's just what some of his throws reminded me of. Also, a knock in college on Shough was his injuries and a fear he avoided getting hit. I didn't see a hint of that in his play this preseason.

Also, if I learned anything about rookies this off-season, especially QBs, WRs and DBs, is if you are in college you MUST go to the Combine and do your best. Shough proved that, as did a few other players. On the flip side, look at Shedeur Sanders, who I honestly think is a possible cut candidate. At best, he'll end up on the Browns practice squad. Also look at how far Will Howard fell. Granted, he was injured in camp, but he generated so little buzz, and mostly just criticism.

I think the Raiders will have to sign a veteran QB to backup Smith? I can't imagine Carroll feeling comfortable with Miller backing him up for that long of time. Miller showed enough to make the 53 justifying his drafting, but not as a NFL worthy backup yet.

Shedeur Sanders may have just got himself cut. He was clearly outplayed by Dillon Gabriel.
So, is Gabriel the franchise guy now? It sure isn't Flacco & Pickett looks to be a draft bust now having chronic injury issues. And Huntley is a bonafide journeyman backup fighting for a roster spot every year.

So, I ask the million dollar question: Do the Browns faithful have something to be excited about with Gabriel potentially being their franchise QB? After all, he is a 3rd rd pick with a 6.10 rating:

I believe they just cut Shilo.

I think you're right. They'll pick someone up from the slush pile of vet cuts coming this week. Winston, Heineke, Huntley, Keenum, Wolford, Ridder, etc.

No, he's the dice that's in their hand, about to roll sometime this season. I think Flacco starts for sure. Then when he gets hurt or they lose enough games (both possible) they may roll with Dillon, see what he has. He played well this preseason, and clearly outplayed Sanders.

It's very possible the Browns only win about 5 games this coming season and end up with a top 3 draft pick. Then try to start once again with a new, highly drafted QB.

Hendon Hooker, despite his talent (potential, still), did not have a good preseason, and I'm curious if the Lions cut him, and if so what happens to him.

Doubt it. Raiders need someone who has started before, and can come in, learn a system, and be available for about 8 weeks in case Geno gets hurt. That's not Hooker to me. That is more like guys I mentioned: Heineke, Keenum, Huntley. Presuming one of them gets cut, or pushed to the practice squad.

Wentz has reached the point in his career where he's going to be well paid to carry a clipboard. He quite possibly still thinks he will lead a team to a Super Bowl win and MVP. But it ain't happening. He's now in the Tyrod Taylor phase of his career.

Jets cut Adrien Martinez. Browns cut Tyler Huntley. Eagles cut DTR. If you look at the full cut list you may see several names of guys who have hung around the league a couple years as backups, ST and platoon players in various positions who have been cut on various teams.

Unhappy with contract extension negotiations, Jacobi Myers says he wants out of Vegas.

Almost all cuts finalized.

Jets also cut Brady Cook. Going with just 2 QBs. Fields and Taylor.

Seattle keeping 3 QBs on the roster: Darnold, Lock and Milroe. There is no way they were risking Milroe being picked up by another team as he looks like could lead the team one day.

Bengals are now paying something like 40% of their entire salary cap to four players.

In a bit of a surprise the Chargers cut Heinike and DJ Ulagelile, and kept Tre Lance. I wouldn't say Lance outplayed Heinike. Both looked average. But Lance did not look ready to take over the first team if Herbert goes do.

Pickett is insurance, as the Raiders cut Cam Miller - likely thinking he will clear waivers and they can sign him to the practice squad. But in 8 weeks when O'Connell is healthy, then what will they do? Cooper is at the end of his career and may catch 30 passes for the Raiders.

Curious if someone picks up Hooker from waivers. Also, when guys clear waivers and are offered a practice squad gig, they usually stick with the team they were on. Hooker, if not signed by another team, would be a good candidate to switch teams to a place where he has a chance to maybe play.

Chiefs cut safety Mike Edwards, who was part of their defense last season. A surprise. KC is one team who (as I write this) hasn't released all finalized cuts.

Saints cut Jake Haener. 49ers cut Shanahan protege Tanner Mordecai as well as Nade Sudfield who they signed a week ago.

49ers already cut Mordecai once and brought him back. Assume they do the same again and place him on the practice squad. They also have Rourke stashed on IR recovering from an ACL but surprisingly he managed to play on it in his final college year. Maybe not a full tear.

Yeah, it was a partial tear that he originally injured a couple of years earlier when he played at Ohio Univ. He didn't have surgery & recovered well enough to continue playing. However, last summer he re-tore the ACL in preseason workouts & didn't tell anyone about it including his closest teammates. Unbelievable he played a full season on a torn ACL as mobile pocket passer. Here's his story - it's kinda funny:
