Oh absolutely, but next month will be something else and so on and so forth. Heck might even say people are out to get him is why he didn’t make the ballot or they win. AB and Rodgers would be a match made in somewhere, just not heaven.

So, I wonder where Tannehill will end up now? Maybe Denver? Raiders? The Big Apple? Or will he call it a career & retire? The day they drafted Levis, Tannehill's days were numbered. Now Levis is in the spotlight & he's going to have to win...and immediately. I'd say the pressure is on him to get the Titans back into the winning mode & make the playoffs this year.

WTH? Is he going to be content on being the backup there? Because it's the AR show in 2024. Assuming his shoulder surgery was successful & he's good to go, AR is the franchise QB. It surprises me that a player of Flacco's reputation & accomplishments, would take a gigantic step backwards in his career by accepting a backup role. And I'm not sure how his age plus his significant injury history make him even a viable backup in a league that is physically brutal on QBs. He must really want to still wear a uniform & the thought of retirement must be depressing.

Raiders signed Minshew, and I still they are going to draft a QB, it's just a matter of when in the draft. Some reporters still stating they are thinking of trading for Fields, but I can't possibly see why at this point. NY now has back-up QBs for both teams. Not sure what Denver is thinking, other than likely drafting a QB. Maybe just tank with Jarett Stidham and Ben DeNucci backing him up. Combined salary for both is under $6m!

Back-up veterans are however valuable in this league, even if 3rd string at this point in time. He, Jimmy G, Tyler Huntley, Easton Stick, Joshua Dobbs will all sign somewhere eventually. Fields I think won't be dealt until the draft, when someone hoping a QB falls to them doesn't get what they wanted, and Fields becomes the transitional leftover. The same is likely going to happen with Zach Wilson.

I think that's part of it. He did say last year that his kids loved watching him play for the Browns. He has five children of various ages, and I think the younger ones never really got to seem him play much except mop-up the few years he was on the Jets.

What do you think went wrong with Fields? He's got a cannon of an arm, great size, outstanding physical skills, etc. He played two years under Ron Day's pro-style offense at OSU (same offense that Stroud played in). And Fields was the #2 QB recruit coming out of HS only behind Lawrence. His pre-draft rating profile was a high 6.45 ("Will Become A Good Starter Within Two Years.").


It's mind-blowing to think that Chicago traded a 1st, 4th & 5th round pick to the Giants to move up in the draft & take Fields with the 11th OA. And after 3 yrs & 38 starts (10-28) he's being jettisoned out of Chicago as a draft bust...unbelievable (you think Chicago would have learned their lesson after the Trubisky disaster).

Is Hollywood Brown the answer for KC? I don't know. The BAL )2021) version of him might be, the AZ version isn't (he didn't really have much O around in AZ so maybe that's not on him). The price isn't too bad, but KC definitely needs a guy who can blow (or a least pull) the top off of Ds...is Hollywood that guy?

Gotta say Nomad, by your normal criteria Fields is a " bust" but in surprising form, instead of his dismal everything w the Bears, including health, his cannon of an arm is complimented!! I love it!! If Herbert is a chump, then Justin Fields is certainly a stooge as well, and as you point out, he does have a gun, unproven, unused, never tested, could be wrong, was he in the post season?
Bears 2021..6 wins, 2022..3 wins, 2023..7 wins..

Well, he's got the physical skills & one of the strongest arms in the league. But so does Herbert - he's a big guy with also a cannon arm who's surprisingly agile for a guy that size. The issue is why are they failing to succeed (i.e. win) in light of the fact that they had these great pre-draft ratings from the "expert scouts" that almost guaranteed their potential for success.

It's clear that if Chicago drafts Williams - as anticipated - ownership is stating that they can't win with Fields. They said the same thing with Trubisky & flushed him after 4 yrs even though he had a winning record (31-26) & a playoff appearance.

How about he's not a very good QB? He's basically Terrell Pryor 2.0, teams have figured this out, which is why no one is trading anything for him.

Don't believe my saying he's not very good? Consider these numbers, beyond the abyssal 10-28 starting record (just 2 wins against teams with winning records) in three years of playing:

Adjusted yards per pass (factoring in TD, INT and Sacks):
  • 2021 - 4.24 - 32nd in the league. Only Zach Wilson was worse.
  • 2022 - 4.63 - Last out of all qualifying QBs in the entire league.
  • 2023 - 5.29 - An improvement, right? Well, just 26th in the league, just below Aiden O'Connell.
Last year he took without question the longest time dropping back to throw the ball. Almost 3.5 seconds. Almost a quarter second longer than Lamar, or Deshaun Watson on average who were next on the list. But only three QBs were less accurate overall in the entire league. Tommy DeVito, Zach Wilson, and Daniel Jones (who had far less time to throw).

How good is he when the game is on the line? A miserable two 4Q comebacks in his career. But it gets worse. His completion percentage in 4Q drops to just 55.8%, his passer rating dwindles to 61.3, he's also thrown 16 interceptions. All are worse in the league over this time frame.

His best numbers were in the red zone, but it was because of his threat to run. His passing accuracy dropped to 55.3%.

People who think he's still good, still has what it takes, only watch highlight reels of him. Or they see him scramble for long runs and envision him doing that every drive, every game, saving teams and leading them to wins. But in three seasons it hasn't translated, no matter who the other players, OC, or HC are. People need to watch entire games of him playing, or the A-22 coaches footage. He doesn't see the field well, he doesn't go through progressions quickly, he doesn't move well within the pocket, prefering to take off and run, and despite his cannon of an arm, he's not accurate at all.

But it may be worse than this. I think teams don't want him because it will disrupt who their starting QB is. It will make people wonder "what about Fields?" which is a distraction, when they know Fields doesn't have what it takes. He needs to just switch to TE or maybe slot receiver, like Logan Thomas and Terrell Pryor did.

Hard times when Pickett gets a job over Fields. Will just have to be a different quarterback to possibly bench Wilson.

Alpe, I think you left out coaching, specifically offensive coordinator, these guys are supposed to know dozens of things a quarterback can do when it's necessary and my big issue with Herbert and Fields is both are pretty boring, Herbert from the shotgun,
game film says don't worry if linebackers commit to pass Herbert doesn't think scramble, you watch Purdy, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson.. People are not home, next nobody is open they make second nature decisions to run, and run effectively..Josh Allen is a monster and if nothing is available he starts running!! And many people are freaking out about how often he doesn't slide and takes a hit for extra yardage!! I love it, but I am not his agent or ownership!!
Justin Fields is a good runner but only on broken plays, all the ridiculous play calling were he is the designated ball carrier probably have Kordell Stewart, RG3, and even Taysom Hill screaming at the TV not to do that!! He is ineffective in the pocket, ineffective out of the pocket and his best quality is being semi slippery when nobody is open or defenders over pursue or mistackle..I have tried to like the guy,really I have but he doesn't see the field.
Even my least favorite,Kyler Murray has better vision and utility than Fields!!
If Harbaugh doesn't think out of the box LAC lucky to be a .500 team

Keep in mind Luke Getsy was brought on to "fix" Fields. He even tried changing the playbook once his original plan didn't work. Nope. It's because of what I listed. I've spent too much time, which to me is enough time, watching Fields play at this point. He's destined to the bench and very likely an afterthought. Nomad brought up him being big in high school. So was Matt Barkley. So was JP Losman. So was Tim Boyle. So was Todd Marinovich, Jarett Stidham, Josh Rosen, Blake Bortles, Jeff Driskel, Christian Hackenberg, etc, etc. Neither Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers were anywhere on any chart, neither were recruited.

All of those other guys you mentioned who run some have significantly better passing statistics, no matter how you slice it than Fields. If the play breaks down, Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Hurts, Murray, even Russell Wilson can and will burn you with their arms more than their legs.

I do fully agree the QB draws in Chicago must have been drawn up out of desperation! Allen usually does it on short yardage or in need of short gains. The Bears were doing it to keep their offense going, since Fields isn't a very good passer.

Keep in mind that Josh Allen is about the same size as Derrick Henry. He's slightly taller, slightly lighter. 6'5", 240. That's an absolute load to tackle. Even the average NFL safety is 6'1" and 205. Robert Spillane, a hard hitting MLB for the Raiders is 6'1", 225.

Murray can make some impressive throws on the move. But I don't know how far he's really going to take AZ.

I know Nomad thinks Herbert is a bust, but I'm starting to wonder if his future is the new Drew Bledsoe. There was a guy with a very good arm, could make some big plays, won some games with a few teams. But he also disappointed in several games. He took a lot of hits, a lot of sacks, sometimes got called a statue, and when he ran he wasn't particularly athletic when doing so. Harbaugh is definitely going to have to think outside the box and draw up a slew of specific plays for Herbert and their offense. But that's supposedly what they hired him to do.
