Yes, I'm discounting Herbert. I don't think much of him. He's 0-3 in the playoffs, and you (not specifically you, Nomad), like other Charger fans and Herbert apologists can toss out all kinds of stats, complain about his offensive line, his OC, his head coach, praise his size, arm, Wonderlic score and so on. But the fact remains he's simply not delivered after six seasons in the NFL as the anointed franchise QB with a $262m deal at $52 per year. So yes, I'm discounting him.
You can say Allen hasn't got the Bills to the big dance, and that's true, but he's 8-6 in the playoffs in his 8 seasons, and come up big time and again in big games, and clutch moments. Throw out that collapse his defense did in 2022, and again in 2024, both against Mahomes when Patty was incredible, and Allen goes to, and wins the Super Bowl at least once, if not twice.
It's one thing to pile up huge yards between the 10 yard lines, or throw TDs when the game isn't on the line, and another entirely to do so, carrying your team, when it absolutely matters most. The first is Herbert, the second is Allen.
We can even play a game around this. You're drafting a team today, from scratch. All the other big QBs have been taken, the two left are Allen and Herbert. Are you taking Herbert? I'm taking Allen if I get to choose first, and it takes zero thought on my pea brain to make this decision.
