It's hard to see past Sky dominating that race. Do you think they'll pick a leader or let them see how it plays out? I'd like to see Kennaugh take it.

I think they may drive it and then have a free for all.. Personally Id like to see Russ Downing crowned champ. Dont write off endura though, theyve got about 12 riders listed. And rapha are no mugs

One question, why do u23 champions not get to wear their national jerseys on the road. A bit unfair that they are restricted to wearing them at u23 level only.

Completely logical, as they're only U23 champs. TT champs don't get to wear the jersey in road races either.

But the U23 champs get to wear their championship jerseys at the U23 races?
But... last year there was some talk about Rasmus Guldhammer having to race at the adult-race at the WC despite being only... 20 or so... because he'd signed with a pro-team. Doesn't that mean that when you sign with a pro-team you're automatically "too old" to race at the U23 race, and if you haven't signed with a pro-team you can't race at the big races?

I think it could be fun if Bellis did good at the British RR but I guess that would be a little too much too ask...

Hmm... I've got a question: Are you allowed to talk about non-British championships here, or should I make my own thread?

Thats the problem.. poor old Pete Kennaugh didnt get to wear his very much :( Considering the amount of youngsters turning pro before 23 they should change the rules

Ooh, so you can be on a pro-conti team and still be able to ride the U23 championships? (If you are under 23...)

And now, I am going to be a really bad girl and start talking about some non-British championships!

Read somewhere that Brian Vandborg wanted to try for the Danish, could actually be nice to see that jersey away from Saxo for a change...

The Luxembourgish... well... since the entire top 3 from last years race it at Saxo I guess there is a great chance the jersey will remain there, still; could be rather funny if Diddier took it! (On the other hand it is rather convinient when one of the Schlecks have it! Makes them easier to tell apart...)

And maybe, at all to championship-races, some completely unknown dude wins! :D

I would also like to see a non Saxo rider win maybe N.Ostergaars-Glud-Marstand or M.Reihs-Dessigna kokken....If Saxo must win then F.Hoj would be a good winner..

Actually I believe it was the TT championship that Vandborg said he would target. Between him and Lars Bak having changed teams I'd say the TT jersey is quite likely to change if not hand then at least teams.

The RR is a different matter. Not only does Saxo Bank have all the best riders, they have all the best riders on the same team. The best non-Saxo riders are probably Bak and Vandborg, but Vandborg is all by himself and Bak only has Rasmus Guldhammer. Saxo Bank really should win it.
Breschel specifically would be my favourite. He's just the best Danish one-day rider by a long shot and if a group contests the win with more than one Saxo Bank guy in he's probably the one who will do the sprint. Alex Rasmussen could win a sprint to, but I think Breschel is more likely to make the selections.

US Nat's are in Bend this week. U23 is Stacked here in the US

We start as low as 10-12. Which is interesting and an organizational cluster IMHO

What is the UK's youngest age group for Nationals?

Jeremy Hunt/Banesto attempted to change the Jersey...

At least they tried;)
Banesto (or rather, Banesto manager Echavarri) had a weird obsession with national champion jerseys. Well, actually, he had a weird obsession with all jerseys that meant less exposure of the team's colours, including leader jerseys and the like. He said they made the sponsor less recognizable, and that cycling was the only sport that penalized winners.

Indurain's Spanish champion jersey was just Banesto's normal kit, but with the flag on the sleeves. He looked like a former champion (although I think back then former champions didn't wear anything special on their sleeves).

Hunt's kit was not particularly horrible, but I like the classic one better even if it's not actually the British flag. Come on, the Union Jack would look pretty ugly on a jersey. There are flags that work OK as flags, but not nearly as well as jerseys (I'm looking at you, US).

Hmm... if you look at F. Schleck and N. Sørensen neither of them seem to have anything on their sleeves... so... it's not something you have to do, or am I just blind?

I'm sure any number of teams or riders would have been happy to help Echavarri with that little problem. If only Indurain hadn't been so damn uncooperative.

Australia should hold theirs in Europe. What top aussie pro wants to fly back home, race, and then fly back, all on the eve of the TdF? Or they could hold theirs a few months later than everyone else.

With the Worlds down there, they could have scheduled their champ races a week before.

I hope you are being sarcastic! They are in January and having them before the worlds would be silly as it is at the end of the year.

Doh! Misread the month.

I think putting them before the worlds this year would have been good because the top Australian pros who race in Europe will want to do well. January is before the season even begins. A rider like Evans won't peak for a January race. It would seem that the riders who race in Europe are at a big disadvantage in a January race.

true, it is a hard one as the two national champs for aus are riders we hardly see as both meyer boys are young and have track duties. I like to see the green and gold jersey out there.

Not as low as that. Under 18 i think, Geraint Thomas was 16 as an international but racing older riders.

USA international riders aged 10?!!!

On the other hand, given his performance in the TdS TT Fuglsang is looking very good for the TT title.

Don't forget that many of the Australian riders come back to Australia over the European winter for training/ Christmas etc, bringing quite a few European pros with them for training trips in the good weather. Many then follow-on with the National Champs then Tour Down Under. Works reasonably, but of course, they all aim for top form during the Pro season, so not at their top for the National Champs unfortunately.

I thought i would bump this but maybe i or somebody else can start a new thread concerning the various nationals on Sunday or maybe not.

As for the British championships, former Vuelta points winner Malcom Elliot is riding aged 48. Riders such as Cavendish, Downing, Thomas, Cummings, Swift, Hunt, Kennaugh, Blythe, Lloyd, Hammond, and other domestic riders such as Newton, defending champion K House.

I'm leaning towards Kennaugh for the win at the minute..
