Current contract which expired was also an extension of the previous term, so its expiry this year does not mean it could not have been extended again. And it's clear that agreeing on an extension is always easier than a brand new contract. I'm sure the team would love to keep them, so the decision for not extending and discontinuing its association with team was Lidl's.

So while I have no evidence for my assumption, other then that it looked like someone powerful indeed did push Lefevere to correct his comments that one time, you know as little as I do about the reasoning in the background.

Nonsense. Why would you extend a contract with an existing partner if you can get a better deal with a new partner? I'd be very intrested in your evidence of Lidl terminating the contract because of Lefevere being an ***.
The only thing we know for sure is that they didn't want to to continue together. You're the one claiming that is not true.

You can't back up anything you're claiming. This is just stupid.

I'm getting slightly confused by your line of thinking, but anyway, I think we actually know a bit more:

Fact#1: term of Lidl contract expires
Fact#2: contract is not extended
Reasonable assumption#1: decision on discontinuation of partnership was made by Lidl. At least, I can't imagine the team telling Lidl "we don't need you anymore", knowing how they struggled to find new main sponsor
Reasonable assumption#2: when making a decision on a partnership, Lidl takes into account public perception of the partner and its representatives
So what's nonsensical about assuming that Lefevere's public behaviour has impact, along with other parameters, on partners's decision-making? What final weight on their decision it had, we of course can't know, but I do not understand why you call it nonsense, not mentioning stupid.

Will they be allowed those Napoleon Casino logos in French races? Is there not a ban on advertising gambling (although apparently not gambling through a lottery) on French TV, including sponsored kit?
The Napoleon logo was also on last year's kit, though less prominent.

It's a clear downgrade from this year's kit imo, at least there are no Lidl logos as those make every design worse.

JV jersey looks so ridiculous I don't even know how to take Van Aert serious in it when the men's cyclo-cross starts. Vos looks so weird in hers  The back and yellow old kit was so perfect, this just looks so weird!

Phew. He is still in his old kit :D

Lefevere was looking for more money. Lidl didn't want to sponsor more money. It's really not that deep as your theories make it seem to be.

Well of the first three WT to announce their new kits, Trek don't have a link to a shop on their website, and AG2R's has only been operative since Tuesday, so it seems only Ineos consider it to be a relevant marketing opportunity.

well traditionally cycling racing fans have been more resistant to buying into team kit to wear than fans in other sports (rule #17 ;)) and I think alot of teams are still stuck in their head with that traditional approach so never consider it as a possible commercial opportunity to exploit

Ineos do I suspect, though I cant remember how easy Sky kit was to get to begin with, because of their experience of how it took off as a thing in the UK, and they realised yes you can sell it, people will wear it, and make some money from it.

But Trek, I mean you can get their kit from the Trek race shop, but its easier from BikeO'Bello (bobshop.com), or directly from Santini, and they were advertising it before Christmas even if Trek werent.

the rest, especially in the WWT, SD Worx did sell kit direct, but it wasnt something they pushed alot, and was abit complicated outside the EU, so no idea if they will add their new kit to their shop.

and teams like Canyon SRAM have swapped kit supplier, so will have to wait and see, but even with Rapha, you got only limited subset of the team kit anyway.

I just think most teams havent really fully got the commercials of what they could do with it yet as a revenue stream, maybe theyd focus more on producing well designed jersey patterns, instead of slapping a few ad logos on stuff in whatever colour the kit sponsor pushes as "on trend" if they did.

I suppose Wout would be when it comes to CX, as he's the Belgian champion in that category, but I can't see most difference with Marianne's kit either.
I was talking generally with the JV kit.
The shoulders! They used to be black! It gave the kit some balance of sorts. Now they look more like toys escaping the toy store :tearsofjoy: I mean it's cute, but I miss the colour blocked wasps. Now they are so cute they look like candy of sorts :D
