So the Dutch take over of CNF is under way. Barrus, now Francois. While both are relatively moderate, with Dekker T at the head, surely we are not to far away, from any negative comments on Gesink being met with bans.

I would like to say it was nice knowing you guys and girls, I should be copping my ban soon for the "Is Robert Gesink soft?" thread.

Just relax.

Just some playful retaliation to a jab, and I trust ACF to read it that way. We have exchanged posts in the past, so he should have a reasonable sense of when I am serious, and when it's all mostly a bit of fun. And vice-versa.

I am totally relaxed, hence the smileys.

In general: I have been considering making any posts that are made with my moderator's hat on -the ones which really ask for certain behaviour- stand out from my "normal" posts. As I don't want people around me to suddenly feel like they need to walk on egg shells when addressing me, avoiding good natured pot shots, simply because I am also a mod here.

I would genuinely be disappointed if the vast majority of my posts stopped to be equally fair game, and people got overly cautious. I hope to see the same rules that did apply, will keep applying to my normal posts.

That dual role can be confusing enough, so I'd rather avoid any confusion by making it plain and simply to see what type of post you have been reading.

Trust me, you will know when I am not relaxed. ;)

We only need one more Mafia member on the board to have a voting block big enough to impose the special punishment for that one, without having to face amendments that go easy on the tender bits of your body.

Until then, you are safe. :D

To be honest, I thought that we had at least another Dutch moderator on here. So, he isn't that safe :p

I hope Francois makes it short, if he will ever warn me for something. :D

Dear Cobblestoned.

Youy are being warned against swearing. The reason for this is that in thread x you used an unpleasant word. The word in question was 4 letters long and began with an f. The second letter was a "u" though it is pronounced slightly differently to how you germans pronounce it. In the English language, that is to say, the language of this forum, in the word in question the letter closer resembles a german "a" or "ah" then an "u" or as we say in england "oo". The last letter was a solid k.

There are 2 conflicting theories here. THe first is that swearing should be allowed on such forums. We are all afterall posting under the cloak of anonimity and we are, most of us grown ups who can handle a rude word or 2. In my acceptance post regarding my appointment as a moderator, or as it is sometimes called administrator, i promised that i would be fair. The difference between a moderator and an administrator is small but should not be overlooked. Though the slang term "mod" short for moderator is often use, i am actually an administrator. There are varying interpretations but a common one is simply that a admin or administrator has more power to edit and delete other peoples posts. Since i have made this promise, to be a fair administrator, i do have some sympathy for those who say swearing should be allowed. Personally i think that with all such things, a degree of interpretation and self moderation should be allowed.

The second theory is that swearing stops people from enjoying the forum. Some people will supposedly be less likely to continue visiting Cycling news if they see that posters on the forum section, are allowed to get away with profanity. THe solution is therefore to keep readership high by reducing the ammount of swearing. On principle, I do not agree fully with this theory. However, I am, as i have said earlier, an administrator, and that means that my job is to enforce the rules of the forum, and not to question them. The rules themselves are created by other individuals and i do not have a say in this. The forum has a strict no swearing rule and therefore your post broke the rules and i therefore have to give you the warning.

The warning itself does not have any direct repercussions, yet, and you will not be punished for the incident in question. However it is as the title suggests, a warning. It means that you are being warned, not to engage in this kind of behaviour again.

In the future please do not post such words. There are 2 options you can take. The first, easier option, is to simply not say anything that you feel may incurr the wrath of us administrators. If you have written something, and dont feel it meets the rules, delete it. The 2nd option is to use different words. FOr example, instead of using such profanity as you did in the post in question, try to find another, also negative but less offensive adjective. For such things you can consult a thesaurus. You can buy one in many shops, including malls, supermarkets, high street shops, stationary outlets and of course book shops. You can also buy one on the internet or use an online thesaurus.

In the future please do not use such words.

Your sincerely, your admin, Francois.

postbode,

JABBERWOCKY

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Neat. Good to see you got the details right too Hitch, including editing the post, because, on reflection, one tiny wee bit wasn't quite on the nail :D

I have only been moderator with glitchy access to some key tools for a couple of days, and we have members writing pamphlets (or treaties) on proper forum behaviour already. "We" knew you lot knew full well what the the lines were here.

Amazing what the sudden looming assault of long grinding logic can accomplish.

Any thoughts on "post not poster"?

I have been a bit embarrased about my large number of posts on this forum

I justify it by pointing out that i write 2 or 3 posts where others write one. Id say about 60 % of those 3000 posts are under 10 words. Especially during the gts where i probably pointlessly comment every time someone attacks/ crashes/ gets caught/ changes a tyre etc. Then theres the cycling unrelated World cup thread where i probably gave another 500 or so posts commenting on every little event.

And my profile says June, but in actual fact id been reading the forum for months before, so id say some of my exessive posting makes up for that long dry spell.

This off season will lower that 23 post a day count and i think once the new season starts, TFF and ACF will be beating me on that front.

Francois, can you go to the road race forum where the Vegans are shamelessly baiting meat eating members of the forum and sort them out? its so unfair.

banning is too good for these people. :p

Hey congrats Francois! I've always appreciated your ability to be articulate and diplomatic (in a deeper way than than surface 'diplomacy', as that term can sometimes be a backhanded compliment) in divisive subjects, and your posting history shows that you are clearly thoughtful, and it seems like you have been thoughtful in taking on these duties as well. I can't imagine better qualities for a moderator.
