Wow... that's a dirt road?

Yes, but it's not steep and it will be smooth. I've driven it before and it had dirt potholes, I'm guessing those might be gone before the racers hit it ??

I hope Garmin does well. They've got a great team, and this is Tommy D's backyard.
Shack's got a strong team, and I hope TJVG does well.

Not really expecting much from the Schlecks, but maybe Frank will give this a go.

But after the Utah prologue, those Gobernacion guys look to be a major threat.

It does seem that the Columbian team could be a real threat...

..Wondering if now is the time to start the "real" thread on this race, ala the Tour of Utah thread with course maps and profiles and all .....

I don't think there are any good profiles for a thread! :p

I can't do this from work, but I wonder: screen captures of the profiles from the race website, and then posting them to a webhosting service, then linking to them ?

Any better ideas?

Although I twice posted links to MapmyFitness.com pages that have really detailed profiles and descriptions, I'll go ahead and post images that the official website used to have (before they went with the less helpful interactive profile/map).

Yes, there will be the same online coverage as Tour of Utah (direct link found at):

http://www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com/sites/default/files/images/page/TourTracker_race.png

I'd guess that you can access other webcasts via sportLEMON.tv or SteepHill.tv as well...

Verses will be live broadcasting every stage from 1400hrs MDT (pre-race hype and crap starting at 1330hrs), finishing between 1530hrs to 1630hrs. And it looks like NBC will be covering the entire final stage.

For what it is worth, the official website www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com, has updated the stage routes, profiles, spectator guides, and timetables that are listed here. And while all are now quite detailed, unfortunately all are PDF's.

That prologue is the opposite of Tour of UT. Those tiny little Colombian climbers are all going to lose time on that fairly non-technical descent.
It will be kind of interesting to see who wins...seems like the sprinters would have a good shot.

I was able to get images of all the profiles and stage maps and will see if I can get them uploaded somewhere to link to (probably not till tuesday), in case anyone with motivation wants to start a proper race thread....

Edit: looks like Ben beat me to it, but these ones look quite a bit different. Anyway, I guess either could be used to start a race thread, if anyone is so inclined.

I guess you didn't watch how Acevedo descended on Sunday's last stage, did you? and also how the rest of the team caught up the break away during the same downhill...

I watched and I've done that descent down American Fork Canyon...it's steep, long and turny. And a climber and good descender can certainly hold their own on that sort of thing.
The Colorado descent stage looks to me much more straightforward...not having actually ridden it, but it certainly appears that it would much more favor a heavier, more power oriented rider, who could turn over a 54x11 on that long shallow downhill through Colorado Springs. It looks to me like most riders would probably use TT bikes.

A question for all (particularly the mods). Do we want to do stage specific threads as we do for three grand tours (and the TdS, Dauphine and ToC) or one single race thread for all stages like the ToU and Eneco?

Also, those map/profiles I posted earlier are from PDF's I found on the official website two months ago. I've broken out the profiles into JPG's. These are higher rez that shows, in color-coordinated format, the pitch of the entire route. For example, Stage 4, which finishes 5 blocks from my house:D, looks like this:
