Surprised.

He was backing McQuaid a few months back. The only way I would have seen him go forward was if McQuaid couldn't get support of a national federation as I didn't think he would run against him due to him supporting McQuaid before.

Endorsed by change cycling now according to twitter. Well, hog, its either madness or genius. If he wins surely sky will simply take places 1-9 in each gt?

Thought you had me on ignore?

It will be madness if he doesn't win.

I hope he does but can't see him getting the numbers.

I am only surprised by the timing - I wasn't expecting his announcement until next week.

This is big news, it is great that someone is standing up against McQ but until he states what he plans to do about cyclings (very recent) past then there may not be much of a change.
A good start would be to pledge to restarting the independent commission and allowing them finish what they started.
Things have just got interesting, and I expect another candidate to come out soon.

Wiggins was smart to withdraw from the Tour.

Should be back for the Vuelta with full protection.

Cookson's challenge explains McQuaid's rhetoric of late in regards to Armstrong etc.

Surly a better option than McQuaid at least, good to see he got CCN's endorsement.

CCN would endorse a fish as long as it wasn't Irish or called McQuaid

CCN appears to be only Fuller now. Walsh, Kimmage and Veyer dont appear to be speaking about CCN at present.

There goes Sky's protection for the Tour.

Hein has the power to make you positive.

Foolish move.

Cookson. No chance.

I think this is return to mid-field for most of Sky's riders in 2013.

Some know Cookson is one of the executives at Team Sky, runs BC, and on the UCI's management committee. Hey Martin! Is my crackpot theory of the UCI giving Sky a free doping pass just in time for the 2012 London Games looking any better?

I wonder what's going on with the rest of the UCI's management committee.
I wonder how ASO's bid for the Tour of Britain factors into this.

All very interesting and unexpected.

“I have no problem with other candidates coming forward. It’s a democracy and everyone has that right. As long as it’s a good campaign and a clean campaign I have no problem with that,” McQuaid said when contacted by Cyclingnews on Monday afternoon.

Maybe Cookson will test positive?

Well, you know what Vaughters' said just the other day on cycling and advertising.

Replace one buffoon with the other, same old, same old.
