Brian Cookson

Ok so we get a new president but McQuuaid and his mate HV are still very much running the UCI>> Look at the losses made with the seperate company run by McQuaid promoting races in China with UCI money, which was supposed to be used for doping..

Also what did Cookson do about all the allegations from 2004 about Armstrong doping ??

Did he ring ??

Floyd -
Frankie -Betsy - Emma - Tyler ????

Good article from Inner Ring, the crux of the fight against doping comes down to one thing and one thing alone, that is hard cash to spend on anti-doping programs, and someone has to pay for it.

IMO the pro teams/pros should bear the largest burden, they should also subsidize testing on the lower levels(which I think is the case now too). The teams are the ones who bring in money, that pays the big riders big money. The most fair would perhaps be a progressive tax on the teams/riders. Those who have more money, pay more money.

But, who is going to be willing to contribute more money to a system they don't trust? Not many. Hence getting trust in the system should be priority number one.

Ah Cookson, the man who thinks that any women in a position of power in cycling slept her way there - the sport doesn't need another 'old white man' or anyone who was in any position of power during the super doping era - step forward please ms gaudry

at this point, i would welcome almost any new face that would vent the uci rooms of the verbruggen stench...

mcquaid has proven that he was determine to do whatever it takes to continue defending the disgraced and corrupted ex-prez who arguably is the biggest obstacle to the sport openly examining itself.

in that regard, the cookson's statement deserves attention,

'We must also urgently carry out a fully independent investigation into the allegations of corruption in this area which have so damaged the UCI’s reputation'.

if he is serious, i would give him the job.

I'm all for dumping Pat.

However having a BC representative as president, with the recent domination on the track, and the ties to Sky at least should be acknowledged as the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Brian needs to address this head on in his manifesto.

That and his attitude to women & the women's sport - suggest he resigns his position with sky immediately

UCI Congress (42 members)

Per Article 36 of the Constitution
7 from Africa
9 from America
9 from Asia
14 from Europe
3 from Oceania

Thank-you.

Some back room deals to be done. Numbers chasing.

Asia, Africa & America is the concern. No wonder McQuaid was talking about an African winner.

Expect to see some new GCP races in Nigera and velodromes funded in Taiwan.

Agree.
I wrote it here yesterday, if he restarts the investigation in to the UCI then that is a positive sign. Also the fact he is willing to meet and discuss with WADA.
Getting anti-doping run independently is no easy task, and as mentioned already not part of WADA remit, but I believe if both sides sat down a way forward could be found.

Cycling fans around the world should get behind Cookson. Follow him @cooksonforuci. The sport has to cut ties with old, discredited leaders.

You forget, Walsh has been assimilated

So this guy looks like a smarter version of McQuaid but with even more personal entanglements and a willingness to knuckle under to those like Vaughters who want to turn the sport into a version of Formula 1 where the desire of sponsors to push technology onto consumers overrides sporting considerations.
Hold on, what entanglements?

He is on the member of the operating board of Team Sky because of his role as Pres of BC. The rest about F1 is scaremongering.
Cookson needs to be scrutinized - what he does to make a living, what family members are in the sport, his career in BC, etc.
The makey up stuff should be left to TheHog & Benotti.

Isn't dismissing someone because they are "an old white man" sexist? ;)

It would seem an unusual thing for Cookson to say, (not suggesting he sidnt say it) because how many women are there in a "position of power" in cycling?which is the real problem.
From what I see, only Gaudry, and she is there on merit. (And I hope she does throw her hat (& matching handbag) in to the ring) :p

What's his position on the 2 most important issues cycling faces, the expansion of women's cycling and the globalization of the sport.
B, B, BMX!!! You forgot BMX.

We're going to see positive's hoggie. Positives. The truth is coming. Well done GB, well done.:D

I won't hold my breath. I didn't like what Matt Parker was inferrng.

The key to effective governorship is strong opposition. I’m not comfortable inferring that a leader would use his friends in the media to “smear” others. Especially in light of ‘cash for comments’ and the manner of which the NOFTW was brought down.

I think Matt was just joking but it was a stupid thing to write.

Fine we all want McQuaid to go. But if Cookson would pull favors like this in other situations then I'm not comfortable with it.

Perhaps it was a not-so-veiled threat that if McQuaid wants to pop a British rider/team for a positive, then they're going to unleash the media on the UCI? Probably reasonably quid-pro-quo in some ways I guess... They both have pretty powerful tools to unleash I suppose.

Indeed - Perhaps not positives though - is it a coincidence that this is just days after Wiggo decides not to ride the tour?

I do not believe in coincidences. Coincidences are myth's, just like Tyler's twin Lance's superior weight loss and pedaling efficiency and Sky's marginal gains propaganda. All are myths to disguise the truth.
