And yet he's still a 3-time GT winner. How's that even possible :confused:

What does it matter now though ? It's 2012- Not 2010. He hasn't shown same climbing skills he did when he won his GT's, did he ?

Yes, this is probably the first year where Van den Broeck has been quite competitive all year round.

He is not as good as he once was?

How can you be sure of that?

The question isnt whether Menchov will suck for no reason but rather whether, will he actually not suck for a reason.

Yeah - that reason is he's targeting the TDF, and this is the chance he's been waiting for.

Anyway, this has all been said a million times in other threads, so I'll just shut up. If someone doesn't understand a basic thing, there's no point to try and explain it

Vdb is all the bad of Andy schleck - only cares for the tour, without the good- attacks.

So i hope the others prevail. nibali is a hardcore fan's dream rider so lets hope he can bring it.

Som riders have a lower base level which they need to build up, so they focus their season solely around the Tour whilst in their other races they will not be in as good form for.
Yet other riders also base their season around the Tour but they have higher form so even if they are training in races or just riding them they can be competitive unlike the above riders.

To both comments:
Because he was worse in 2011 then he was in 2010 etc.

I have also argued this point in a lot of threads so wont comment anymore.

Ok, people think that he is not as good as he once was. Better?

2011 and 2012 up to now haven't done anything to suggest that he will be among the biggest favorites in the Tour.

VDB2 simply has the best preparation and form. Nibali had a difficult Dauphine and California, Gesink still lacks consistency this year. Jurgen also has the highest finish of these three. But at least Gesink/Nibali have won something this year , opposed to VDB2, they deserve a good tour.

The question is if Gesink really belongs here, he should be glad to ride top 20. I don't see hem perform in GT's until next season.

For Menchov,
3 GTs
2/3rd in tour 2010 off the back of a super strong 50+kmTT
climbed well at the end of the Vuelta last year, didn't attack as he was Cobo's team mate
Was solid but a little off in the Giro

Against
Didn't win the Giro and Vuelta in 2011, nor really ever look like he might.
Has been quieter, not by much, than normal for the start of 2012.

For the 3 concerned, JVDB looks good, but i think he'll try to tackle wiggins and Evans head to head, where as Nibali will try a long attack which won't net him the victory but will get rid of JVDB.
Gesink, just don't think he looks great this year.

Under normal circumstances I'm inclined towards Gesink, under the current circumstances though I'd say JvdB though I like Nibbs better as a rider. Still voted Gesink though cause he's in a perfect position to surprise some people if he has the form.

Gesink is the most talentend out of this group.
he should be the winner of this, but always something goes wrong for him.

VDB2 has the higher Tour finish, but Nibali has a GT win and 2 podiums. Some downhill finishes on mountain stages too, aren't there? I think Nibali is the most likely to deliver. Gesink - IDK whether he'll be able to perform at the Tour.

VDB2 at the moment seems to have the best form going into the tour, but I think ultimately Nibali will manage to place best of the three. Gesink doesn't seem to have the right form. His form was looking good in California but then he looked like he was struggling in stage 2 of the tour de suisse.

That's more likely due to his return from altitude one day before the race, he can't handle that very well. But the field in Suisse isn't at the same level as the Dauphiné, so even if he gets better the next days (which I think he will) we can't really gauge his form vs. the Dauphiné guys.

Talking about Evans, Wiggo or Menchov are beyond the scope of this thread...It's still can't believe why people even mention Menchov as a favorite at all.
Well there's a reason why Menchov is called the Silent Killer.

There's also a reason to why he's called the Pope. But that one I don't know :D
