Diggins is great at gliding long on her skis and shifting weight inso every step, but looking ar her uphill v2 her upper body is just all over the place, one could almost call it windmilling.

Yep, Nepryaeva talked about that recently. She said that Diggins is all over the place and she thought to herself ‘this person looks like they could fall any minute, but she’s still moving fast.’

Looks like the Austrians had great skis in the qualifier, 3 of them in the men's top 25. Vermeulen qualified, he's improving.

Sundling destroying the qualifier but now sitting in a lucky loser spot...

edit: and Sundling out. That's a head scratcher.

Even at the top of the hill in V1 her upper body is just so much 'noisier' than the other skiers; kind of suprising given her classic technique improvements that some of that core stability hasn't translated into a quieter upper body in skating. Strange; she really is all over the place. I understand some people are different biomechanically and maybe that works the best for Jessie's physiology. Hard to argue with her success though, but ouch, it's not pretty.

Amundsen down!

edit: Austrians indeed with good skis, Schumacher really looking solidly back to form.

If Svahn had to do anything else to show she was all the way back, that was it. She's looking beastly.
Good to see Dahlqvist there.

edit: Diggins takes back a bunch on her overall rivals. Really hate that pursuit tomorrow though. An individual start would be WAY better.

Watered down field and a little luck here and there doesn’t hurt
Hey, you take them where you get them! :)
Yup, for sure watered down, but still fun to see him there after a couple of tough seasons. He definitely seems solidly on the way back.

Also Amundsen fell in his quarterfinal, enabling Schumacher to move up. He was a lucky loser in the quarterfinal and a lucky loser (finished 4th in that heat) in the semifinal.

Happy for Anger getting his first podium. His family made a surprise visit yesterday so he got to share the moment with his parents, brother and girlfriend.

Also Svahn is back, I think she is actually better now than before the injury cause the competition also got tougher.

Apart from Skistad, who else is there that wasn’t there 3, 4 seasons ago? Sundling was there, Fändrich was there, the Americans were there, Dahlqvist was there, Hagström was there. On the flip side, no Falla, no Lampič, no Nepryaeva, no Stupak, no Sorina, no Nilsson, no Caldwell, no Van Der Graaff…Without Skistad the Norwegian sprinters don’t have someone that could challenge for a podium in the sprints as before.

Yeah, he was lucky that Riebli crashed, tbf.

Both true, Gus doesn't make it through if those two stay upright, but in fairness, it's not like both those guys were taken out by other skiers. Both of them went down due to their own mistakes and last time I checked, keeping the bases on the snow was part of the sport.

For me, very solid day by Gus; he's just now really starting to get back even after two very rough years, and let's also not forget he's not a specialist sprinter either. (His World Juniors Golds were a 10k classic, plus a relay). I'm hopeful he's going to be able to make some noise the second half of the season and very much looking to see how he handles the Alpe.

any idea who came up with the idea to start tomorrow's pursuit with a massive wave at 1:08/1:10? The biggest time loss was 1:22 anyway, while now this could very well result in a pretty confusing fight for the podium.

He was over raced 3 years ago. If he isn’t careful, he may be over raced again, but he’s older and hopefully learned from past mistakes.

Well, the biggest time loss was a few seconds at most, but they go all out on the time bonus BS for these sprints.

This should still be an awkward race regardless, especially on the men‘s side, with whoever of the sprinters is left to compete off the front with a few Tour favorites and then a full disorganized pack in random order just behind.

Yup. He's also said in interviews he got way too ambitious with ramping up his training hours; I hope he and his coaches learned that lesson well.

He changed teams, but i am certain it wasn’t his old team that was the reason he overtrained and over raced, he wanted to do all those races and unfortunately nobody on the USST advised him not to.

Chappaz crashed in the qualifier, so he didn’t qualify. This is one of the weaker fields at the tour that I’ve seen, and there will now be an exodus of sprinters. So there will be less than half of the field that started. And this is during a non championship season.

It has always been funny to me how sinilar the USA and the Russians are when it comes to overracing youngsters.
